The only thing I can think of, is that he wants to use Kiffen to get some of those USC recruits to flip and if Lane can help stay in touch with those guys and tip the scales, than good.
The last thing any coach should be saying "This is Lane Kiffen, I'm bringing him in to change some things around here"

I think what bugs me is Lane Kiffin even getting the time of day from any other coach or school at this point.
The man is a petulant asshole of a failure as a coach. The only thing he has any kind of track record of is NCAA violations and the ability to convince others that he actually knows his x's from his o's.
I mean, isn't this pretty much Lane Kiffin's career?:

the only reason why he hired him is as a recruiter hands down a great recruiter, an awful coach, but a great recruiter.

Austin would riot, there is no way.
Although, going from Raiders, to SEC also-ran, to USC to Texas would be in line with his career arc. Keep moving up, nobody look at his actual resume.
