This is all of course rumor, but this morning Colin Cowherd reported he has heard rumblings Jimbo is the top target for Texas. Cowherd reporting rumblings on the USC and Washington job that were both correct, so this could be an interesting development as the college football season winds down. What are peoples thoughts on how this impacts the ACC? Is this a good hire for Texas?
Sorry for typos, this was done from my phone.

It'd be a great hire for Texas. Just not sure that Jimbo Fisher would leave FSU after rebuilding them into a fantastic team. No one really knows but Jimbo though.
Also, we've heard "rumblings" about "targets" a lot. Malzhan, Saban, James Franklin, etc. etc. etc.
Kinda of the opinion that it'll happen when it happens and everyone will move right along at that point in time. Rumors have thus far been wrong. Interesting point about Cowherd predicting the USC and UW hires though, so there may be something to that. Won't hear anything until after the NC game anyway.
Speaking of rumblings, people are saying that JMU might hold a presser on Friday announcing Stiney as their HC. Anybody else hearing this rumor?
Only on twitter from TKP writers haha.
It's not gonna be Stiney.
Just to add, I generally hate speculation, but I just found this to a direction I didn't expect to even be a possibility.
I have to disagree. I see Texas being rumored to be targeting all of the top 10 or 15 college coaches. Surprised they haven't said Les Miles or Chad Morris or someone yet.
On another note, Chad Morris may actually be a great under the radar hire. Texas would never do it, but interesting idea.
Don't see Jimbo taking the job till after the national title game(if at all), and it would be awfully risky for Texas to wait that long (without a promise from Jimbo) because what happens if other quality candidates are scooped up before Jimbo tells them even after the NCG I am staying at FSU. Because of that risk (and FSU is no slouch itself) I don't see him going to Texas (in my humble opinion).
Technically, I think he could sign a contract without making an announcement. In which case, he could wait until the MNCG before saying anything.
For all of the blue smoke Texas blows about being the top job in college football, it looks like a lateral move with more $ attached. I'd look at an offer with a very cautious eye, if I were Jimbo.
Coach speak
"I have no interest in that job" = My agent is reviewing an initial offer
"My heart is with this team" = I won't announce until the bowl season is finished
"I'm not going anywhere" = I'm waiting for the counter-offer from my current employer
Didn't Saben just negotiate a $2.5 million raise just by being in the discussion for Texas? Wonder what FSU is going to throw at Jimbo.
I have a feeling that Texas is going to cause a few coaches to get raises with minimal effort.
I realize that Texas is (arguably) the best college in America to coach football but the search for a new coach is getting a little ridiculous. Jimbo Fisher isn't going to leave FSU (but he'll use Texas' interest to get a raise from the Seminoles).
I'm watching ESPN right now and they're saying Jon Gruden is their top target. There's no way in hell he's leaving ESPN to coach Texas. What's next, "Texas has a strong interest in Bill Belichick?"
If this is the attitude they're going to have, I'm going to start using the Texas attitude for everything in my life...I need to get my tires changed, I wonder if Elon Musk is available. I'm getting a little hungry, I have strong interest in Bobby Flay cooking my dinner later tonight.
Going out on a limb here, but I imagine Coach Jimbo will get a raise this year whether Texas calls or not.
I know everybody calls the Texas job the best job, but Jimbo's got a pretty sweet gig right now. He has top flight talent flowing in every year, and he's in Florida at a traditional power in an easy conference, with a fast track to BCS/playoff contention every year.
The only reason he leaves is if it is all about the money. Texas can/will top anything FSU puts up, if they really want him.
Fair enough.
Not to mention, the in-state rivals are either maintaining mediocrity or crashing and burning, which helps even more in recruiting. Not that FSU really needs a lot of help in recruiting.
Totally agree on the Gruden angle. I don't think he wants to coach, and if he does come back, it's to the NFL.
In a lot of ways, an NFL gig is less stressful than college. You don't have to recruit, suck up to boosters, deal with NCAA rules, or babysit kids at college.
I still think it will be Jim Mora Jr with a backup plan of Dabo Swinney. Swinney would be perfect for that Longhorn Network.
If you can afford it... why not? What's wrong with trying to significantly better every aspect of your life?
Back to Texas... If they can afford the best coach in the nation, and they can offer their kids the best coaching and college experience possible, why not?
FWIW, Jimbo signed an extension right before the ACCCG
Jimbo just got a very lucrative extension to stay at FSU to the tune of $4.1M/year.
I realize that Texas could top that easily, but... still. I think he'd do well to stay away from the circus that is Texas.
The Texas HC vacancy is going to be responsible for a few coaches to leverage some raises.
Every time I here Gruden's name, I think "again?" Seems like he's the top rumored candidate on an annual basis for the last few years.
