Thought we could use a fresh thread for the match against UNC.

Key Matchups

  • 149 lbs #12 Andonian vs #1 O'Connor: Rematch of last year's ACC Title bout. This match could go a long way in determining the winner of the dual
  • 133 lbs #8 Meyers vs #11 Hernandez: Meyers may be under the radar at #8 in the rankings. He has looked much improved over 2018 (Was out with an injury during the 2019/2020 season).
  • 165 lbs #1 Lewis vs #8 Monday: Monday gave McFadden fits last season. Look for Lewis to get some revenge utilising all the new tools he picked up during his Olympic Redshirt.
  • 184 lbs #2 Bolen vs #15 Lautt: Bolen has looked much better since his struggles in the first match of the year. Look for him to continue his success and set up a big time showdown next week against #5 Trent Hidlay of NC State.

He is not controlling the tie ups very well. He keeps getting caught after O'Connor goes 2 on 1

O'connor hit blast doubles from across the mat and Bryce just looked totally unaware. That was a weird match. Myabe O'connor has really widened the gap between them by that much.

Yes. The close official is the one calling the match. The other one tries to get a different view and will sometimes make a call the main one missed.

Howard puts it all together and pulls off the HUGE upset. I am so happy for Howard. He has worked so hard and this hopefully means he is turning the corner. Still needs to work on his shot defense though...

Smith battles back but comes up short, 9-5. Giving up early near fall points was the difference. Went for a lat drop late but gave up a takedown for the final score.

Great win for the Hokies and MVP goes to Howard. Heck of a first win of the season. Hope he is able to build on it. Caught a fish hook in my foot walking barefoot on the carpet in my new apartment while watching the dual so I have to go update my tetanus shot.
