Can't disagree with that, but ACC is doing horrible again in bowls. Cutliffe is doing a great job coaching with what he has. Just saying. Would love if we would be better. Sigh.

I keep thinking 'ol Cutcliffe will be on list of potentials for that Texas job. If he nearly took down A&M with his dookies, just imagine what he could do with a team full of studs.

The fact that we held them to 13 points, while they're currently lighting up a ranked SEC team makes me feel a little bit better. Cutcliffe has also been recruiting for a specific system for 5 years. We haven't, so our class may have ranked higher in terms of overall talent, but not within any sort of coherent identity (at least on offense).

Not trying to be argumentative, but how is Beamer not recruiting for a specific system? He has always liked the spread offense. So what is the difference between how Cutliffe is recruiting vs Beamer? Just curious. I'm not really an X's and O's guy either.

Think about how much shifting around we've done to fill positions. Former QBs being put as RB or WR, TE moving all over the line. There's no identity there. For years, we relied on a mobile QB to cover deficiencies elsewhere. We settled into the "draw it up in the dirt" mentality for too long and ended up with insufficient depth and O-linemen capable of asserting the run game.

Look at our offensive line (or, more specifically, what French pointed out about said line earlier this year). For starters, taking a grand total of what, 2 OLinemen in 2 or 3 years = problems. Taking talented athletes and just expecting them to fit right in at WR, instead of recruiting actual receivers has held us back as well. This year, we've got a class of 5 OLinemen who are in the same mold: lean guys who can move laterally. We've recruited receivers who have played the position in high school and have proven to be playmakers. We've recruited 2 quarterbacks who are good passers in high school, not just athletes who can also sorta throw. Toss a couple of very talented running backs into the mix, and you've got a system-specific recruiting plan. THAT'S how you're supposed to recruit at a BCS school.

okay first off I completely disagree with beamer always liking the spread. He wants to pound the rock. He's said that for decades.
secondly, beamer is a defensive minded coach. He played defense. He's always coached with that mindset. He wasn't the coach responsible for recruiting poorly on offense. Our defensive recruiting has been brilliant for years. We may not bring in the 5* recruits left and right but we have a system and we get guys who fit the system. We've had a top 20 defense forever. Our offense, on the other hand, hasn't had any direction or identity for the last 7+ years. That is where Loeffler is trying to make changes. The offensive staff appears to be recruiting with a purpose.
This season Loeffler was trying to solve a 5000 piece puzzle with 12 pieces. He had a pretty serious up hill battle to fight. He still has an up hill battle. I think it's going to take 2 or 3 full recruiting classes to get all the pieces together.

Can't argue with that either. I appreciate that. Sorry I've just always heard he liked a spread type offense for years, hence why he kept Stiney and then hired Loeffler. Granted as I said, not an X's and O's type. Just needed more info and ya'll stepped right in. I shall take a shot now.

This game is absolutely ridiculous. But I kinda miss the defensive struggle that used to be football. With this game its like you know the winner is whoever has the ball last

Clemson showed well last year I believe. If FSU is the only team to pull out a win this year, I think it goes toward proving that winning the ACC & undefeated is still a title worthy accomplishment.

FSU winning would make the biggest statement. I don't expect klempson to win, especially against a team coached by Urban Meyer that had its eyes on the National Championship.

I will probably get downvoted for stating this but I'm personally glad that Duke shat the bowl. If they hadn't then the perception out there would be that Duke is on our level (or worse) had passed us in football. I'm absolutely not #goacc unless we're top dawg.

Someone here said it best (paraphrasing), "Duke going to the ACC Championship: it's cute once, but if it becomes routine then it gets annoying." Miami is not back, GT's offense will only take them so far, UNC can be a threat (albeit inconsistent), Pitt could be a factor, and Virginia will always be #LOLUVa. I say there's a good chance we make a serious run at the Coastal title next year. But I'd be shocked if FSU doesn't win the Atlantic, and probably the ACC again.

A team that has never had a recruiting class as good as the Hokies might get a better bowl win than the Hokies have had in a decade plus...
That does not make me feel good

Makes sense. Thanks for the reply. Double bourbon and coke for you.
My favorite drink!
Rum and Coke was at one time my favorite. Now it's just my "I'm ge'in' drrrrrrrnk" drink.

Bud Foster would want to run the spread if he were head Coach. Oregon style.
Damnit. ipad did it again. No down vote. Seriously. Triple bourbon and coke for you.
You can fix that, you know...
Well now I do. I did thanks. Need another shot.
He's said he likes Clemson's offense. But then again, Clemson can usually run the football pretty darn well.
They are laying the wood to aTm. I am loving it. They may have scored more in that half than we have in several bowl games total in recent years.
GUYS WE JINXED IT...NOOOOOOOOO
dook pulling a clemson?
Yeah we did. Its been nothing but aTm since we started this thread.
quick Joe, delete this thread!!!!
My fault gents. Should have just STFU.
Duke isn't pulling a Clemson because they are actually playing well against a better team right now
The TD by Duke's TE just now was amazing how he kept control of his feet on the sideline.
Amazing play. Thought for sure he stepped out after getting the first, but replay showed it.
Then Duke's D doesn't bother to come back on the field. Johnny Football three plays 75 yards TD
aTm isn't quitting either. Fun to watch at least.

I think this is what Bud Foster's nightmares look like.
do'h
Over 1,000 yards of offense between the two. Ridiculous. And typing this a pick 6. DAMN
RIP Duke
Well fuck
Too bad Duke goes out like that.
Boone with a Leal esque pick. Game over.
aaaaaand now Duke get a taste of the disappointment of losing a big game like this
Holy shit is ESPN slurping Manziel or what this game
Made it hard to watch
Hated how they kept showing his mug on timeouts.
#GoACC? :/ sucked to watch dook go out that way, especially to Manziel. I really wanted them to spoil his (likely) last game.
Says something about aTm that they were in so many games like this where Manziel had to bail them out (or they were in so deep he couldn't).
With this loss, the acc is looking more pathetic than ever. Terrible bowl record, not a great way to earn respect.
