Yep, been looking to this one for a while. Nice run there by Tajh to open the scoring. Could be a back-and-forth kind of game.

"Exit light..."

These unsportsmans-like calls are getting a little silly. I get it if you call someone for acting like ThugU, but I have no problem with a little Superman.

My wife looked over to me after that one and said, "What was the penalty? Do these rule-makers just hate fun, or what?"

Taunting - flag it. Minor celebration during a bowl game - let the guys play.

"Exit light..."

i agree with you but they don't take kindly to 'throat slash' gestures...I can't really say i blame them..if they allowed those types of gestures it could escalate to something more serious and offensive...who knows

Onward and upward

They took some creative license to interpret that as a throat slash.

it's a double throat slash...the OU receiver who caught the first TD pass against Bama last night used a similar move and was also penalized..so at least the refs are consistent. He has both thumbs extended so it's implied it's a double throat slash. I thought the OU player actually did a better job trying to mask the move as a "superman" gesture because he had his hands closer to his chest and didn't pull his hands out wider than his shoulders.

but all of this is irrelevant. I think the players should be allowed to have fun but they know what they can and can't do as far as what will be penalized. It's a dumb penalty by vic beasly who doesn't exactly have a clean track record anyway. (IIRC he punched somebody and was ejected from a game earlier this season)

Onward and upward

They called the Oklahoma player last night for a "throat slash" when he pretty clearly had both hands on his numbers doing the Superman.

Is getting a little silly

Look, I was rooting for OU and I'm rooting against OSU but if you look at both gestures from a completely unbiased point of view they both were subtle 'double throat slash' gestures. Subtle!! I don't agree with the way the players are being censored but I'm certain they've been briefed on what types of post play celebrations will draw a flag. I think both players were playing with fire by trying to be subtle (vic do a lesser degree) but they knew what they were doing.

Onward and upward

I thought Beasly was doing the Superman shirt-rip. I don't like the throat-slash (I consider that taunting), but Superman is a celebration of strength.

"Exit light..."

if he kept his thumbs closed then yeah he would be in the clear, but he had his thumbs extended and that implied a double throat slash. Like I said, he tried cleverly to disguise the move as a superman move. It didn't fool the refs and if you look at the close up slo-mo you can see it was a subtle double throat slash.

Onward and upward

I would like to reiterate: this is getting a little silly. We need slow mo to determine the difference between a superman and a throat slash? Who cares? There should be a line, but I don't think this or OU crossed it.

My take on this:

NCAA - "These college students appear to be having fun on the football field! Look, that young man just made a nice play, and is now expressing his excitement! Are we paying these people to have fun and be excited??? What's that? We're not paying them at all? Then they can't have fun! How preposterous!"

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm just trying to put myself in the shoes of the ref and looking at it HONESTLY..and from a completely unbiased perspective I could definitely see how the refs would see a 'double throat slash' gesture. But as I've said multiple times already, I disagree with punishing players for having a little fun and celebrating a big play in a big game. I'm not defending the rule, but both gestures looked like throat slashes to me..and I'm rooting for both teams from which the penalized players were from (OU, Clemson), so it's not like I'm looking at those plays through crimson(bama or osu) shades.

Onward and upward

vic beasly is an idiot..can you imagine how much momentum that dumb penalty cost clemson? it could be 14-0 right now instead of 7-7

Onward and upward

is this the same Ohio State team that claimed they would "wipe the floor with both Alabama and Florida State"?

Onward and upward

So Ohio State apparently doesn't like having their defense on the field

If I were Chip Kelly I would have a certain Hampton QB on my radar.

Oooo I think he'd do so well in Kelly's system. That being said, if I'm Kelly I'm perfectly happy with Foles after this season. I know he's unlikely to fall to the Eagles but Sammy Watkins is the number one guy I go after if I'm Chip Kelly.

So far the only thing I got from this thread was what implies a throat slash as opposed to a slash-my-shirt-open (superman). Fascinating :)

Am I the only one who wants to see OSU lose just to knock them down another notch? I get so tired of listening to all these "analysts" go crazy about the same schools over and over. I was so glad when MSU beat them.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

Gee, Boyd only decided to try and float that ball to his receiver with only about 8 tOSU players around him. Maybe he should have waited a little longer so all 11 defenders could be in on the party.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

This has got to be one of the weirdest scores I've ever seen in a football game

Getting touchdowns is easy, PATs are hard, apparently.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

I'm probably gonna get downvoted to hell for this but I just can't resist..... Just ask CoJo about how hard getting PATs is

Braxton makes me miss Tyrod. Is this what Tyrod could have been if he went to Florida?

"Let's throw a flag so we can explain that there is no flag" - AAC Refs.

Reflecting at the half: I think that this game is a classic example of what people say about both teams. OSU is winning, but its boring. Clemson was leading handily, and found a way to Clemson and let OSU take the lead before the half. I think the Sugar Bowl was a Chipotle burrito; and this game is more like a cold pizza. I'm still gonna watch, but I won't be as satisfied.

The Dude Abides

damn if this game is cold pizza what is a VT game? I mean, let's be honest, I love VT but the games aren't really what I would categorize as exciting. I love great defense, and defense is 'boring'. And, unfortunately, our offense has been pedestrian for the last several years...so that doesn't yield 'exciting' games

Onward and upward

These referee's are swinging towards Ohio State.... Ugh. C'mon Clemson!

Clemson's secondary is laughably bad right now. Seems like any time their front 7 holds up, they give up 10 yards and a first down through defensive holding or PI anyways.

