One writer's take has us at number 10, which seems....high? But the perception is definitely of a team on the rise.

The hype is real! We definitely a basketball school now
I have no doubt we will be ranked preseason, but #10 does feel high. But I'll take the love wherever we can get it.
It's one day after the season ended and VT basketball is already being mentioned. That is a very good thing
I saw this earlier today and thought about posting it with the clickbaitiest title possible:
ESPN's Way Too Early Basketball Rankings - No. 10 Will Surprise You!
It's great to see recognition. It will be interesting to see the team respond to expectations.
Any list with LOLVA nineteen spots behind the Hokies is an excellent list in my opinion.
Not just that, but we're the highest rated school in Virginia and North Carolina. Never thought I'd see that, though it isn't an official poll. We've come a long way since just the James Johnson era, let alone when I was going there in the early 90s.
Even better, UVA and Tennessee are way down in the "next in line" section. Author does admit that having us at 10 is because he personally is high on us, but I think this group of guys with this coach is built for a Sweet 16 run if we can clean some things up. Focus on tightening up the passing in the half court and getting Keve out of his own head and this team is gonna beat the fucking brakes off some teams.
Do we know this, or is the author just assuming?
Bede is going to be GA for us next year. However, I don't know about NCAA rules about this but if we get a rash of injuries at the guard position, can he be a walk-on for us next year?
#10 is not high. It's right in the range we should be entering next season.
Honestly #10 seems about right for us right now. We have a lot of very good players coming back to make a solid well rounded team. We have a team that is ready to play next year.
The problem is that there are big name teams below us right now (Duke, UNC, ugly blue and orange teams) because they have holes from players graduating and assumed to be going pro. They will fill those holes with big time transfer players which will shoot them past us while we may get lucky and get one bench contributor.
We will probably end up being ranked between 15-25 by the time the dust settles would be my guess. I'm happy with that.
10 is too high. We were a top 30 to 40 program this year by any real poll. ACC won't suck as bad two years in a row. We will be in the top 25 ish range and that is still ahead of schedule.
What makes you think we only competed well this year in the ACC because it sucked?
Generally your record is better when your competition is weaker. I am not trying to be negative here, the team is ahead of schedule. It wasn't top 25 this year though in reality and I don't think it will be top ten next year.
We too high by about 9-10 spots

That might be worth throwing a few shekels at, fanduel here we come...
Pretty cool, though these rankings are meaningless since we don't even know what rosters will look like, with the portal and all.
Hoping to see the team play in person at Cassell, assuming it's safe and allowed.
While #10 certainly feels high, I can't look at anyone #11 or lower on that list that is 100% better than us 10 games out of 10.
Is there anyone who doubts whether we're a basketball school now?
We're not a basketball school until the "Basketball Forum" link makes it into the Top 3 forum links listed on the Forum page.
I always enjoy a Top 10 ranking next to our logo, no matter what sport it is, but when he says: "I'm high on this team."
This is a classic "Announcer's Curse"
I would rather be unranked and beat the brakes off teams that aren't expecting it than go out and under perform when we have super high expectations.
I'll see you all in Cassell come November, I'll be the guy hopefully saying: "Alright, I was wrong."
Mike Young has consistently made me say those words since he arrived at VT, and I couldn't be happier for being wrong.
