Ladies came up one basket short twice against #2 teams this season. Today they flipped the script. After near heartbreak at the end of regulation where NC State hit a miracle 3 at the buzzer to tie. Have to love the coach getting a Tech late in overtime. Four free throws and the ball.
The Lady Hokies left no doubt in overtime to beat the Wolfpack 81-71
Big game from Baines and a huge second half and overtime from Sheppard. She didn't score in the first half but put up 28 points.
First Hokies win against a Top 4 AP team ever after 44 losses.

After 7 losses of 10 points or less, I'm happy for this team. They deserve it FAM.
Looking forward to watching the replay on this one!
Way to go Ladies.

So close to being a force.

We truly are a basketball school now, FAM!
I don't know the proper adjective to use with this. Funny, True, or Sad (because of how Fu has mismanaged the football team).
Gotta love the way the basketball teams are getting out, competing, and winning.
Number 3 is about to go down as well tonight👀
Glad they finally got their breakthrough win
Down goes number 3 as well👀👀
FAM ladies!

Oh yes, the Lady Gobblers had a hell of a game!
Gobble Gobble Bitches!
Looking at our schedule. The next 6 out of 7 games is very favorable
Bracketology has us as the next 4 out before the game today so if we beat unc sunday who they have as the 13th seed in the ncaa they'll put us in that spot
Great glorious win for the ladies. I have to feel bad for Kitley, she must have bruises left and right after every game.
Alot of her bruises though because she lacks that strong first move and doesn't have strong ball control above her shoulders. She is constantly unable to rise up above her opponents. Hell, she got blocked by a 5'9 guard in this game because she has almost zero vertical jump.
I think a lot of Kitley's problems occur because the offense does not get her the ball in the right place to take advantage of her skills and minimize her weaknesses. Getting her the ball with her back to the basket and 2 or 3 defenders in the area to double and triple team her just leads to a lot of bruises(and turnovers). I began to see a lot more passes leading her to the basket against NC State. And a lot more situations where the spacing on the court is much better; so that other defenders had to stay with their player, giving Kitley a lot more room to work. And if they tried to come down and double there was a Tech player wide open for a pass either underneath or on the perimeter.
Hell yeah! Ladies program just keeps building. Great win!
The ESPN ticker said this is the biggest win in program history from a rankings perspective. The only other time they've beaten a Top 5 team was against Old Dominion....in 1985! What a win, then!!! Well done, ladies.
Yes, it's the first win ever over a Top 4 opponent. ODU was ranked #5 in that 1985 game. Prior to this game they were 0-44 versus Top 4.
Great win. Wish I had been able to watch, but at lest I can catch the reply this weekend. Hopefully this will help light a switch for more consistent effort and a slot in the NCAA's.
First step is to get out of the play-in game in the ACC tourny.
26 points in OT. Most points in OT for a women's program ever. It actually tied the record for a MEN's team in OT.
Setting records in more than 1 way! GO Hokies
Sheppard killed it at the free throw line. 12-14 almost all in OT.
I could only track the game on the ESPN Gamecast. It was just showing Sheppard makes free throw again and again. IT WAS AWESOME.
