Doing the honorable thing. Have to keep telling myself:
Do not stuff the ballot box.
Do not stuff the ballot box.
Do not stuff the ballot box.
Do not ...
If Patton wins again I will fucking lose it. Shoulda been out in the first round.
I voted Patton in the first round, but not sure if it is better than Das Boot.
Patton won 5 Academy awards and was named by the American Film Institute as one of the top 100 American movies ever made. People who knew General Patton have said that George C. Scott absolutely perfected his portrayal of the legendary general. I get it if you simply didn't enjoy the movie, but it is widely considered a classic by both film and history buffs.
I think Saving Private Ryan was going to win all along. I consider myself well versed in war movies and I haven't seen anything that can really beat it in a majority of categories films are usually judged on. The only thing I can really gig the movie on is the realism of the plot. They wouldn't have sent 8 guys through enemy held territory to find one guy even if they knew there were other Airborne units they could link up with. Also, when they were hoofing it across the French countryside, they were talking way too loud and not spaced out enough. Two well placed mortars would have ended the movie right then and there.
I would watch the Dirty Dozen another dozen times before I watched Saving Private Ryan again. SPR was okay, I did not think it was that great a war movie. That is why these are opinion polls.
I totally understand. Dirty Dozen is a great movie. I have about 8 favorite war movies and Dirty Dozen is in there.
Voting has closed for this bracket.
Saving Private Ryan cleaned up The Dirty Dozen 46-12
Das Boot was the only thing out of Germany to have stopped Patton 36-22
Braveheart booted Gettysburg 42-16
Outlaw Josey Wales deflected Full Metal Jacket 44-14.
