Per Bitter, Vegas opens us up as favorites against UVA. Really hard to believe since we dont know if HH, BB, or KK will be behind center.
#Hokies open as a 3-point favorite against UVa. (I'm just the messenger, people.) https://t.co/vMF4pxMZzV— Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) December 6, 2020

FFS. Not again.
Someone in Vegas is clearly on the take...
I hope they're right, but it feels so wrong...
I WANT OUR CUP BACK!
Dejavu?
...all over again
is Vegas trolling us?
Like, seriously? What have we shown since Wake that we deserve to be favored in any of our games?
We showed the first half against Clemson.?!?.!.? (Sorry for the punctuation - wasn't sure if that should be a statement , exclamation, or more of a question. Feels more like a dejected sigh - what's the punctuation for that?)
yeah and then we followed it up with the second half against Clemson. So you could argue our defense stepped up and had a great half. The offense didn't do anything to take advantage. Or you could argue Clemson was sleep walking in the first half and turned it up a notch in the second half. Either way, we managed a whopping 10 points in 60 minutes. With how porous our defense has proven to be this season I don't see how we could reasonably be favored
Don't get me wrong, I'm not making any great case for us. Just what appears to have been a bright light since Wake. But if cold slows us down, I don't know what to say about that either. Or that was just another excuse. I just want the cup back.
My ideal ending to this season is a 14-13 win over UVA and a new head coach by Christmas
I'd take 7-6 win also, but I'm right there with ya.
My hope is that we're up 7-3 going into half...then after the break UVA scores a quick TD on special teams or something to make it 10-7 and then after an otherwise boring 3rd quarter they get a FG to open the 4th Q to take a 13-7 lead. We threaten them with a decent drive that ends after some stupid penalties put us right at the edge of FG range. We kick the FG but miss. UVa, dumbly, throws a pick-6 as they try to put the game out of reach late. We hang on defensively to win 14-13. Defense looks fair and the offense stinks it up but the Cup comes back to it's rightful home all the same
to be a recovering pessimist, that sure is an optimistic ending to the game. Do you wish for the Cup to come back half full or half empty?
6-3 VT in double OT would suit me...no way in hell that happens though. Any VT win will suffice
haha...it's what I hope for...not what I expect to happen. There is a difference
Just reading this gives me anxiety.
I dont see how we win unless we are able to put up 28+ in the first half AND keep them under 10. We are not a 2nd half team by any stretch, and it looks like we're in for a cold a rainy night on Saturday which means lost footing, dropped passes, and a slippery ball (someone give our equipment managers a heads-up that we're going to need jackets and heaters on the sideline please). Fortunately both teams need to play under the conditions, but UVA looks like they have taken care of the football for the most part and I dont see us creating many turnovers without a bit of luck involved.
My ideal ending to this season is a 222-0 win over UVA and a new head coach by Christmas
Unfortunately I don't think you can have both outcomes.... If we get the big win it probably saves CJF...... IMO...
My guess would be that it does not matter and the decision has already been made. If he is gone, he is gone even if we crush the Hoos 45-3. If he stays, he stays even if we lose 45-3. Always possible that something truly dramatic and mind-blowing happens, like he physically attacks and chokes a lady GA on the sidelines, but my guess is it is a done deal either way. Don't know. Just a gut feeling given we the higher ups have been silent on things.
Damnit, why you gotta do us dirty like that Vegas?
I feel like the better bet is who is gonna show up under center for us? I'm still bewildered by what was going on with Hooker after he went out the second time.
Caaan Quincy come back for one last rodeo?
Don't think I would take a bet on VT with us favored by 3 over Virginia State University. And they aren't even playing this year.
Do think we can pull out a win. More talent in paper and a rivalry game so team should, be able to, again on paper. Do intend to listen to this one for a few reasons.
Can the coaching staff actually accomplish anything in what should be their last game auditioning for new jobs?
Can the players pull together and win or will they just meekly go through the motions (e.g., Wake) to complete the worst VT season in almost 30 years.
Can we lose 5 times in a season when favored?
