Hokies at #18 in AP Poll

The loss didn't hurt the Hokies much. Mainly due to losses by about half the AP 25, but also due to the buzz created around the finish of the Miami game.

So much of the voting here doesn't make much sense. Outside of Gonzaga and Baylor there has been more parity this season but seven of the Top 15 teams have at least 5 losses. Almost want to check the disparity between Kenpom and AP. I know the computers aren't kind to the Hokies but I am now more curious about the others.

For a lot of the teams they are close, Villanova is a bit high in the AP poll because they only had 1 loss before this week.

The only real big outliers are VT, Missouri, and OK state.

Just keep us out of that cursed #16 spot!

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Except when we play UVA

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Hokies are 36 in Kenpom/35 in NET rankings.

We peaked at 29th before the loss to pitt.

This has to be the first time when VT is ranked in the AP poll and UNC, Duke, Kansas and Kentucky all aren't. What a time to be alive.

Now at 31 losses and counting.

No UNC, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky or UCLA in the poll for the first time since Dec 18, 1961.🀯

None of the top 13 all-time winningest programs appear in the poll. Also🀯

the numbers don’t lie and they spell disaster

Pitt happens

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

18 is twice the team that 9 is.

Just sayin.

Without doing any deep analytical dive, I would say college basketball is trying their best to create the ""SEC" of basketball with the B1G. They currently have 4 teams ranked with 6 or more losses. While Louisville has 4. Clemson has 5. The ACC has 3 ranked teams. The B12 has 4 ranked teams with 5 losses. Again, thinking why Louisville isn't ranked?

Without going into non conference schedules, the B1G is much deeper and more competitive than the ACC this year. They have 8 teams in kenpoms top 25 while the ACC only has 2. As for creating an SEC of cbb, ideally for cbb marketing, that conference would be the ACC headlined by UNC and Duke and followed by multiple high profile basketball programs.

Outside it's night time, but inside it's LeDay

ACC has been down a bit the last two years. But 2019 featured 5 of the top 14! Bottom half of the ACC, namely ND, Pitt, NC State, GT and Wake have really underachieved for several years now. All have excellent basketball histories and can't get out of their own way. No reason for them to not be top 50 teams.

Statistics will only hurt the ACC. It's been a top heavy conference for my entire life. Basketball arguably has 6 Blue Bloods, UCLA, Indiana, Kentucky, Kansas, UNC, and Duke. The ACC having two if them has been a huge benefit in the perception. But doesn't help with analytics if you don't have depth.

Of the 5 ACC teams in the top 25 for wins (actual wins not officially wins), 3 are new to the ACC and ND and Cuse haven't done much since joining (UofL is 5th)

Its a conference that got by on its history but hasn't done much as a whole in the KenPom era (~17 seasons). Duke has been a top ten team in all but one season, this season will make the 2nd time. The dominance by UNC and Duke is just astounding. Maryland leaving hurt the conference. UVA helped in the past 5 or so years, but no one wants that.

Wake hasnt been good in a long time outside Duncan and Paul years, GT hasnt been good since Bosh, I dont know when NC State was last good.

Analytics aren't kind to top heavy leagues, poll perception is kind to top heavy leagues.

EDIT: kansas

Just one of those WTF losses back would be such a different story this year.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

Is there any reason why the F$U game on the 20th shouldn't be moved to Blacksburg? There were already cries last week about the massive imbalance of F$U's schedule, so why can't they be punished a bit by being forced to make the trip north?
