I was reviewing our Recruiting class and couldn't stop smiling. We have such a solid class and when it's all said and done, we could have 29 kids in this class including Nine 4* recruits. It appears that having Steinspring as the recruiting coordinator has really done well for VT. I wanted to check and see if anyone knew if we had enough space for all these kids. Im thinking we will have 29-30 kids in this class and did not know if anyone was headed to FUMA? I hope everyone is having a wonderful Christmas, I'm thinking this win over UCLA will do wonders for recruiting.

I will personally let you know that most of the guys we got this yr had nothing to do with stinespring altho he is a very good recruiter. Lots of these recruits came from Grimes, SL, Foster, and Moorehead. Moorehead has done an amazing job with some of the top recruits we have. They relate to him very well. Shane is also a good recruiter as well.
And why should I take your personal statement for anything worthwhile?
Do you have credentials or authority that I don't know about?
It just seems kind of rough to straight downplay our new recruiting coordinators role in the new success of our recruiting efforts
I dont need credentials. Im susbscribed to rivals. They tell you mostly what coaches were responsible in the articles. Obviously i cant sit here and post that stuff on here or ill lose my subscription. But like i said stinespring is a very good recruitor but most of the top kids we got this yr really didnt have to do with stinespring. The new coaches have come in here and really spread the recruiting area out and have done a wonderful job developing relationships with the recruits
As the Recruiting Coordinator, Stiney is the guy most responsible for selling CFB on the recruiting system we implemented this year. Yes, ALL of the other coaches were allies in helping to sell the system to CFB, something Recruiting Coordinators in the past have not enjoyed, but it was sold and Stiney hit the ground running. I've personally never seen Tech's recruiting activities as massively active as they've been this year. Not only are we still in high gear with more than a month to go before Signing Day, we have also extended 60+ offers to 2015 recruits, getting verbals from two so far.
The new system consists of EVERY coach recruiting hard, more than one coach visiting each recruit, 4+ junior days, tons of recruits (and sometimes their parents) being present at EVERY home game, and CFB making personal appearances at the games of top recruits. Stiney's name isn't listed as primary or secondary recruiter on every recruit, but you can bet they know who he is, and so do their parents.
If you don't think being the Recruiting Coordinator doesn't take a TON of work, then I don't know what to tell you.
Great post^ Only disagreement I have is that you say stiney is the guy most responsible when he isn't. Each guy is responsible for different areas or regions. New coaches are going to new areas we never recruited before. If stiney was recruiting coord then how come we didn't change up til this yr? Makes zero sense. Everyone knows stiney is the king of the 757. We have expanded our recruiting to a whole new level with the new coaches and its paying off huge dividends for us. We are in on SO MANY guys for 2015. This class is gonna be great but the 2015 class could even surpass what we are doing this yr.
But, that is like saying I'm not responsible for the improvement of the beer at the brewery because I'm not the guy that actually brewed most of them.
A good manager delegates and trains his guys on the job. His guys are assigned areas and all activities coordinated from somewhere.
Like I just said, if stinespring was the Recruiting coord then how come we didn't start recruiting other areas til this yr. And if that is the case. Its still the new coaches that are getting in with the kids and developing relationships. So you can say sure he delegated, but he didn't get them there. That was the coaches job and the bonds they made with the players. And im sure stiney didn't train guys how to recruit. Either you have the knack for talking to kids or ya dont
This is Stiney's first year as the RC, taking over for Cav. I understand where you are coming from in giving the individual coaches credit, but BS had begun to implement a system that greatly expands and re-shuffles recruiting areas (some of which are products of suggestions by the new coaches). I don't quite understand why you are seemingly against giving Stiney any credit... The inroads he has helped create over the years are helping new coaches (unfamiliar with the territory) like Coach Morehead land recruits.
Im not against him at all. I think hes a very good recruitor like i said. Hes paved ways in the 757. Just saying that all of our top recruits this yr or most of them have came from Moorehead, SL, and grimes. TG has always done well with dbs. I jus want the new regime here to get the credit they deserve
That's true, those guys are successfully recruiting the players. Stinespring is the lead recruiter on a few as well, but more importantly he is orchestrating the recruiting effort, putting Grimes, Gray, Moorehead, S. Beamer, Loeffler in a position to be successful when recruiting prospects.
The shift in our recruiting strategy implemented last winter has been pretty dramatic when compared to years past, that is due to a couple key factors IMO.
1) Stinespring being RC and
2) certain coaches who favored the previous methods no longer being on staff who were replaced with coaches with experience recruiting for a top SEC program
It is Stiney's first year as coordinator. Loeffler, Grimes and Moorehead (as well as holdovers like Shane, Stiney, and Gray and even Wiles) are killing it on the recruiting trail and deserve tons of credit. Stiney deserves tons of credit for re-framing VTs overall strategy including but not limited to more undergrad days, getting the position coaches and coordinators more in touch with their own recruits, staying on recruits even if they are committed elsewhere, expanding to new areas, etc. For example, handing O'Cain's old area to Loeffler wouldn't have gotten us commits from Ford or Durkin. So Lefty did the heavy lifting on those two but Stiney put him in position to do it. And getting us as far along as we are on 2015 and 2016 is largely due to Stiney. Recruiting needs to be a team effort and at VT it has finally become a team effort.
