So Rob in your expert opinion how good is this team really? I definitely didn't expect to have two victories against ranked teams before Christmas. How far do you see them going?
Also FAM!! Sounded like Juan Dixon was getting riled up on the radio haha.

Well three parts to that, much better overall team then last season. Great depth, which we aren't used to. Solid freshman based on tonight. Cattoor continues to improve by the game in terms of ball handling as isn't that guy who shoots threes and plays decent defense. Hard to believe but Cone has gotten better shooting the ball.
The flat play and sloppy ball handling really concern me when it comes to ACC play. You can't turn the ball over ~20 times and win many games.
Last though is that I am not sure if we will even get a clear picture on this team because at some point I still keep expecting the season as a whole to be shut down. Just going to enjoy each game as it comes.

Question for everybody:
Who in the ACC, besides FSU, is better than us? Behind FSU I think it's UNC and UVA, but I feel like we can beat both those teams if we play well. Nobody else in conference really scares me. If nothing goes wrong, we could finish 2nd. Am I crazy here?

I could definitely see a top 4 finish this year. It kind of feels like our first season in the ACC where an 8-8 record or 9-7 record could get us a 4 seed with an ACC down year and some parity within the conference.

Ugly is right. I almost posted after the game but wanted to sleep on it. This team struggles with pressure defense. I'm surprised more teams don't pressure them. Coppin State had decent defense but couldn't make a basket.
Hokies 3pt shooting got really hot in the second half.

A quick google search shows the median of 323 D1 college through December 18th, yesterday, to be 70.29%. I couldn't find the average percentage. However, with such a large population I would assume (yes, I know what happens when you assume) the mean is pretty close to the median. I too, would rather see a higher FT%, but I won't complain with anything above 70%. I also don't like anything above 10 turnovers for the game. This is something the Hokies need to work on, or there could be big trouble ahead.

That link is the Power Index. The Power rankings are done by one of their writers, but it's behind the ESPN+ paywall, so I don't know if I can link to it. We're at 13 in it.

Not sure how that guy justifies it but its interesting nonetheless. Some teams are being penalized for not playing enough games. There are also quite a few teams not getting credit for where they are this season because of lack of exposure
These are the undefeated teams with at least 5 wins. Only 6 of the 16 are ranked. There are 70+ schools with at least 5 wins and only 1 loss. This hasnt been the season where all the P5 teams play a large slate of powderpuffs either. The cool part is seeing some of the little guys thriving this season. Abilene Christian, Marist, Coastal Carolina and The Citadel all jump to mind
It was blacked out in my area, how many of the turnovers were the starters versus the bench? Full court pressure will always result in more turnovers and that is Choppin's play style.

As much as we play the first four off the bench, It is even worse. There were a few where we tried to make the extra pass underneath, which would kill us against LOLUVA, but the really painful ones were the ones at the top of the key. Lazy passes, no fakes, no one cutting to take advantage of the defense over-playing. Mistakes typical of a lack of experience, but would like to see those cleaned up sooner instead of later.

Edit: I don't think the GIF above was Real Genius, but this one is a works as well.

Nice night for the FAM!
Clearing the benches in bb is always a good sign.
Unless it's a Malice at the Palace type situation
Which was still fun to watch
Oh Artest laying out that guy who was taunting him in the stands was the most satisfying thing ever lmao
Bill Burr's an asshole, but his bit on this was absolutely gold.
Bill Burr is logical, rational human being, not an asshole.
He's an asshole with his delivery, the content isn't illogical or irrational. His observations are on point.
Leg for Mel Brooks. I love History of the World!
Leg for Bea Arthur
Won a game we were supposed to the way we were supposed to. FAM!
FAAAAAMMMMM!!!!!

Good: Win, TWENTY 3 ptrs. 43 rebounds. Freshman with 22 points. 4 players in double figures, 3 with 9.
Bad: 70.8% FT percentage. You know I'm a stickler for high percentages
Ugly: N'Guessan 5 fouls in 18 minutes.
Ugly: 18 Turnovers

It feels like we have always struggled with a full court pressure defense.

Currently 126th in FT% at 71.61% - 111/155

We are also 8th out of the 15 ACC teams.

40 point win. FAM
Just wait until mike young's first season
Severely underrated comment here. I wish I could give more than 1 leg.
got you covered
The Hokies are the only ACC team in ESPNs College B-Ball Power Rankings this morning. It truly is a strange year....

I dont know if this is the same one you are looking at but there are several teams (UVA, Syracuse, NC State, UNC, Duke, Clemson) that are ahead of us.

happy for the win and emptying the bench. Not happy about the TOs. Will be looking for some major improvement in the TO department tonight.
It was blacked out in my area, how many of the turnovers were the starters versus the bench? Full court pressure will always result in more turnovers and that is Choppin's play style.
14 for the starting lineup, 4 for the bench... Radford was the only starter without a TO
