- Shout out drones - dude lowered his shoulder to get down after down.
- Running game was great (against the assiest lb corps in the P4).
- And we finally did that thing where we keep calling the same play over and over again because it works.
- We've officially avoided double digit losses... can't believe we're there but at least it's not worse.
Trash season, but enjoy the highs when they happen FAM

FAM thread for every bad call by the refs!
Need about 20 threads then....and counting. Think they just threw a flag in the parking lot on the Shirtless guys for Unsportsmanlike Nipple Showing.
FAM!!!!

You take what you can get in this world.
And you get more dancing turkeys

I've been very critical of Drones but he played his f*ing heart out, FAM
Yeah, he's a heck of a competitor, just not a great quarterback.
This^^^^^
His reads are just bad. And when he gets rushed in "have to gain" situations, he throws into multiple coverage situations with a prayer, aanndd... its a pic.
Yeah, exactly. Lotta fight in him. Not a passer tho. I think, like Hooker, he'd probably do much better with different coaching. Our offense doesn't do him many favors. Proud of his moxie last night. He really wanted to win and that showed. Particularly late
I think Drones would've been a good/great college QB under Fuente.
Another way to look at it: do you think there's any qb who could come in and drastically improve this team? Haynes King, Fernando Mendoza, health John Matir... does anyone in CFB right now instantly make this team a bowl team if they replace drones? I'd argue no.
It's the wrong question, imo.
Do you think there's any OC who could come in and drastically improve this team? I think there are dozens.
I really think with different coaching these same players could be put in position to achieve bowl eligibility
Sort of agree. I think last night was the best scheme we could hope from this team. Second half kinda felt like a Tyler Bowen call.
The point is, drones is a problem, but he is hardly the problem or the biggest problem imo
Yes, this. He's not a polished passer. He has strengths and weaknesses and we don't seem to play to his strengths. We're asking him to do things that he's not great at and that hurts his confidence.
Good coaches work to the strengths of their players and ask them to do things early that they do well to build their confidence. Drones hasn't had that benefit in Blacksburg.
With better coaching I think he's the type of player that can qb a team to 6-8 wins. He won't win you championships but I think there's more juice in there than these coaches are able to squeeze
He's a JAG
A competent OL would help him immensely. That's our biggest problem.
King yes. Mendoza probably. Healthy Mateer maybe. Pavia yes. Tetairoa McMillan yes. Malik Washington who picked Maryland over us, maybe. I think there's others, I don't think it's all on scheme. Drones showed Friday what happens when a QB makes a couple accurate throws and makes the right RPO reads.
Sooo... there's a dozen-ish QBs who would be better in this system with these players around them...that's kinda my point.
Ok, your post that I replied to didn't make that point, it said that basically nobody could elevate this team because the system was bad. I feel like you've made the point that there's maybe a dozen QBs that can elevate teams before, so if that's your point I agree.
Yea my hypothesis that there's never more than 20ish QBs (in most seasons, including this one, it's half that) who are actually 'good'. After that, the next 50-75 are basically interchangeable, and will perform as well as their surrounding talent and scheme can be.
I think the talent and coaching on our team is so mid that adding a heisman candidate QB wouldn't elevate our team that much.
I think Drones would easily be a top 20 QB if Dan Mullen was calling plays with a mildly improved OL
So is Drones "good" or not? Or would he be "good" if Mullen was here?
IMO he's in that middle 50ish. IMO there's not much differentiating the 20th best QB from the 75th.
I think he'd be a lot closer to 20 than 75 lol
Ok yeah I remember you saying that all season. I strongly agree with that first point.
I don't agree with the second and third arguments. I think we'd be much more competitive with some of the Heisman candidates. I don't think Mullen or Kill could elevate Drones to top 20, although he would be improved.
More FAMs than Pry one score wins!
