So, I'm slowly going to put together a comprehensive recruiting thread for 2015 since the 2014 cycle is coming to an end.
Here's a projected two-deep for the 2015 season. Feel free to make angry comments, call me a dumbass and/or laugh the the fact that Andrew Brown and Quin Blanding will be starting their r-Fr. year under UVA's new head coach Charlie Weis. I'll make changes if it's obvious I made a mistake. I assumed no one was going to leave early for the NFL.

Comments
Quick observation: Just looking at the RB depth we'll have in 2015 (including 4-stars D.J. Reid, Marshawn Williams and possibly Drew Harris) gets me excited and/or expecting a guy like Joel Caleb to transfer.
Drew Harris is not making it to Blacksburg sad to say
I personally would love to see Caleb to turn into an h-back that is a running and receiving threat. Think percy harvin at uf
Yes, totally a threat if Lefty uses him like that. I love the idea.
and considering that Loeffler was at Florida when Harvin was there, he certainly has the know-how to pull it off.
What is keeping Caleb off the field? He seems explosive the rare chances he gets.
He is a liability in the blocking department and still hasn't learned to get out of the backfield in the short passing game. Makes it difficult to justify putting him in over the other backs that can do those basic skills for a running back. Its why the attempt to make him a wide receiver has been so costly for him.
In what way is Caleb's skill set similar to Percy Harvin's?
Edmunds year is wrong, teller will be an ot or dt, not a de
Changed.
Quick correction: In 2015, Edmunds & Caleb will be r-Jrs & JC will be a Sr.
EDIT: I see you got it.
Edit your #DBU Section to Include Rover and FS...
You forgot Holland Fischer (Safety), Motley (QB) and Greg Stroman (CB).
I think McMillian goes to DB, but who knows if we're stacked there.
Had fisher at Whip, changed him to rover...I just did a two-deep so that's why I didn't include Motley or Stroman (I had three at RB and WR only).
imo Fisher will start out at Free Safety, not Rover.
You're missing Reavis who will most likely begin his career at Rover
Also i think Javon Harrison will be at WR and not CB
I agree.
From a recent 247 Sports Article discussing the variation in rankings between different recruiting services:
Changed.
Wyatt Teller will be starting at RT.
Trey Edmunds will probably be in the NFL.
You're probably right about Edmunds but I'm going to run under the assumption that no one leaves early
I think Teller is a left tackle and McLaughlin will move to right tackle. Mitchell, Petit, and Taylor will get looks inside.
Ekanem will be playing opposite of Dadi Nicolas. Ekanem is a stud end. Nicolas plays the defensive end position.
Xavier Burke (and hopefully Ryan Izzo) will be in the tight end pipeline.
If Jefferson qualifies, there is no way they redshirt him next year. They don't have enough depth at corner.
Fisher will be a rover.
I am still hoping to see Nnadi and Walker at DT. As impressed as I was in Settle, I think he goes to Alabama (he plays a true 3-4 end and doesn't really do the kind of things that Bud Foster requires his tackles to do.)
100% guarentee that Phillips and Harrison play wide receiver, and I would not be shocked to see both beat out Knowles and Stanford. Phillips is outstanding at route running and getting seperation, while Harrison is an explosive breakaway threat (catch a 7 yard pass and break it) that they have lacked for a long time.
Any chance Fisher ends up at WHIP instead of Rover?
I was thinking Fisher was going to end up at whip so I had him there...obviously I'm going to defer to you on that though...did my best with the o-line, just holler if you want more changes made.
Also with Harrison & Phillips, I agree with you but I'm not going to put him ahead of Knowles and Stanford yet even though those kids are going to be bosses if everything breaks right for them.
WHITE WIDE RECEIVER?

I dont know French. Comparing Coale to Don Hutson gets the Packers fan in me fired up. But the Hokies fan in me screams THIS IS AWESOME! So much inner conflict...
I'm a Hokie before I'm a packer. Therefor, I decided this was awesome.
Updated dline projections with news that corey marshall is redshirting this year.
Move Alston Smith to OL and add this Kalvin Cline kid.....he might stick....
247 article on 2015 Stonewall Jackson DT Tim Settle.
The highlights [don't sound promising for us, but there is still plenty of time]:
Let's hope Stroman can reel him in.
Javon Harrison did take a visit to florida. I don't know what that could mean. hopefully its nothing
Izzo committed to florida state
Made some changes- move Ford to starting QB, Alston Smith to offense, added Kalvin Cline
4-star LB Ricky DeBerry will be in Blacksburg for VT-UMD.
