Interesting. Who will Miami hire to replace him? They always go on the cheap.

Not a bad idea. Bobby Petrino maybe?

The Dude Abides

I always imagined Petrino would be taking London's job at some point.

I'm sure they have plenty of back roads for motorcycles.

I imagine a kazoo playing Pomp and Circumstances.

Interesting...I assumed they would at least wait to learn the fate of Munchak.

...So let's get ahead of ourselves and play the "what-if" game...

Who becomes the front runners for the Canes HC Job?

Al Groh?

Lol. That would be awesome.

There would be no greater dagger to my heart than to lose Bud to Miami.

"Exit light..."

I would have to give up on football, and perhaps sports entirely.

CollegeFootballTalk posted quotes from CaneSport: http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/01/03/report-al-golden-off....

The site wrote that "Golden's representatives were working out the final details with Penn State on Friday afternoon." According to previous reports, Golden and Penn State were set to meet about the Nittany Lions vacancy at some point today.

There has been no official word from any parties involved regarding this development.

"Miami officials were laying the groundwork for a coaching search Friday while awaiting final word from Golden on his decision," CaneSport.com wrote in lieu of official word from The U side.

Meanwhile, David Jones, a columnist for The Harrisburg Patriot-News is reporting that no offer has been made.

This should be fun.

These coaching carousels are so fun!

He's so gone. Schiano to Miami sounds about right as well.

As wisec4g mentioned above, CaneInsider reported he's staying and it might be a power play to get raises for Golden and his staff.

http://www.caneinsider.com/?p=12499

CaneInsider has learned that Al Golden spoke to a source inside the Miami Hurricanes' football program and said emphatically, "I'm not leaving," earlier today. The source requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the current situation.

CaneINsider believes that coach Golden is committed to finishing the work he started at Miami based on the characterizing of the sources comments. Golden is set to close this year's 2014 recruiting class, which his widely seen as top 10 by all recruiting services and stay in Miami where his family has found a home. Something he's said on numerous occasions previously.

Though highly attractive to Penn State, Golden may be using this opening in State College as a chance to increase his salary at Miami for himself and his staff. Miami coaches are in the bottom third of salaries nationally, in college football according to a source.

The source also indicated that Golden communicated directly with the staff issuing a firm directive to continue to recruit the current class with the understanding that he will remain the head coach.

Personally, I hope he stays. He's provided us some good competition the last few years. I know he has ties back there, but what does that say about #goacc if he digs Miami out from under sanctions just to go somewhere else with more sanctions. Is PSU that much better of a destination than Miami?

Isn't he a PSU alum? I think for him, it is. You don't want to be the guy to follow Paterno, so there is the barrier already there.

The Dude Abides

I don't see why he would leave for PSU. It just seems like a lateral move, maybe even a demotion. PSU has been irrelevant for a while now and has been tarnished by the Sandusky scandal as well. So yeah, Golden isn't leaving the talent rich Miami for PSU unless they offer him a ton of money.

He coached at PSU in the late 90's, and at one time the PSU job would have been worlds ahead of the Miami job.

Bigger, Faster, STRONGER...BUILT TO HIT

I dunno, PSU even during the sanctions has consistantly sold out their huge stadium while Miami barely fill theirs. I think it is quite an upgrade. Besides they have a good qb, something that Miami doesn't have right now

Our motto bringing spirit true, that we may ever serve you

To quote Bear Bryant: "Momma called. And when Momma calls, you just have to come runnin'."

But in reality, if you look at Golden's coaching history, all his stops have been somewhere that was really crappy to start, and he built up into a lot better program before he left.
1. Before he became a HC at Temple, they were 3-31 the 3 years preceding. While he remains only 27-34, his penultimate year he gets a division title, and is at least 2 wins over .500
2. We all know the Miami situation, so he comes in there, and rails off 3 .500 or better seasons, including a technical Coastal division title. Also, navigates them out of the sanctions (due to NCAA blundering), and still recruits well.

For all we know he could be a guy who likes challenges in fixing programs. But a good bet would be still power play for $$$
