I'm legit shocked by this video. Virginia Tech waited an entire day after Selection Sunday to drop a Thanks for Doubting Us video. Just to be clear, Virginia Tech is a 10 seed. They aren't a 1 seed. They haven't even won a game yet. They aren't even favored to beat Florida!

Are we really worried about what Barstool says? This is literally the definition of noise. This is post is ridiculous.
Why because you don't like Barstool? Barstool has a massive following with legit sponsors and media credentials.
VT included them in a video that WE made and they aren't allowed to respond cause "wgaf" what Barstool says? I don't like or dislike Barstool but post like this annoy me. We engaged them.
What does that have to do with their underlying poor takes and pretty poor image among most people?

Regardless of your personal opinions around Barstool Sports, they are a member of the media with a pretty significant following, and have the ability to sway public opinion on an issue.
But why should fans of Tech be worried about that though? That's my point. If Most of us don't really care what Berman a local reporter has to say about the team and coach why would we care what Barstool personalities have to say when it's opinion pieces not just reporting.
It's a case by case basis right? I think this story is a non-issue and largely irrelevant, but I was mostly responding to your post about Barstool. I wouldn't dismiss the reach of Barstool just because you believe they have poor takes. I'd wager they're one of, if not the leading sports/sports-adjacent media outlet for middle and upper class white males under 30. That's a pretty large demographic. Say what you want about Barstool and their fans, but they have a substantial following, and wield a lot of influence as a result.

Barstool is the worst. There is absolutely a point to pointing out us being picked near last and making the big dance (and being 3rd in the ACC for that matter).

to people who follow the program, the pre-season predictions are night-and-day to the way the season actually played out
"we did better than you thought we would do" is always gonna be met with "yeah but you still didn't actually do anything"
That's exactly what this is. To me, where we were when Buzz left to where we are now, I'm pumped and want to rub it in everyone's face. To anyone else, we've lost 2 of our last three, struggled with COVID, limped into the tourney as a 10 seed and are a 1 point dog.

I agree with your point but I think they should have put this out after the ACC regular seasons was over, and have it as a response to how people picked us last or near last in the conference.
The only thing left to do now is have a keyboard measuring contest. Barstool should appreciate sports banter for what it is. Every fan of every team talks shit until they lose and then look stupid. But there is nothing to be embarrassed about. Only one team won't lose in this tourney.
I like it. I love what our social media posted. I like what Barstool said in response. It keeps the chip on our shoulder and now gives us more motivation for each game.
Not having Jalen Cone against Florida is going to hurt and I really hope we don't lose first round. It'll be pretty obvious that Barstool will make fun of us for the next year if we do lose.
What's the saying - there's no bad publicity (to an extent). They slammed MSU for managing to make it into the play in game, too.
The people that are upset that Big Cat responded the way they did make me laugh. It's all friendly social interaction. The video calls out Big Cat and Rico Bosco because they wanted a reaction and got one. What is Big Cat gonna say, "ya got me?" No and I hope he wouldn't. Him engaging gets clicks and that's what our social team wanted. If we get blown out by Florida - Big Cat can talk about it and have a laugh as I would hope he would if another team did this. If we win and make a run - it'll be awesome and our social media will take advantage. You can be a VT fan and still be impartial to see both sides. It's exciting how much we've surpassed all expectations and also pretty funny that we're a 10 seed making the video. Love and excited for MY and team, laughed out loud at the jab to Rico and Barstool, and still thought Big Cat was right. Any other team doing this and I'm laughing about it, so I'm definitely not upset.
I should note I'm replying to you because you nailed it with no publicity is bad because our social team isn't dumb and knew what they were doing and what the reaction would be. It's sports. Our fans will be excited about the video and other teams will make excuses as to why we surpassed expectations and why it isn't a big deal. Covid year, blue bloods were bad, we missed a bunch of games.

Barstool has made a career out of punching down. This kind f exchange shouldn't surprise anyone, especially when it comes to them eating just a small dose of humble pie
I like the video we made, but also don't see an issue with Barstool pointing out that the clip from Pardon My Take was from 2 or 3 years ago, which is a weird flex on our part.
I really dont care about their take. The point of our video (I think) was that we were picked slightly above a bottom dweller in the ACC standings and we significantly exceeding the majority of expectations, so thanks for the misguided takes this preseason, media. I'd like to know why Barstool thinks its fine for Barstool to fire off it's critique of everyone but not be on the receiving end when one of those fires back.
They don't care that people come at them. That's like one of their pillars in that company. I mean their podcast/show is called Pardon My Take and one of the hosts entire persona was originally based on bad takes from Pro Football Talk message boards. They make money from all publicity.
