UVA struggled on offense most of the game and only till the last few minutes when they pushed the tempo found some success but even then it was mainly huff and hauser scoring and not alot from anywhere else. The ACC regular season title should be going to FSU unless something insane happens and they slip up.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Did not realize how much the wheels have come off the bus at Pitt. After an 8-2 start, they are now 9-9. Two of their starters have decided to transfer and the remaining star is going to the draft this spring. Capel may be on his way out as part of this. Only win unfortunately was against us and Xavier Johnson is now one of those transferring.

ACC Games of the Weekend

#1 FSU @ #4 UNC (I think we want FSU to win to help our chances for the double bye)
#2 UVA - bye
#3 VT vs # 13 WF (absolute must win to get the double bye)
#5 Louisville @ #6 Duke (This only helps VT's chances to get the double bye)
#7 Clemson vs #14 Miami
#8 Syracuse @ #9 GT (I think with only two more games remaining after this, a result in this game guarantees a first round bye)
#10 NC State vs #12 Pitt (No effect on our standings)
#11 Notre Dame @ #15 BC (ew)

Never Forget #1 Overall Seed UVA 54, #64 UMBC 74

Schedule for VT is pretty soft to finish up, should really be gunning for Uva's #2 spot. We finish against the current #13, #10 and #5 (at home).

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

If seeding is determined by winning %, I'm most worried about Clemson. They have this weekend's game against Miami, followed by next weekend against Pitt. Both of those are easily winnable games, which would give them a 10-5 record.

A win vs Wake and the worst our WP could be is 60%. In that scenario:

Louisville doesn't have me too concerned, as they have road games at Cameron and Cassell, before finishing up against UVA. If they lose to us, they're done, if they lose to either of the other 2, they have to hope we lose to NC State to pass us.

Duke could be a backdoor 3 or 4 seed, with their other remaining games being on the road against GT and UNC. Winning out would put them at 67%, which would also knock UNC out of 4th place contention.

Likewise UNC has home games against FSU and Duke, and a road game at Syracuse. UNC would have to win out to pass us in the standings.

Syracuse has to win out to pass us. Because they play UNC, one of them is automatically eliminated.

Georgia Tech has Syracuse and Duke, followed by a road game against WF. They have to win out to pass us. The foursome of UNC, Duke, Syracuse, and GT should sort themselves out to 1 or 2 potential contenders for the 4th spot.

Never Forget #1 Overall Seed UVA 54, #64 UMBC 74

Women's Basketball:

#1 Louisville @ #5 Notre Dame
#2 NC State @ #4 Syracuse
#3 GT vs #12 Pitt
#6 FSU vs #8 WF
#7 VT vs #9 UNC

Wins by Louisville, NC State, Wake, and VT will catapult the Lady Hokies into the double bye.

Gotta hand it to the team this year. In their conference losses, had they averaged 1 more basket per quarter, they'd already have the #1 seed locked up, and depending on the type of basket, they'd be undefeated.

Never Forget #1 Overall Seed UVA 54, #64 UMBC 74

We could be the 4 seed as you say. We could be the 5 seed if FSU beats WF. And we could be the 7 seed if we lose to UNC.

Doesn't matter if it's cake or pie as long as it's chocolate.

Also of note, a win over UNC likely jumps the Hokies into the Top 25 with several losses already this week by ranked teams and almost every team has one additional game this weekend.

Ranked men's and women's basketball programs? At the same time? Is that allowed?

We must be a roundball school now.

Be careful, the men need to win today as well to definitely stay ranked.

So far this week #4 Ohio State, #5 Illinois, #6 Alabama, #7 Oklahoma, #9 Iowa, #15 LOLUVA, #16 :(, #17 Kansas, #18 Texas Tec, #19 USC, and #24 Missouri lost

Tomorrow and Sunday, 23 of the Top 25 are in action. There are four matchups of Top 25 teams so there will be at least 4 additional Top 25 losses.

#2 Baylor at #17 Kansas 8PM ESPN

Sunday

How do we think Gt Matches up against cuse? Another GT run away or will cuse be a better matchup for them (taking out of consideration the refs actually calling fouls on GT this game)

Syracuse actually has guards who will penetrate off the dribble which I think GT will struggle against. Should be a fairly even matchup though as I expect Wright will also have another 20 point double-double

Follow up unrelated question. Watching other teams play lately I've noticed we do more bounce passes than almost any team I've watched that is not VT. Am I just biased and seeing this through home team goggles?

And if I'm right; why do we tend to bounce pass so much instead of rocket it right to the guys chest, especially when up top around the perimeter. We've been losing a lot of balls up top with lazy telegraphed and slow passes lately and I can't help but wonder if the bounce passes contribute

I cant say definitively that we do it more than others. It is however a major problem, too many cute passes especially in the lane. Part of why it stands out is that more teams in the ACC than any other conference have adopted some form of the pack line defense. Louisville, Wake, UVA and even Georgia Tech to a point. The hands in the lane make these passes a big risk as we saw several times against the Yellow Jackets.

The curved bounce pass from the perimeter into the post to get around the initial defender seems to be a favorite of Wabissa and appears to have rubbed off on Hunter as well. As you mentioned this becomes a problem when its telegraphed or the timing is off. It also makes it more difficult for the receiver to get up ito a shooting position as many times they are catching below the waist, giving defenders additional time to either get a hand in or better position themselves.

Another aspect of this is two-fold, our guards are not dynamic enough to blow by someone to the rim and they are methodical which allows their primary defender to square up on them to create passing lane issues. Outside of Bamisile playing more I am not sure there is a good solution at this point.

If they beat GT in their next game and manage 1-1 in ACC Tourney, they will get in as an 11 or 12 seed. Go Yellow Jackets!!

I could definitely see the NCAA putting them into the First 4 just for the added TV ratings.

One of the ACC Radio shows was hypothesizing they would be one of the 'Replacement/Alternate' teams and would replace somebody as a COVID swap. Imagine the sports media meltdown's if they get in the tourney that way.

I told him I’d crawl on my hands and knees to be the DL coach at Virginia Tech. Now, all of a sudden, I’m sitting in this chair and I told him I’d still crawl on my hands and knees to work here. I just want to be here.

Utah beating #19usc for another upset. Can't wait til March!

KU over Baylor. Won't effect the Bears seed, but I think this tournament is gonna be unpredictable as hell

This actually hurts us a bit rankings wise. Not really concerned regardless as getting in is the key wherever we fall but always nice to be ranked well too.

And #9 Iowa over #4 OSU. Not really an "upset" per say,but seeding implications for the B10 tourney. But again March is going to be super interesting as long as it goes off without a Covid hitch
