I'm personally hoping it goes to Barlow

Onward and upward

Stiney's making in the neighborhood of $350K at Tech. Matthews was making about $220K. Three possibilities -

1. Either Stiney will be willing to take considerably less; or....

2. JMU will be willing to pay Stiney considerably more; or...

3. They'll meet somewhere in the middle, which will still make Stiney one of the highest paid FCS head coaches.

Personally speaking, I hope someone else gets the job. We finally have football recruiting going in high gear and Stiney's the one to thank for it. I don't want to lose that momentum.

Wait, is Stiney the one to thank?

I think the recent uptick in recruiting may have more to do with the new staffs energy and sec mentality. It's not as though tech is dominating stinesprings sweet spot, the 757.

Just my impression though, I have no idea what's really going on behind the scenes

Yes, definitely Stiney! He's responsible for implementing the current recruiting plan, to include getting CFB out on the road a heck of a lot more, and sending more than one coach at a time to see recruits. The key item is that he has EVERYONE recruiting and on the road. Plus, he's set up more junior days and had a crowd of recruits come to Tech for every home game - that certainly wasn't done in the past.

And yes, I agree, the new coaches are doing a great job on the recruiting trail. It also doesn't hurt to have three coaches on the staff (Shane, Loeffler, and Grimes) with the SEC killer mentality when it comes to recruiting. Moorehead's from the PAC 12, but I get the impression he's working just as hard or harder than the SEC guys.

Looks like Stiney does deserve more credit then

His focus on recruiting has certainly led to some significant changes, but they aren't changes that Shane or Torrian couldn't/wouldn't keep up if he was gone.

If he did leave, we probably would need to find someone with solid Virginia recruiting experience though. The three coaches from last year have done a great job at expanding our reach, but losing Newsome and Stiney in back to back years is losing some of the Commonwealth's better recruiters. We would still have Shane, Bud and Cornell to man the state, but Bud and Cornell haven't proven to be of the same quality as Stiney.

Wow, Barlow has coached under John Blake at OU, Mike Locksley at New Mexico and James Franklin at Vandy. That's three of the most ethically challenged coaches in recent memory.

Holy crap! I didn't realize that! Good pick-up!

So what you're telling me is that if he's hired, JMU will be fielding an FSU-like roster in 3 years?

Don't wet your pants we'll be fine. Let him go.

footballscoop.com is reporting Everett Withers will be the next head coach at James Madison.

See, I knew he wouldn't get hired.
