Smart, a Wisconsin native, has been the head coach at Texas for six seasons. The Longhorns have gone to three NCAA tournaments under Smart but have yet to win an NCAA tournament game with him at the helm. They won the Big 12 tournament earlier this month but were then upset by 14-seed Abilene Christian in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
Wouldn't shock me if Brent hops ship again.

He was about to get fired so he pull the old nope im gonna quit and find a new job before then card😂
About to be fired after a top 15 season?
Yeah but he had a 500. Big 12 record in 6 seasons and 0 tournament wins
He was on the hot seat going into this season. The terrible showing in the first round brought those conversations back.
hasn't made the Sweet 16 since his VCU Final Four run. in six seasons at Texas, he didn't win a single NCAA tournament game
His postseason results at Texas:
'15-16: at large NCAA bid, lost in first round
'16-17: did not qualify for NCAA or NIT
'17-18: at large NCAA bid, lost in first round
'18-19: did not qualify for NCAA, won NIT
'19-20: covid season
'20-21: automatic berth as Big-12 Tournament champion, lost in first round
Should Pastner be fired from GT then?
Apples - Oranges
Not really at all. Shaka has done better at Texas even with what he was left with
It's not "should", it's "would". The internal expectations for Pastner with GT basketball in the ACC are not as high as those for Smart with Texas basketball in the Big 12, regardless of whether or not you think that's justified
He has really coasted off of that final 4 season, a team that really wasn't that good and got impossibly hot at the right time. His teams really haven't been that good (only 1 team in his career in the top 20 on kenpom) and he has had some downright puzzling NCAA losses. This year, the loss to Stephen F Austin where they fouled a three point shooter up 4 with 3 seconds left, plus the Northern Iowa loss. He's more Josh Pastner than people would admit.
If he had a buyout in his contract then this is a bad financial move unless he REALLY wanted the Marquette gig
that would be ....curious
I think the overall oddness of A&M and their fanbase matches up pretty well with Buzz.
Heard they going after Beard from TTU
Which makes way more sense. He's had more success more recently, in Texas. And while UT will never hurt for money A&M can certainly compete with the pocketbook.
After 6 years, Shaka's buyout must have been pretty low.
Unless their AD likes to give ridiculous extensions and buyouts...
We thought it was a good idea at the time. Turns out it wasn't
So Smart got that sweet sweet UT money for 6 years, and parlayed his "subpar" (by UT booster expectations) performance there into more good money at a "hometown" school.
Pretty "smart" of Shaka...amirite?
I was going to say that, but thought that discretion was the better part of valor.
Buzz leaves Milwaukee for Virginia
Shaka leaves Virginia for Texas
Buzz leaves Virginia for Texas
Shaka leaves Texas for Milwaukee
Little game of musical chairs we have going on here
2022 Shanka moves to VA to take over for Fuente...
Shaka's strength and conditioning program would be an improvement...
I remember reading about the review of his VCU's teams trip to Rome. They had to run between attractions, no buses.
Hmmm, I don't hate it.
Buzz to the Bucks?
I know this is tongue-in-cheek but Buzz does not have the temperament to be an NBA coach - players making x5 more than him would tune him out after three months.
It was tongue-in-cheek. Buzz is a good leader of amatuer atheletes, not a genius basketball mind though.
Brent.... I heard he's going fishing this summer with Pat Narduzzi. What a jack wagon.
Wrong thread
Wow, to an in-state, in-conference, rival. Texas vs. Texas Tech games will be heated
Damnnn, didn't think he'd make that move even as a UT alum. Rough for Texas Tech. What'll happen to Mac now?
Beard was making a base $5M/Yr at TTU. Sark is making $5.2M/Yr to start at Texas. Good chance that we'll see a basketball coach making more than a football coach at Texas. Strange times!
