Starting to see a lot of this from teams having disappointing seasons.

Artis is from the 757, not great. But a lot of the fan base is choosing to opt out too.

So did the fan base...
Maybe Fuente will opt out of his buyout

Maybe we could get USCe to split it with us.

with USCs propensity for hiring terrible coaches there's at least somewhat of a chance this will happen

FML. I mean I get it. Why get injured for a season that doesn't mean anything? Dammit if this just makes me wonder if we'll even have a functioning team by the time LOLUVa comes round. I don't want to gift them another win...

You are implying we have a functioning team right now.

Bummer, but can anyone really blame them at this point? I can't. To both of them: Good luck with your lives and careers going forward. Wish them the best.

What gives you the impression that they're leaving the team for good? They are opting out for the rest of this season.

Its a bit speculatative, but opting out in the middle of the year bodes very poorly for them returning to VT.

Both are 3+ yrs in the Program and have very limited roles and PT. The fact that the report specifies that they will not finish the season with the Program is also quite suggestive that there is more to this than injury or health concerns.

Oh I don't know. HokieinFLA gave much better reasons than I can. Just had a feeling that, as players who had been around for a while, if they were dropping out/resigning (what is the right phrase here?) they probably were moving on one way or the other. Especially with so many people having transferred out over the past few years and the team teetering on collapse right now. Team could bounce back and win 2 of 3 as well as a bowl game, if they are played, but just not too hopeful now.

Hoping VPI opts out of college football for the rest of this year, too

They opted out for the season but are we waiting for the other shoe to drop on the transfer portal?

I wish them good luck. I don't know if either end up in the portal though.