Why are we not recruiting this kid harder? St. Chris is a great school in a good area of Richmond. Throw Bud Foster on him...
We're trying to recruit the guy, not kill him.
Next thing this guy is going to want us to throw Sam Rogers at him....
Before you know it this starts happening.
We are. After the Ga Tech game both Big and Little Beamer flew into Richmond to watch the St. Chris vs Benedictine game that Saturday
Interested to see if this announcement to play the Vols at Bristol helps recruiting?
Sure can't hurt. The Bristol game will be the Lollapalooza of college FB for years to come. Bruton(sp?) is going to make a mint.
not only that, it might also help keep players like Fuller and Facyson here for their senior year. I mean its going to be a spectacle, something players can tell their kids one day "I played in that game." I know I'll be saying I was at the game
I just saw the linebacker corp for 2015, and depending on how good RVD actually plays... that's exciting.
I have a lot of belief in DVD and Deon Clarke. Those two guys just seem to make plays.
Plus, Fuller and Facyson could both still be in town...
fuller and facyson will have to be in town they have to be in college for atleast 3 years
They could jump to the NFL that spring after playing in the 2013, 2014 and 2015 seasons. 2016 would be their senior season.
From 247 sports (via B/R) in reference to recruits. Hopefully this will change as they continue to lose.
Mike London and the Cavaliers are off to a 2-3 (0-1 ACC) start so far this season and coming off a 48-27 loss at home to Ball State.
Despite the struggles on the field, at this point, nobody is thought to be wavering from their pledge
http://bleacherreport.com/tb/dbsZk?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=news...
Oh, I really just can't tell you how much I look forward to a potential trolling of the Sabre if Duke pulls it out this weekend.
Please LOLUVA, play this song when you run out on the field or for first downs or when the Jefferson wings dance.
had to do it
Lol
I doubt if their top verbals say anything to anyone publicly, but I bet they're listening to other programs a lot more than they were. The wheels are coming off the Hoobus, and they're coming off fast. Just look at their remaining schedule - not too many winners in that bunch, if any at all -
http://espn.go.com/college-football/team/_/id/258/virginia-cavaliers
Agreed. They are only favored by 3 over Duke. A Duke loss will instill sheer panic (and so it should), and could pave the way for them to lose out.
Well since 2008 they usually lose to duke...
Agreed.
A lot of 2015 recruits that were considered UVA leans are slowly becoming more interested in Tech like Settle, Deberry etc.
Stupid question: what are SE and F listed on offense? I'm assuming some crazy names for receivers?
Split End and Flanker.
Danke.
Using the VT UT game as part of recruiting is really going to do wonders.
i love that they're already using the battle at bristol to recruit
This should be everywhere for recruiting purposes.
That's awesome... Good to see some smarts from the coaches on the recruiting trail.
whose twitter is that?
Trevion Armstrong
this is great, and Tennessee's recruiting has picked up considerably as well this year.
but for the love of everything Hokie, who is the graphic designer for the athletics dept. ? Tech does have a major for visual communications!
Has anyone heard on Nnadi's timeline for a commit? Will be interesting to see how the next 7 weeks play out, and if big victories for VA Tech translate into commitments from big fish like Derrick.
He's going to take some officials and most likely announce this winter/closer to signing day.
I heard somewhere that Tim Settle will be visiting for the Duke game.
wow. that would be 2 visits in four weeks since he was here for UNC
Anyone know if Brandon Lee is still coming down for the Duke game?
yes.
Does anybody know where we stand with 2014 Wide Receiver Johnathan Duhart? I was at the game tonight at Manchester high school (my alma mater) in Midlothian, VA, and he looked like the best player on the field. Played both sides of the ball. Had a very nice 30 yard catch in traffic where he Mossed two defenders on an under thrown ball. Caught a fad ball in the endzone that was up for grabs for a touchdown. Recovered a fumble. One play on defense he literally ripped the ball out of the running backs hand for a takeaway. Had a Reggie Bush esque play where he reversed his run and then cut it back juking multiple defenders. He was all over the field. I really hope there is someway we can get him to be a Hokie. Hopefully Shane has been in contact with him.
according to 247 sports we haven't offered him
updated to include marcus lewis
YOU ARE A BRO. OR A GIRL BRO, AKA A BRO.
updated to include Michael Barnett
updated to include ashton white, moved hodges to TE, added Durkin and Motley to QB depth chart
Jerome Wright at FB?
