The future is bright!
I am assuming Bede is moving on with this announcement. Will be nice to be 5 on 5 on offense.
Moving on to be our GA
I approve of this message.
Don't GA's pay their own way? If that is the case, isnt he better off taking advantage of the free year and going off scholarship for a 5th season?
Long game...move into the ranks of coaching now to be in a better position in the future. If there's a spot open on the Assistants room, there's a good chance it's not open next season.
Bede does seem excited about Murphy fwiw
I have a question:
What level of Charisma is required for the "Captain Charisma" title? 16? 18?
Is Bede the team Bard or Warlock?
Not sure, but I love that handle for him.
Mike Young out here making some legit Saturday night moves.
But can Mike Young recruit? /s
I love that guy
Saw the tweet by mike young and was confused why he was saying it but now I see and all I got is, "CAN I GET A HELL YEAH?"
It moved.
This year isn't done and I'm already looking forward to next year and defending our Natty.
Ya boys from Middleton Wisconsin let's go hahaha
Keep 'er movin!
Prairie Du Sac, WI born and raised, represent. Hope he can get MY to get curds sold at concessions!
The #1 reason I don't want to leave Wisconsin is curds. How are they not a thing everywhere?
I live in Virginia. Just about every restaurant serving Americana has cheese curds. Buffalo Wild Wings cheese curds are my wife's favorite.
This kid can flat out stroke it. Great pick up
"Wait are we not doing the phrasing thing anymore?" -Archer
Goodness he is gonna get roasted in the locker room for those moves. But wow, team leader in points and assists, 40% 3pt, great pickup!
He is going to fit right in. Have you seen Hunter Cattoor dance?
this guy
If he gets this excited for dinner, imagine the moves he'll put on when draining the game winning three pointer against Duke
You think we're gonna let Duke get that close over the next few years?
This.
Is.
Fantastic.
Excellent news.
So assuming no unforeseen attrition, how many roster spots are available? I'm going under the assumption that Bede, Diarra, and Pemsl will be moving on and two of those slots are now taken (Murphy and incoming freshman Sean Pedulla). So just one spot, right?
seniors can play an extra year if we can afford the bonus scholarships, so theoretically VT can add 3 while retaining Bede, Diarra, & Pemsl
Did the actual scholarship limit increase to match the extra year of eligibility?
No, it's just that the people with COVID waivers won't count against it. So Coach K can't go sign 11 one and dones, but we have space to actually have a freshman class.
Only for the seniors who could have left.
Virginia Tech : Wofford :: Texas A&M : Virginia Tech
Is this what all those football staff tweets a year and a half ago were about? /S
welcome home, storm!
Storm Murphy >> Storm Duck
Huge addition!
A PG who averaged 16 ppg? Yes, please!
Another transfer name to look out for is Jamison Battle. 6-7 SF from GW. Averaged 18 ppg and 5 rpg this season
Are you bringing this up solely because of his name?
Nah I think he would be a tremendous addition to the team
Storm...Battle...are we recruiting basketball or does Tech have an American Gladiator team I am unaware of and now want?
Just got better
Murphy (and Bede if he sticks around) will also be a good mentor for Pedulla.
Pedulla's season is ongoing and there are some recent highlights posted on his HUDL page
https://www.hudl.com/profile/11060425/Sean-Pedulla
How long does he have to quarantine before he can play?
Approximately six months
Had a great conversation with Storm. Expect it posted later this week. Really sharp kid.
So that's a nice/welcome boost in PG scoring, but can he play defense? Just trying to figure out the trade-off.
It's only a few stats, but 102 steals over his career vs 96 and counting for Bede, 3 blocks vs 30 and counting for Bede.
Murphy's better on the offensive boards: 35-25 and defensive boards 270-253.
Offensively, there's almost no comparison. Murphy has been averaging ~85% for his career from the line and north of 40% from beyond the arc to Bede's 55.6% and 29.9% respectively
Assists+Steals/TO margin: Murphy 2.42:1, Bede 3.51:1
That last stat is alarming, but if you shoot/score more then I'm guessing less assists to be had. Similarly, if you drive to the basket/look for your own shot, more turnovers.
Considering he's averaging ~4.5 Assists+Steals per game, I'm ok with the additional turnover per game if it means 10+ more points on the offensive end.
Thanks no knock on Bede, he's just not a scoring threat. He's a phenomenal floor general and his 5.5 assists per game last year was nothing to sneeze at.
There is no statistic I know of to back this up, but my perception is Bede had an really high number of "uncredited" TO's compared to other PGs.
By that I mean empty possessions caused by stuff like dribbling without a purpose until late in the shot clock and then taking a really low percentage shot or dribbling into trouble and then making an emergency pass to a teammate in a non-scoring, no-win position - also too often resulting in a bad shot or turnover.
My guess is he did this maybe three times a game on average.
To go off of this, the number of times the other team can put an extra guy in the paint or double someone and just leave Bede on the perimeter definitely contributed to some empty possessions.
Or the rather infuriating plays where he dribbles, uncontested, all the way under the basket before kicking it back out to somebody who is covered, who takes a low percentage shot from beyond the arc, while he is standing there under the basket, unguarded.
Beat out UNC for Storm, big recruiting win even considering the built-in relationship between Storm and CMY.
Beat out the Badgers for him too
So that makes us Baylor?
Cuz whoever wins between UNC and Wisky is getting thrashed by Baylor
No, we aren't that shitty of a school
Look, he heard that the F-35s are coming to Madison airport and he doesn't want to hear them roaring overhead or polluting the water even further. He knows he can eat the fish in the New River and he can't eat the ones from Mendota or Monona. It was an easy choice.
Very impressive. Like you said, even with the CMY connection, that's an impressive pull.
Im pretty sure Coach frequents this site and knows all about ABC! ALWAYS. BE. CLOSING!
That's interesting. He didn't mention UNC to me among the ones he was considering/talking with.
Read this article earlier, I inferred that UNC was in the mix.
I had read that article too, but got to this quote and assumed it was written by some UNC blowhard:
Honestly, if I was looking into the mind of Roy Williams, he's probably spending more time fantasizing about a way to steal Mutts from us instead. An intelligent PG who doesn't rely on supreme athleticism and length does not seem to fit the UNC mold.
One of my favorite lines from "Night at the Museum" was when Ben Stiller told Dexter the monkey, "There's a storm comin'." I couldn't find that one on Giphy so hopefully this one will do (which shows what we will do to the ACC next season):

(for really obscure movie quotes, google search: "yarn.io - name of movie - the quote you want"
It should show up as a video clip, but then there's a gif button it translates it to on the website.