It's true. Stinespring taught Grimes, Loeffler, Moorehead, and Shane, all of their interpersonal skills which they used to establish a rapport with the recruits. They would have failed without Stinespring. In fact, Stinespring probably had them all wear earpieces while they were talking to the recruits while he was in another room telling them exactly what to say. We should all give more credit to Stinespring for the tremendous recruiting success on the offensive side of the ball over the years.
I understand that is sarcasm but, you cannot underestimate coaching and directing individuals that report to you in their duties.
Otherwise, why have a coaches or supervisors.
I need to hit your brewery up sometime soon. Are you guys malt or hop focused?
rivals? they aren't the same as they were 2 yrs ago.
Rivals is most consistant. 247 also has the recruiters who recruited each commitment tech has received also for those of you who use that
VT rivals took a real beating after 247 poached their no. 1 hokies source.
that said, stiney did make some changes on how/who recruited where. it's gonna take some time to get back right with the 757, however.
newsome hurt us bad his last 2 yrs there and this yr as well.
And yet all the media folks who have covered Curt Newsome to EHC are calling it a great hire. #SLAP
Stiney is in fact the RC and I didn't even know that, but like I said I cant give him credit for the arm work that SL, Grimes, and morehead are doing this yr. But he does recruit the 757 area well. That's his spot. I cant believe were pulling recruits out of PA, Ohio, and DC. Not usually our areas
you should ask for a rebate on your Rivals subscription. Merry Christmas! ~8)
good time in recruiting when guys like us are having semi-heated arguments
of who is responsible for KICKING ASS.
Share the Love!- the formula is working - they all rock!!!
HAHA true!
Not really trying to defend stinespring here, but isn't this his first year as recruiting coordinator? That would make the argument that our poor recruiting in previous years was his responsibility wrong. That being said, I think the new coaches are terrific in their own right. If stinespring left I don't think there would be a notable drop off in recruiting, but as long as he's coordinating I have no problem giving him a piece of the credit pie. Or cake, whichever he prefers.
This thread is making my head hurt
no kidding i thought there was going to be some kind of news and update on recruiting and now its driving me to open another beer
Can't we just agree that they're all kicking ass?
yes yes we can lol I just wanted to make sure the new hires was getting there credit and not all stiney. Either way they are working together and they are doing a wonderful job
As far as I can tell this thread was supposed to somehow talk about Nnadi and Minor yet all I see is good ol' Stiney.
Simmer down hot rods.
PS: this thread hasn't really talked about Minor or Nnadi at all
I want my two minutes back.
Let's just drop the Stiney constant battle.
Anyway, we have #17 class supposedly, and with Minor and Nnadi, that will jump.
I read in another thread that we had a lot of kids from last year not count in 2013, rather 2012. Think there was mention that early enrollees count the previous year. So Ford, Shai, and some others won't hit us. There is some speculation of attrition and we already have heard of some kids leaving early for one reason or another.
I'm sure this will work out. Love the plan to bring in the kids the coaches want. 2015 class is looking promising as well.
This thread is a waste... Merry Christmas
With so many guys committing this class, are we running the risk of losing some of the guys that aren't as heralded? I think a guy like Steve Sobczak could decommit if both Nnadi and Walker are coming here.
If they have the Hokie mentality, I think no. Meaning they should love the challenge to get their playing time.
Also, never know if they will be playing the positions we assume.
My dad and I were talking about the whole switching positions in football (Tebow and Logan comparison). One thing he said that stuck with me, "depends on how much you love the game". It's true, getting a chance to play at a top school and contribute to something that is special feels good no matter what position.
I don't see Sobczak decommitting being that we are his only major offer.
He could go back to JMU. May not be major, but it's playing time.
Marshawn, Ford, and Shai are enrolling in January. Not exactly how the draft classes thing works tho. They may count on last yrs class. All I know is we have room for a couple more
Now that I think of it, I do know there is a few guys who may have to prep like Taylor, and Kendrick Holland. And I know there is some that will grayshirt. Plus like has been mentioned before about shai, ford, and Williams may count towards last yr by enrolling early
I think we're doing just about as well as we can within our current limitations. We're evaluating and offering more 4-5 stars than we ever have.
To reach the next level we'd have to go the Bama route and hire a staff of talent evaluation experts to scour a larger region than we currently target.
Any one else see on twitter that Nnadi will take his last official to LolUVA at the end of january? Thoughts?
I think Nnadi pulls London to the side in his office (or the "Time Cop Cave" as I believe he calls it) to try to let him down easy about how Nnadi wants to be a Hokie. He tells London all about #DecadeofDominance and Time Cop is inevitably very upset, throwing all of his saved up "YOU" letters like so:
