Watching his tape right now - going to be a project but potential is there. Good athlete, good arm strength, tough as nails, needs to tighten delivery and throw a more consistent ball. What stands out most is his poise in the pocket and scanning the field for his second and third options. Signals to me he's a high IQ player who doesn't get rattled which is an excellent base to work from as potential QB or if a position change is in his future.

Some of you guys joke about the "Hard, Smart, Tough" mantra but he actually fits it to a T IMHO.

needs to tighten delivery and throw a more consistent ball

why is it so hard for VT to find a QB who can throw the ball? We have a bunch of QBs who can run it but we can't get one to throw it consistently and that boggles my mind. Our coaches invested a ton in the WR room but they can't find someone to get them the ball so they transfer out or fail to produce.

Anyway, I hope he stays committed and is able to develop into a consistent passer. We badly need one

From watching his highlights, he seems like a pass-first guy. The highlight film was probably 5-to-1 passing to running plays. And when forced to scramble, he would buy time and pass. I don't think I saw him take off on a scramble. He did pull off a "3rd and Logan" power run a few times though.

Edit: Looking at his stats though, he definitely runs a lot and was pretty successful at it. Rushing stats are 926 yards, 8.1 ypc, 15 TDs, and 2 fumbles lost. His passing stats are 55.4% completion, 1403 yards, 10 TDs and 7 interceptions. So, the stats back-up your point, but the highlight film is definitely selected to make him look like more of a passer.

there's a big difference between deciding to throw the ball and throwing the ball effectively. If he's not afraid to throw it but he can't throw it with any consistency that's likely to result in more interceptions than anything else. I'm not sure which is worse. A QB who will scramble and take a sack because they don't want to throw the ball or a QB who will throw it up haphazardly and get picked off 10+ times in a season

High school coaches, particularly at smaller schools, tend to put their most athletic player at QB in order to guarantee their having the ball on every play, thus there are far more athletes at the QB position who have underdeveloped passing games.

As far as demographics are concerned, Sachse, TX is similar to Fluvanna County in that both have about 26,500 people, to give you an idea of size.

Also - appears that he's friends with 4* TX WR Jay Fair who is being actively recruited by VT as well.

Okay, as someone who is relentlessly positive about the Hokies (sometimes annoyingly so), seeing a highly rated Texas QB signing and potentially bringing a good receiver with him scares the ever-living shit out of me.

In a more realistic, less Chokie view - the dude looks like a legit dual threat QB (11th in the nation and probably rising as he was just rated Top 300 by ESPN) who if he figures out his mechanics could be a stud. Like a higher ceiling/higher floor Tahj Bullock to me. I'm all in on competition between Farrell and Orji for the future.

Pretty liberal use of the term "highly rated".

STICK IT IN!
STICK IT IN!
STICK IT IN!

he meant "rated in the high hundreds"

can we not bitch about a recruit's ranking in their commitment post/thread?

these are high school kids reaching a big mile stone and people are complaining because the magic internet points associated with the 16 year old aren't high enough

my post was TIC. I'm not complaining about it. I'm happy that he is interested in the Hokies. I'm not sold on his ability to throw but he's obviously an athlete that can help us. I'll be more excited when he signs on the dotted line. I don't put much stock in "commitments" until the paperwork is signed. People decommit all. the. time.

He was highly rated by ESPN, which will probably raise his 247 composite score into the 4* territory whenever they do their next update. But yeah, we should stop going after Top 300 guys on ESPN, it's bad for the team and site morale.

I have him highly rated.

Yea this is a shitpost... Top 300 on ESPN, if he signs he will be the highest rated signee since doug nester, just shy of four stars on 247 the spring after his junior season, Top 10 rated dual QB nationally. Take your bullshit elsewhere that's a DV from me.

Wait a minute player. Kid a good athlete but I don't see him as a 300 QB rn unless his passing approves. I'm 70% positive he won't play a college snap a QB unless it's as a single wing play

Also to be fair im gonna tell the other guy that said "highly ranked" something. Hes a highly recuirt for us we been landing with a lot of 84-85 compostite ranked recuirts that a .88 compostite is pretty high for us

Also he only needs slight bumps from 247 and rivals to get to a composite 4 star

In 2010 there was a kid that was ranked 353 in the nation.... I would have loved for Beamer and Foster to get him to spurn Pitt and come to Blacksburg... I know it's rare but some kids out perform their rankings.... that kid was Aaron Donald....

Bro that was 11 years ago things change a bit

all im saying is that the one commenter said he was ESPN 300 and aprimus said "i dont see him as ESPN 300" and well actually it's not up to aprimus whether he is or not.... he is in fact an ESPN 300 player

When have we used espn for recuirts? 247 is the only one worth paying attention too

I will say if 247 was baseing him on an athlete he would be a 87-88 already

Another thing. I would love to see Orji running the single wing at giles😂 he would run for 3500 yards and score 50 touchdowns😂

ESPN has him in the Top 300. You saying "i dont see it that way" is the same as someone saying "he's a 247 in-house 4*" and you saying "I dont see it that way".