And if they lose again to finish the year on a 1-6 streak, at least I can have the low benchmark to use to measure the new staff coming in.
Hey Vegas...

And it's an 8pm kick. Holy shit Saturday will be a loooooong day.
Even Jon Laaser said he hoped it wouldn't be a night game
What is our records when the line is within 3 points under Fuente?
4-10 straight-up
4-10 against the spread
I like our chances if Herbert plays and Fuente just feeds him the ball the whole game. If we go with the WR screen/East-West game instead, we're going to lose by 14. I hope Hooker, Tre, Darrisaw and Waller can play too.
The best reason we have a shot:
They beat us last year. Save for NCST and UL, our two other wins this year are against teams that embarrassed us in 2019 (Duke and BC).
W or L in this game, the Sun appears to have set on the Fuente Era.
I hope you are both a wise prognosticator and an excellent astronomer. All I want for Christmas is a win over LOLuva and a shiny new head whistle who loves to relate frequently with fans, the media and recruits while simultaneously assembling an exciting new staff. Nothing much at all really, right?
it's the same thing thousands of Hokies fans want...really makes Santa's job pretty easy this year, which is good because I'm sure they've been scrambling to figure out logistics with COVID
yeah man, talk about killing 66,233 birds with one stone
While it may hard for some of you to believe, there will still be Hokie fans in the stands and watching on the TV or whatever, regardless of our record or who's coaching. Not dismissing the feelings of dismay and resignation so many are feeling, just saying that some of us are able to separate those feelings from our general and lifelong fandom. Beamer's 2-8-1 year? I made it to every home game.
Do I think it's time for Fu to move on? Yeah, I've come around to that position, but it's not because of the lack of transparence, it's not because Fu isn't fan friendly, and I don't buy into the notion that he's just going through the motions. It is because we pay him way too much money for his recruiting and the subsequent performance on the field to keep tossing paper money in the ole wood stove and trying to justify the resulting btu bump. Do I want us to go back to 13-14,000 fans in the stands for a big game? Nope, though I had better seats in those days regardless of where my ticket was for and I have moved on from attending the games myself, but that's also out of my hands.
Oh, I'm not saying people shouldn't or won't watch. I'm saying that if Santa can bring about a win over LOLUVa and a new head coach, a crapton of Hokies will have their Christmas dreams come true. I just chose the capacity of Lane stadium to slap a number on it.
Sun has set according to who?
definitely according to lots of fans....unclear if anyone important shares that sentiment
Welp. Guess not.
Give Herbert the ball and get out of the damn way
FWIW, coworker Hoo is actually worried about this game because it's the only thing we have left to play for.
He ain't wrong.
Offense
- Herbert needs a good 25 touches
- Blackshear needs to be in the slot
- Hopefully Turner is able to play
- Put Mitchell as the other WR
- Hopefully Hooker is ok and can play with confidence. Put a damn heated tent on the sideline if you have to
Defense
- DL needs to be hungry. Want to see Reed dominate
- Keep their QB in the pocket
- CBs need to be aggressive with no cushion
- Safeties can't let anything get behind them
Quick reminder we are 3-7 ATS this season and we've only been in the ballpark of covering those 7 loses 2 times (Miami, Duke)
The other time we weren't even in the same time zone!
I hope we somehow beat UVA by 85 points.
Fuck UVA.
That being said, Fuente is a scared asshole and Mendenhall is not.
UVA sucks. They have no play makers on offense other than the improv QB, and they are very unathletic on defense. This is not a good ACC team. They suck. A good VT team would blast them into next week. Having said that, they are tougher and better coached than we are. The VT defensive staff- knowing that they really have only one guy that can run around and make things happen, will ignore that of course and Armstrong will have a career day. He will run right up the middle for big yards when it matters. Another loss to UVA, and our coach will say "the future is bright". Take UVA outright on the money line.
And all that said, I would not be shocked if they win by 2 scores.
They are averaging 32 ppg and come in having won 4 in a row. Their defense is allowing 29 ppg and has been atrocious. We know what thats like. Likely comes down to who plays on our side of the ball.