I feel like Marshawn and Shai are also worth adding
I'm confused. They are in 2014 no?
I think he's talking about adding them to the 2-deep depth chart for the 2015 season in the original post.
updated
Apparently we've offered Centreville HS RB/S AJ Turner. I'm surprised that no one's been talking about him.
Source: his family (specifically I'm friends with his dad on facebook)
Are we recruiting AJs now? It'll never be the Fullers but it could be something...
PROPHECY: THE NEXT FULLER (THERE WILL BE ANOTHER FULLER) WILL BE NAME ADREAN JAMARCUS FULLER. HE WILL GO BY AJ. HE WILL BE KNOWN AS AJ FULLER.
#ALLTHEFULLERS #ANYFULLER4QB #AJ4QB
Could this be... the fifth Fuller???
The Fifth Fuller is not an AJ.
Just for fun, here are the 60 (!!!!) offers 247Sports is listing on their site for 2015 -
http://virginiatech.247sports.com/Season/2015-Football/Offers
It's amazing how our recruiting has been totally revamped and jump-started - we have never seen 60 offers this quickly while we're still in our current year recruiting cycle.
You know the new coaches are less than stoked about the current talent level in the program when they go out and recruit an entire starting lineup in their first year. Time to start filling out the 2016 two-deep.
I wouldn't say they're "less than stoked". We have two future NFL players at cornerbacks for the next 2-3 years and they're aggressively recruiting cornerbacks in this cycle. I think they're just covering their bases.
Offense, my friend. Offense. Look where the new coaches are ;)
But yes, I see what you mean. 2 stud corners are great, but having quality depth in the pipeline ain't no bad thing.
True freshman walkon starters this season...nuf said
Did you notice the DT rankings? Can you imagine pulling in Settle, Tuttle, AND McLean? They are all listed as the #1 at their position in their respective states. If they can pull that off (or even 2 of the 3) coupled with Walker and (hopefully) Nnadi that's as talented a 2 deep at DT that you can get.
Would be awesome but not gonna happen. Looking at the list of players we have offers to is exciting, but there are a TON of guys on there that won't even consider us.
Probably not, but they were all listed as at least "Warm" on there. A Hokie can dream, can't he?
Is this gonna be like how Park and Cornwell wouldn't consider us? Or how Durkin wouldn't consider us? Or Harrison or Ford or Nnadi wouldn't consider us? No, we won't land the elite recruits every time, but we definitely have the ability to pull a few of them from the bigger programs, and we definitely are a program that they'll legitimately consider.
Ricky Walker will figure in to the DT rotation!!
I saw a guy I swear was Shane B. in Richmond on Friday night. I didn't bother him, he was in conversation with a gentleman close to his age and build. It was in a social setting.
I was wondering if it might have been a fellow coach. I did not recognize him.
Go guys, the recruiting effort is paying off.
He was at the VT - VCU game in Richmond last night so it was probably him.

He's probably going to Stanford
You aren't too far off your recruitment so far! Good chance that when it's all said and done we could land at least one if not more in each position that you listed.
Would love to see this topic updated eventually or another one to see how we currently stand at each position.
Updated to include Kris Hartley, Cequan Jefferson not coming.
What happened with Cequan Jefferson?
http://www.thekeyplay.com/content/2014/january/5/cequan-jefferson
Did anyone else just see 2015 ATH Jordan Adams just tell CJ on Twitter "I'm coming" in reply to a tech poster?
In the midst of attrition, and non-qualifiers, I have lost track of our available schollies.
Can anyone help a Hokie out?
Might be a nice addition to the OP, along with all the targets.
For just available scholarships Bitter gives a run down after every new commit so you could find on his blog. The key is how the numbers game gets worked. Who counts on this year by coming in early. Who goes on next year. Any grayshirts (haven't heard of any)? Anyone, like Harley, leaving? I think that's harder to pin down in terms of numbers.
Yeah -- that's what I was hoping some genius here could help out with. *
I know we can't nail it down exactly, but an educated guess of that number to use when looking at the remaining targets would be a nice feature.
* And by genius, I mean someone giving a number that at least appears to be based in rational thought. I'd also accept the ravings of an idiot savant, or pulling a number out of a hat but delivered w/ purty words.
Oh in that case:
If X is Available Scholarships, and Y are Schollies that are flexible (grays, players leaving, early enrollment, magic, etc), whereby Z is fan reaction and P is the amount that Beamer REALLY wants them.... then... hold on let me calculate
the answer is 50.
