Today's game

You can down vote if you want but this is I learned from today,

Leal does not look like a starter, the o-line has got to improve, we had way to many drops by WR, we missed way to many tackles on d, Coleman is not a very good rb I thought Magnus and wright both looked better.

Feel free to add or give reasons why I am wrong. I'm not attacking any individual just giving my opinion.

In all seriousness it was a hard game to watch. It looked like from the beginning it might come down to who was better prepared. from the first snap you could almost tell it was ucla

To be fair, I wasn't exactly impressed by Leal. Here's to seeing a good QB competition in the spring.

Leal didn't look like a starter, but I'm not ready to write him off. This was pretty much the only game he got minutes that mattered in his collegiate career.

I'll reserve judgment until after Spring ball, but he didn't look great in the pocket, and he made some bad mistakes that can be chalked up to inexperience, but you'd hope for better from a 3rd year guy, backup or not.

That said, today, his accuracy was better than LT's.

Don't know why, but I thought LT3 looked completely out of sync.

LTs last run was epic and summed uphis career.

I thought JC actually looked pretty good here, but I think Mangus should have been turned to as the everydown back. He has way more power. But JC was about the best I've ever seen him. He pretty consistently got 3-4 yards a play. Sure he didn't get an explosive play, but he made things easier on the offense.

Continuing on the Mangus theme. He is a much better returner than Knowles. Hopefully we start using him next year as our primary returner unless someone else becomes noticeably better. He ran with purpose and refused to go down. It was nice to see on an otherwise boring offense.

Rip his freaking head off!

I agree! That kid showed stones out there today and hustled even with the game out of reach.

FOSTERS: Australian for defense

There will be a good QB competition this spring, and possibly even fall. That will only help the team. No guarantees who will start, but Leal certainly has the advantage of experience going into 2014.

I honestly don't think were gonna waste a yr at the qb position on Leal when hes gonna be learning just like the new qbs. Might as well go with the younger guys and get them developed instead of wasting a yr

This. Up here in State College, this happened a bunch of years because Paterno always believed the senior had earned it. They rarely had a qb start for more than a year or two. Same thing happens at Wisconsin. Eventually you gotta bring in someone if you don't invest time in developing anyone. Motley, Hodges, and Ford are the guys I'm looking at for the QB competition.

Leal wasn't a starter. He was a backup. So if it looks like a duck...?

Eh, I don't think he was all bad. Played decently but made two significant mistakes. Wasn't ready for this, and no one expected that he needed to be.

I was very impressed with Jerome Wright, I can't remember seeing him all year but I was happy with his work. Same with Mangus, or as Verne liked to call him, "[something not his name]". I thought JC played well today, too, better than I expected (as I've not been high on him all year).

"Exit light..."

Can we add this guy?

Are you sure you went with the right Mango in your pic?

Boring and Fun Mango-SNL

I really did not like the announcers at all...they kept messing up all kinds of players names..mixing up Edwards24 and KJ34 several times...referring to Mangus as Magnum to name a couple of instances...And seriously, that hit on LT looked like the defender lead with his helmet and made contact with LT3's helmet when I looked at it. The announcers and refs didn't see it that way so I must be wrong. Really sucked to see LT3 go out that way.

They phoned it in with a rotary pay phone... lame

I was pissed when that dude got co-MVP who 'targeted' LT. He should have been ejected after that hit. He had 2 more helmet to helmet hits after that which were questionable at best. Dude plays dirty. I hope LT's concussion isnt too bad.

I hate passing judgment since shit happens fast on the field, but come one...it was obvious to everyone in the stadium and at home that Logan was gonna doink that pass off just by his arm position and body language. It's not like LT3 had his shoulder lowered and Zumwalt was fearing for his life. I'm actually pretty disgusted with it.

I think it's safe to say that jerk won't be invited to my birthday celebration this year.

Hate that guy!

I was actually pretty excited about how the OLine played at times today. We saw a few good combo blocks and for the most part pretty good pass protection. They're definitely in a MUCH better place now than they were 365 days ago.

And we've got an OL coach who will make them better. I'm not sure we have a QB or RB coach who I have the same confidence in.

I don't think that's fair to Loeffler. I'll agree that I'm not impressed by S.Beamer coaching the backs, but I think LT3 made some strides under Lefty. LT3 said himself that he learned a whole lot more about progressions and protections that he never heard of before. Loeffler is clearly a substantial upgrade over O'cain. I'm not even sure what O'cain taught the QBs if they've never heard of progressions or protections. I thought QB's learned some of that in HS at least..

He tought them the playbook? I don't even know, that'd still be Stiney's job.

I didn't get to see the end unfortunately, didn't look like I missed much, but was UCLA purposely running up the score? Looks from the boxscore like Hundley was throwing fifty yard bombs with a huge lead and enough time left to just run the clock out.

did anyone else expect Carlis Parker to get so many touches today? he hardly touched the ball all year before today

VT CEE Class of 2016/2017

5 years, 2 degrees, 33 football games as a student, and 2 Cassell court stormings later, I bleed Maroon and Orange

he had a wiggle too...there were several plays I thought he was dead in the water and all of a sudden we gained 4-6 yards

Onward and upward

I enjoyed seeing Wright and Parker get so many touches finally. As important as recruiting is, keeping young talent around is just as important.

Duke is tackling a lot better than we did today...let that sink in for a minute

they also just blocked a punt....why can't we have that?!?!?!?!?

Onward and upward

In our defense, we played a much better team.

Go Hokies, I can't even fathom seeing Leal at QB nest year.. There is now way after todays showing that he is even a dIII football player Looked awful... lol jk jk but seriously we looked/played/coached like absolute shit.. JC is a mediocre player freaking our 4th string fb wright played much better... ehck even Carlis freaking arker ran better on those jet sweeps

"I'm high on Juice and ready to stick it in!" Whit Babcock

I kept asking where was Wright all year? Dude was bringing it. Liked Magnus too. JC was good when in the open field (struggles in the pack).

Leal struggled, though I wonder if he had had some playing time this year if it would have helped.

I agree though, open it up to some of our freshmen.

Wright looked solid, but you could definitely see he looks more like a fullback than a full-time tailback. Still, I wouldn't have said no to seeing him carry the ball a bit more today, given the circumstances.

Wright, Mangus, and Parker were bright spots I didn't expect to see. Well, I've liked Mangus all season and have thought we should get him the ball more. But Wright, in particular, looked more like a RB than a FB.

Clark seemed like a liability in coverage.

Our defensive line missed so many tackles for loss.

The entire Rogers family is legendary. Someone call his phone, he was just mentioned on TKP.

hells yeah
