I know it's been a hard year for hokies everywhere. Worst season since...1992? Losing 5 games we were favored to win. Suffering through the suspense of a lame duck coach (we think?) while our favorite son gets the big whistle at USCjr.
But no matter how you feel about our team's talent level, no matter how much you want Fuente to fail to secure his firing, no matter how that lacrosse school up the road's football team has done this year, every true hokie wants to end the regular season with a win over LOLUVa. Some of us are old enough to remember life before the streak. Others have only ever known domination over the wahoos save for last year's stumble. All of us, however, have experienced the ungodly condescension that just oozes from those assholes in charlottesville. This thread is for us to share stories to rile up the hate that may have been dulled by a postponed game against them in September and the crapfest that has been our season.
Even if we both suck, they still deserve to lose. Always.
I'll start:
I grew up just outside of Charlottesville. As a kid, I had Virginia basketball and football posters on my wall. Went to games when I could get free tickets (not in my parents budget to spring for tickets). Hell, I even bought a blue blazer, oxford blue shirt, and blue and orange striped tie when I was in high school to wear to soccer games. I had two older siblings go to Tech so we rooted for the hokies on Thanksgiving, but otherwise, it was wahoowa.
Then came time to apply to colleges. I knew I wanted to do mechanical engineering so I only applied to schools on the US News top 20 ME schools list. LOLUVa wasn't on this list. Tech was. So Tech was my in state option. Holy shit did I not know what I was getting into. My best friend's parents (both cavalier alums) tore into me for sending an application to tech and not LOLUVa. Said they thought I was smarter than to even waste time applying to a cow college like that.
Another one of my friends tried to convince me that LOLUVa produces better engineers because it's a better school all around. This guy ended up there for electrical engineering...for two semesters, then he washed out, got a management degree, and is doing his best Lumbergh impression rocking middle management who the hell knows where. In total, 45 of the 120 kids I graduated with went to LOLUVa, many of whom I was friends with in high school. Only one saw fit to keep in touch after one semester in that cesspool. **Shrug Emoji**
I hope you can all join me in this cathartic exercise. Here's to starting streak 2.0 this Saturday.

One of my best friends in graduate school went to UVa. Nice guy to hang around with and not at all pretentious. Just goes to show that if you dig far enough, you can find good everywhere. Just some places you have to dig a whole lot deeper and wider to find it.

yep. WAHS, but I went to Albemarle for a couple classes in middle school. I was on this goofy sliver of the map that jerked kids around between schools so I did middle school at Jouett. A quarter mile down my street, everyone went to AHS. A quarter mile the other way, everyone went to Meriweather Lewis.
all my siblings went to Henley and WAHS and they redistricted our area before I got to middle school (my siblings are also way older than me, my oldest brother just celebrated his 50th bday) so I ended up at Jouett and Albemarle. I actually have always thought WAHS was a better school than Albemarle (either that, or my siblings are just way smarter than I am)

There's just nobody who hates them more than me. Nobody. Right behind them, though, as a special feeling this year, I don't have any kind thoughts for any supposed Hokie fan who would even entertain the notion of hoping for us to lose just to hasten the firing of our football coach. Hiring and firing are waaaaay above my pay grade and financial influence, but hating the 'hoos is fun, easy and free.

I was behind a car with a University of Virginia thing around their license plate (I live in Arizona so this is a pretty rare occurrence) and the turd was going so slow that I ended missing my light but they of course made it-really bummed me out. That's all the hate I can muster right now.

Wife was out in Washington for work years and and is driving down from (I think) Seattle to Olympia. 3 lane highway with a super slow car in the middle that everyone is having to move out of the middle lane to get by. She blows by the car and notices it has Pennsylvania plates.

It's hard to hate someone when you're so apathetic about yourself, but here we go:
I hate that they "stole" our identity. Yeah they did it in a ham handed way, but they resemble the blue collar, hard working program now - not us. Sure it's stupid shit like breaking rock paver stones with a hammer but what do we do? Put the word grit on a hat? Make a robot do push ups?
I hate how they respond to adversity and manage to coach up players to their strengths consistently.
I hate how their coaching staff embraces social media and fan engagement at a way everyone not named Darryl Tapp does.
Most important, I hate that they have the Commonwealth Cup, and I want that shit back. If Ryan Willis and the 2018 Hokies could do it, so can this team. Love the way the players responded to Clemson and didn't give up, I think we should have a shot at next week.

I worked at a prestigious consulting firm. They said they didn't like to hire UVA grads because they had a semester internship program as part of their business school (for undergrads mind you) that convinced them they were better and worth more than grads from any other undergrad program, like it somehow conveyed 5 years of worthwhile work experience and so asked for more money than other grads. Nothing like getting blackballed from a major consulting firm for essentially being too egotistical. Cuz fuck em, that's why.

Slight tangent, but funny story time. In high school we all had this one friend in our group that we tolerated. He was an ass. Thought he was better than everyone else. None of us have kept up with him, I've seen him once while visiting another friend, that was 15+years ago.
So he was going to Harvard or MIT, until he wasn't. So one of our friends that graduated the year before was back in town visiting his family (he went to Nebraska so wasn't really in touch). We're all hanging out and the annoying friend is bragging that he is going to Penn for engineering. And Nebraska looks him right in the eye and says "why aren't you going to a good ivy league school?" I have never seen any one die inside as much as I did that day.
Moral of the story, if some is super annoying at going to a 2nd rate school, ask them why they aren't going to better school.
There were always those kids at private Maryland high schools. Notre Dame! BC! UVA! Until 2 years later, you make a pit stop at a rager at UMDs greek row, and you run into all of them.

Around 10 years ago I was traveling to Mexico for my friends wedding. I was seated in first class rocking my VT polo as one does when flying but unfortunately it was an airbus which means everyone walks through first class, the 757s are much better for that. So I'm sitting there minding my own business when some older lady starts talking shit to me for no reason, she then pointed at her hand bag which had the uva logo on it. I really wanted to be like "bitch, get your bitchass to steerage class", but I didn't because that would be rude.

Were you wearing Tech gear? I mean, even by UVa standards, it is hard to believe anyone would be so obnoxious as to just do things like that to a random person. Of course, I had a client at a west coast company that I could see doing that to random people. Don't think she went to UVa but I could see it. 1 of 4 people I have ever given a derogatory nickname to in my adult life. She was "The Wicked Witch of the West" as my ex-fiancé was already "The Witch."
Best part about her is that she was in tight with her boss. When he retired she "retired" shortly after him. Retired as in no party or announcement or anything in her group. Was friends with one of her co-workers and she was apparently an ass to them as well and was quickly canned when her protector left. He and a lot of others were real pleased with her "retirement".
They probably tried to teach the cup about Thomas Jefferson and didn't actually drink beer out of it.

Burnop is interviewing James Mitchell on the pregame and he talked about how when the UVAh fans stormed the field the were trying to push him and put their phones in his face and it left a bad taste in his mouth. Man would I love to see the Hokies stomp the Cavs and Bronco in the neck in 30 mins.