It's objective.

I got ya. I don't see him as a top 300 as a QB I can see it as a athlete

It's just a weird thing to say, because it implies that you are evaluating him against the other players rated inside and outside the top-300. Unless you have your own evaluation system, how do you know where he would fall? It'd be one thing to say you don't agree with his rating, but unless you're specifically saying that his rating should be below the number #300 rated recruit (do you know what that is?) it's just a strange comment.

I'm saying he's a good athlete but he aint no QB. If i was basing it off what position he is. He would be top 300 player as an athlete as a QB I would put him around 500-550. Looking at his highlights passing wise got me gonna ehhh a lot. Needs to stop throwing the ball off balance if he does that in college hes throwing 25 picks a season. Personally I think he can thrive at the position Dalton played at here. He has the size and hands for it

ESPN is used in 247s composite, and the positional determination is a whole mix of things, hence guys like Jack Hollifield and Braden Moore have different positions listed when you click on different parts of the profile.

Now that 247 has been updated to include ESPN, Orji is a .88 borderline .89 QB - so ESPN might not matter, but it might, and it's all semantics anyway and we should just be happy we got the guy we did.

But espn rated him as an athlete

I hear you but I don't think our goal should be to emulate Pitt and have a team full of average D-1 players with a rare diamond in the rough.

I'm always going to love and support any kid who choses the Hokies, but we should be aiming way higher than we are at the moment (this is not a comment that is directly related to Alex Orji - I'm glad he is a Hokie!).

Is coronavirus over yet?

My dude, a three star QB with those passing stats shouldn't get you that excited. I'm happy he's (at the moment) planning to go to VT. I would be more excited about him as an athlete than as someone expected to air it out in today's modern offenses.

As far as the downvotes I don't get why you think an adult would be concerned about what someone on the internet thinks about a post. Downvote to your hearts content and I hope it provides you with a sense of satisfaction for a few seconds.

Needs to improve on his passing. 11 TDS to 7 ints is ehh but at least he has a year to improve that

It never fails to blow my mind that such a physically dexterous human being can dance this poorly.

He's the Elaine Benes of action stars.

You're the only ones that I can talk to about this, you guys.

To be fair he was supposed to be drunk off his ass in that scene...

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:

Who's gonna tell him he can't wear #10?

I like the Texas part. Hopefully he works on those mechanics before he gets here.

LOL excellent use

Orji has two older brothers who play linebacker at Vanderbilt right now, any chance they jump ship after the season to play with their brother?

One's a senior, the other is a junior. The younger of the two is a starting lb who led the team in tackles as a soph. Looks like he has three years of eligibility left with a covid year.
If we do indeed sign Alex, I could see him transferring to the good guys. Hell, I could see him transferring even if we don't.

I mean we are looking for lb depth. Also looking for a transfer DE

Yeah, but where does he fall on the FIREDC scale of Happiness?

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

-8/10. It's the best score they've ever given 😆

Can we just be happy that we have a commitment from a guy with 9 other P5 offers? I know the naysayers will argue "but were they committable?" It doesn't matter because he committed to us

1-0 every week

Orjis > Hookers

I don't think we need multiple Orjis. However, if he can bring some of his friends to the Orji show at VT, I won't complain.

What will the Tech administration do when 60,000 HOKIE fans start chanting
ORJi, ORJI, ORJI?

Is that better or worse than "Stick it In!"

They will get letters from alumni like "I know that is his name, but why does he have to pronounce it like that?" That also talk about pulling their generous donations of $50 a year. Then those letters will be leaked and Fuente will be pissed because he wants to protect his players more than anything, but he will say the wrong thing and make the perceived situation worse. Then Whit steps in and ups the ante of stupidity in press conferences so much so that Vegas now has odds on whether Fuente and Whit are betting on whose press conferences are worse, thus Vega files FIOA requests to find out. Meanwhile Orji ignores the noise and goes one to have one of the best seasons any hokie has ever had because he's awesome!

But if it makes Vegas keep having us favored by 10 points or more we are screwed.

Did he say Orji is oozing with potential??

So what position will he play if he is 70% not a QB? We dont really need more RBs right? Right?

I hate rude behavior in a man. Won't tolerate it.

He played WR as a freshman. He is also very fast, and can jump high --see the video I posted above at his track meet. If QB don't work, I would expect WR is his future.

Glad to see he is 110% committed. Let's keep it under 800% until after early signing day.

Huzzah! Pretty good offer list too
