Virginia Tech signs contract to play Purdue in football: Two schools to play in 2015 and 2023 http://t.co/NZ0hsmZRWj— VT Football (@VT_Football) December 19, 2013
We filled out our last open slot in 2015. Nice Christmas present for our new President, Dr. Sands.

The only issue I have with this, Purdue isn't traveling to Blacksburg to start the series.
Yeah, yet another away game... and Purdue gets a big < fart noise > from me. What happens if they bail on the return game in Blacksburg? No doubt there is a buyout but that would be a kick in the nuts.
Gotta say it's a step up from JMU or some directional though.
I really laughed hard at this, simply because:
Purdue is a fart. You might be absolutely right unless ESPN is trying to move towards like what they do with basketball (ACC/B1G challenge) and has all but guaranteed a TV game payday.
It's fine. One more tear stricken stadium after we come to paint the town maroon and orange.
Besides, there's only one team we watch in the house, right Rudy?
and 2023 is a long gap between. Purdue is a solid OOC opponent though.
Really? They went 1-11 this year. Sure, they had some good seasons in the late 90s, but for the last 10 years they have been terrible to mediocre.
East Carolina and Marshall are much better football teams. It's not even close.
I'd rather have a home and home with an OOC school that's in an AQ conference than with a non-AQ conference school. I hate going to Conference USA schools.
Yeah that is probably the main reason they did it. The new connection because of the new president and it's still an AQ school.
I wonder if this has anything to do with Tim Sands.
It never seems like we get the front end of a home and home unless the team is on a considerably lower "tier" than us. With that time frame, it seems likely we would never see Purdue for the follow up date with the way conference schedules changes, etc
LSU came to Blacksburg first, right?
Well, technically their fans got their first
And left first, too.
Boom boom shake the room.
One of the unspoken Hokie tales. What an amazing night.
This will actually work out for me. My fiance is a Boilermaker and I've dragged her to about 15 games in Blacksburg over the past 3 years without once going to West Lafayette. Every time she suggests going to a Purdue game, I say "But...but...the Hokies are playing." Now I get to make her happy while seeing my team play...win win!
I heard this was a way to reduce Sands buyout at Purdue (joking).
This is a solid idea. We have added a game versus a Big Ten school rather than a lower-conference team to provide a slight uptick to our strength of schedule for our 2015 national championship run. My only complaint would be that we are traveling a long way on this. Hopefully the game is followed by an off week or a sub-par opponent.
Maybe they will be better in 2015 than they were this year, a year in which they finished 1-11 with lots of blowout losses.
Purdue is actually closer to VT than both BC and Miami who we played on the road, back-to-back weeks this year. So I guess it could be worse.

Interesting. Agreed that it could be worse, and I was thinking it was further than that.
But, BC and Miami are conference games we are locked into, whereas we have much more flexibility in finding a non-conference opponent. I recall that the coaches didn't like simultaneous Miami and BC away games.
