And the players got us within striking distance, but because of the assumption that they wouldn't be able to, there wasn't even time to run it a couple more times.
Really proud of the effort the team is showing. As usual, missed opportunities and dumb coaching holding us back. Hoping we can keep the effort and intensity in the 2nd half. I've been a big supporter of Fuente over the years, but despite how the guys played in the first half, the play calling was bad. It's been bad. We CAN score points. We can score a LOT of points because we have some talent on the roster (this year anyway). But when I see the way the games are getting called and Fuente was running out the clock at the end of the first half and didn't give the guys the chance to score because of how much time he burned, that's just bad coaching. Repeatedly running the ball on 3rd downs (when that's what we do and I'm pretty sure every DC out there knows it), that's bad coaching. Recruiting poorly isn't changed by how the guys played in the first half of this game, and has been poor for a couple years now. It's time to move on.

The defense has had some break downs but has played well at times. Before BB got hurt, the offense seemed to be clicking enough to keep us in the game. When you are down to your 4th string quarterback, you cannot expect great things.

We are so undisciplined. We came into a big game where we needed to play controlled and not make mistakes and we have made ALL the mistakes.
It literally happens with every big game we have played under Fuente, starting with Bristol. It's a trend, and it's so consistent that it has to be a product of coaching.

Ive been numb to this team all season but this is the first game that while I didn't expect us to win by any means, it upset me to see us used as a doormat. This program used to have so much tradition and high expectations of winning and in a few short years it's all gone. It's so disheartening to see how far we've fallen because of the leadership in the program

Was he hurt after the first drive? That looked like concussion symptoms to my (admittedly untrained) eye but I've seen a buddy do that. If he was concussed what in the ever loving fuck was he doing back on the field?

I'm for a change from Fuente, but there is zero legit evidence he would ever put a kid in danger that shouldn't be in the game. To suggest that isn't fair or accurate.
The other weird thing about it was that no trainers or medics came over to examine him. He was clearly not right.
Oh, well. Wish we hadn't shot ourselves in the foot so much, but 31-10 before garbage time is pretty respectable against Dabo's menagerie of genetic freaks.
I'm sad the state of the program is to where it is good to play respectable in a loss to a visiting team. Not, we gave it a go, but we were dog shit before, expected to lose at home and it was fully accepted days before the game.
This game was 17-10 at half, when Fu used his "clock management magical at the end of the half. Clemson scored to go up 2-scores with 4:45 left in the 3Q. Then the team fell apart and the coaching got "usual". Our D play excellent. O was inconsistent and inept at times. Coupe of good drives or even scores in the late 1H or early 2H would have changed the feel of this game.

But seriously this is why he is a terrible coach. When we lose he's baffled. Good coaches know why they lost and work to correct it.

not too disappointed. i thought the coaches had a pretty good game plan, and defense did great in the first half. too many mistakes, those turnovers are killer. if hooker was in peak condition, and tre played, it is likely a pretty good game.
not sure what was going on with hooker. i doubt we will ever get all the details unless hooker himself explains.
i thought marco lee looked pretty good, and knox kadum has his moments as well, considering he probably gets very little reps in practice.

To be completely fair, a portion of what Beamer built was undone by Beamer and his staff post the 1999 NC season. Fuente inherited a bunny slope coming in, but has turned it into a black diamond slope.