As Mason says below. It all works out.
You are amazing! This is how I now picture you!
So, even with my inferior math, I calculate we can take on 2 more DTs, another OL, 2 DBs, 4 RBs, and a 16-head team of Horses on a Treadmill.
Edited to add: After a haul like that, this is how I picture our games to go against teams like the 'jackets:
A little more blush and that's me picture perfect.
See. Who said math was hard? I just made it my beezatch
First I started with this
and then I ended with this
Ok, Ok... Stop. I can't stand the pressure of receiving undeserved legs. I admit it.... I cheated. I used my calculator.
But can you blame me? I do live in China after all
Roger Chang...anyone?
Truly the Greatest American Hero
From time to time there are VT related functions here... very few unfortunately... but sometimes new students going to attend VT are there asking all sorts of questions. Prof Chang has been mentioned as someone they should seek out if they need help. Never met the guy myself but he seems quite the educator.
Python upvote!
I always just assume that the coaches will make the numbers work, one way or another.
I can't believe that if a recruit wanted to come to Blacksburg that the coaches thought would help the team, they'd let something as silly as scholarship limits prevent that from happening :)
Based on the following link:
http://www.gobblercountry.com/pages/2014-virginia-tech-football-scholars...
We'll have 82 (# of scholarships given) - 14 (# of seniors graduating) - 2 (Kris Harley leaving, Cequan Jefferson not coming) = 66 scholarships already spoken for...19 available to give to 26 guys coming in (including the prep school guys).
Jefferson enrolling/not enrolling has not been confirmed yet, so could be 18 available. I think you'll see some attrition with a few players not getting scholarship renewed.
Also possible that McCray, Maddy, and Marshall will leave. McCray due to graduation, Maddy to NFL, and just rumors right now about Marshall.
this is for 2014 btw
Forgot losing one from K.
Made a mistake and had Nigel Williams listed twice in the defensive tackle rotation... and that made me realize how important Derrick Nnadi is to Virginia Tech football.
Sobzac
The defensive 2 deep looks like it could also be the 2014 season if we loose a couple to the NFL. I also think DVD is more of a MLB, with Clarke a Backer.
Wasn't Poindexter Settle's main recruiter at UVA? If he was then that greatly higher's Tech chances of landing him.
Fighting.... pedantic... urges....
2014 IS OVER. STARTING TALKING ABOUT 2015 #TIMSETTLEFORHEISMAN!!!!
Might want to switch up Javon Harrison for Isaiah Ford.
updated to include the rock
updated to include michael brewer, i changed the offer section so it just links to the 247 website (figured that would makes things a lot easier)
Ashton white decommitted
This could be a very long recruiting season.
What!? When? How & why???
Also, where
Texted Evan Watkins that he did and why he did.
its all over the paid sites
http://www.elevenwarriors.com/forum/ohio-state-recruiting/2014/03/34131/...
moved Corey Marshall to DT per Bitter's article...man that's a game changer
Letter from Coach Wiles to Mook Reynolds
The word "You" is in there twice (three if you count You're)!
Take that Mike London.
Thank God he used correct grammar...Coaches should start sending recruits a live turkey, bet that'll get on twitter.
I don't know, seems a little too much like this:
Can someone create a VT or Hokie-bird emoticon (assuming that's what those things are called) and send it to the recruits so they don't have to put that damn chicken head in their tweets? Or does the Twittle not work like that?
SIR - You have Jerome Wright as a R-Soph. Unless he redshirts next year, I believe he will be a Jr. just like Rogers.
Rogers is a Soph.
Edit: Nevermind, I forgot this is the 2015 chart...
Both Wright and Rogers are going to be True Sophomores next year. Wright signed in 2012 but didn't enroll until January of 2013 so last year was his first season playing. Rogers walked on as a Freshman last year as well.
EDIT: Sorry, since it's been so long that this thread has been alive, I forgot that the depth chart and years listed would be for the Fall of 2015 season. Leg for you
One other note.....
There is no mention of Anthony Shegog. That kid is a baller and will be in the 2-deep at Rover or ??. Maybe that allows Holland Fisher to slide over to ILB per French's post today???
Messed around with the DL so Vinny Mihota is now a DT
Decided to bump this since we are starting to get some new commits for this class.
Thanks for that...updated the commit list
As mentioned above (about 1/2 a year ago), I have since obtained an undisclosed user ID on the Sabre:
Troll la loll la loll
Thats a wonderful song...I need to get that as my ringtone.
There's an interesting name. You think they found Quandeski in a Baby Name Book?
maybe they asked Key and Peele for name ideas. I like A Aron insead of Aaoron and Jay-quelin instead of Jacqueline
If I recall, reavis was working on him a bunch.
Guess someone has to inform this guy that Armstrong transferred to Manchester a week or two ago.
I think Armstrong is transfering to Manchester. I believe he was at Matoaca last fall when Reavis played against him.
Ah you're right, I meant to say a week or two ago.

Well, Josh Sweat is on twitter (for real now) and seems to be checking constantly which fanbase follows him the most. So far it seems to be all Kentucky and Tennessee fans. I'm not saying that you should tweet at him or anything (I think fans tweeting at recruits is kinda weird) but a simple little follow couldn't hurt.
My general rules are:
1) Following recruits = OK
2) Congratulating recruits on choosing VT = OK
3) Wishing them success if they didn't choose VT = OK
4) Being creepy = Not OK
5) Shittalking them or other fans = Not OK
Agreed. I personally only follow a select few as well. Some people are obsessed with constantly tweeting at recruits almost begging them to choose their school which creeps me out a little.
Not sure if this had been posted elsewhere, but might be worth noting:
All signs point to orange sherbet.
Josh Sweat to take an OV? If so than that makes 3 5* recruits scheduled to take an official visit to Blacksburg this fall along with Kevin Toliver II and Jalen Dalton.
That is correct
DT target Aaron Crawford just committed to UNC.
Rumors that Kevin Asante is back?
Deshawn McClease tweet. Interesting enough Josh Sweat plans to enroll early with wherever he decides to go as well, and if they were to enroll early and go to the same school it would be VT unless McClease gets a bunch of the same offers as Sweat does right now (extremely unlikely.)
Landing Clelin Ferrell or not will tell us just how good of recruiter Shane is. This is gonna be tough.
Edited to add Carson Lyndon.
Clelin Ferrell is expected to commit to Clemson on Wednesday. Sigh.
Starting to feel like this class will be a disappointment. Say what you want optimists, but there once again is a ton of in state talent headed elsewhere.
Updated to include new recruits and added a little section tracking scholarships by position so people can clearly see positions of need in this class' cycle (*cough* DE *cough*) #WeLoveYouJoshSweat
I believe Sam Rogers is a true Sophomore. Should he count as an underclassmen?
Rogers will be a junior in 2015
Sorry about that. I really need to learn how to read someday...

Whats the deal with Mook Reynolds visiting Tennessee and Michigan? Was this always in the plan for him? Gets me nervous. SEC schools have no morals when it comes to recruiting
It's been known since he has committed that he would visit other schools although many have speculated that he may be just visiting to take a free vacation and some even claim that he has been actually trying to recruit kids to VT on these visits. I'm not too worried as of now.
With today's news about Big Lu, it now looks like VT can expect to have 8 (9 depending on who finishes this year at Mike LB) returning starters on defense with plenty of reps going to most of their backups. Bonner and Jarrett will be the only expected departures. The Safeties in waiting look very promising, however.
Well, we got Adonis:
I just saw that North Carolina has fired their Defensive Coordinator. I wonder if that will have any effect on Jalen Dalton's commitment?
I hope so but I highly doubt it. Fedora was the guy that made the push to bring him in
It would be so awesome if Dalton dropped his commitment and switched to VT. Sweat takes notice and leaves Jameis and Jimbo waiting in the seafood line of the Tallahassee Publix to come play with him.
*wakes up from pipe dream*
Ha god that'd be fantastic. Dalton's not leaving UNC though.
I have seen crazier things happen. Just think about it................ Even though Fedora made the push, he has no idea what coach they are bringing in. It may be a person that does not appeal to Dalton and he may start to think about BF and our defense and the connections he has here. Im just sayin!!!
In case someone wants a source..................... http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/eye-on-college-football/2488088...
Lawrence Cager 4* Receiver from Maryland who was at VT for an official visit last weekend has cancelled a Notre Dame official visit for this upcoming weekend.
anOSU, Alabama, and ND seem to be the big 3 players for him.
ND still a big player with him cancelling his official visit?
I would say yes. I also read that Coach Meyer had an in home this week and told him that spots in their class are filling up quick so he may want to make his decision sooner rather than later. Cager wants to announce at the Army All American game, but said that he would give a "silent" decision to the coaches if he had to.
All in all, you can't count Notre Dame out. There could be plenty of reasons that he's not visiting this weekend.