It feels weird to support a team that actually gets calls once in a while

It's certainly not over yet, but Clemson is start to Clemson this game.

Wow.... Sammy freakin' Watkins. Dude is one heck of a football player.

Looks to me like he's playing at a higher level than what he normally does and he's enjoying his last audition before the NFL.

"Exit light..."

It's amazing what momentum will do for you.

WHAT A CATCH!

Back in it now. Crazy game.

No likey Dabo, Urban, or hearing Katy Perry singing Roar at every commercial break at which Clemmons is winning. Not sure why I'm still watching, but at least it's competitive.

Class of '02. GO HOKIES!

"Sideline interference"?

Good grief these referee's are grasping at straws for penalties, aren't they?

We don't like tOSU in this house...

It happens constantly, but is rarely called. I haven't seen the reason they called it, but Clemson really is doing everything they can to try to throw the game away via penalties.

"Exit light..."

Wow, #20 from Clemson is really playing poorly (putting it very nicely). Dude's been singlehandedly responsible for 3 OSU scores on blown coverages.

Hell of a play by Miller. He's carving up Clemson's secondary, even when under pressure and taking a beating.

"Exit light..."

Does anyone else think Clemsoning and the refs are the only things keeping the Buck-nuts in the game?

Thoughts on either of the 2 hits by #33 on Miller? Dirty or not?

Class of '02. GO HOKIES!

First one clean, second one borderline. You could tell he was going for a body slam on the second one, which could be crossing the line a bit.

"Exit light..."

1st one was borderline (I thought they'd flag it, but I'm not terribly surprised they didn't) and the 2nd one was a good call. Not necessarily dirty, but I thought the commentator did a good job explaining how the extra driving into the ground is what draws the flag.

Both seemed fine to me. It's football not 7-on-7. The second one was borderline late though.

Hope Sammy doesn't end up with a serious injury playing hurt. The Browns need him a full 16 games next year. Yes, I am a Browns fan. No, it's not because I enjoy heartache and suffering.

Class of '02. GO HOKIES!

Eric Metcalf or Webster Slaughter?

I'll take Webster Slaughter, edge to a badass name. This year we'll finally draft that franchise QB, promise! Unless it's Johnny Manziel, then I quit.

Class of '02. GO HOKIES!

Good call. Just sent this to my pops who is a Browns fan:

Cycle of browns

Hope you're right about the QB. Maybe he'll be the next Bernie Kosar.

Seems like MV7 needs a starting gig. This would make me happy, and playing for the Dawg Pound should complete his cycle of redemption.

Class of '02. GO HOKIES!

Ha... good one.

Not allowed. Sammy and Josh Gordon as your WR's would be ridiculous. Throw Hoyer the Destroyer in there and boom, might as well hand you the division.

That again was a bad call. The ball clearly was over the line.

Ugh... commentator got it right. JUST THROW IT TO HIM!

I swear to god if this guy does not stop saying "buckaroo"...

"The Big Ten is always using excuses to cancel games with us. First Wisconsin. Then Wisconsin. After that, Wisconsin. The subsequent cancellation with Wisconsin comes to mind too. Now Penn State. What's next? Wisconsin?" -HorseOnATreadmill

Anyone else think that maybe Miller shouldn't have been in on that series? He's been in visible pain for the last couple drives.

"Exit light..."

I hate Dabo Swinney but I hate Ohio State much more. This is becoming a problem.

I went to get a snack, did they call a uniform penalty yet?

Class of '02. GO HOKIES!

This might become the mother of all Clemsons!

How do you make that play call Dabo?

That should seal the deal for Clemson unless they do something really dumb.

Clemson has seemed like the superior team (at least athletically speaking) all night to me.

Guy from Clemson never had control on that pick

Why no review? I bet if that was a WR it would be ruled incomplete.

Class of '02. GO HOKIES!

But man Dabo's teams can be sloppy.

I really didn't have a preference to who won this game, but it was good for the ACC, so good job Clemson

"We're the first team from the state of South Carolina to win a BCS bowl"

That was a burn towards South Carolina and the SEC. :P

As little as I normally like Dabo, I'm kinda really OK with this.

No one has trolled Dabo and Clemson like the OBC. Remember his comment "at least we're not Clemson" and Sweeney's response tantrum?

funny

Remove the football and you've got a pretty funny set-up for a good meme.

Great win for the ACC! Hate to say it going to be cheering for FSU too to win the NCG it hurts but it feels like the right thing to do...

-Semper Primus

I feel no pain cheering for Free Shoes. It takes the crown from the SEC in the last BCS MNCG and every time the SEC loses a non-conference game it makes me happy.

You're not the only one!

Man, I must have missed all the Miller good plays. I watched the very beginning, and the end, and he didn't show anything special passing wise.

At least Bud has plenty time to scheme up a defense with a mobile qb for once. I bet it will help to hopefully have RVD back.

Chick Patty w/ Cheese

Cheers to handing OSU its third straight loss.

2nd straight loss

Now THAT'S how you run WR screens. Great athlete, good blocking, 7-12 yards a pop. That was fun to watch. I could see us using an athlete like Parker that way in the near future. Now, comparing anyone to Sammy Watkins is pretty unfair, but still, I like the idea of a quick guy taking an easy pass and getting a chance to make something happen in space. I know lots of us have a slighty irrational hatred of any sort of WR screen, but for a team that may have issues running the ball and an inexperienced QB next year, that might be a good part of our offense.

Too bad we have to have WR's that block........oh wait, we do now.
Thanks, Morehead.

Wish we could have gotten Stephone Anthony to commit. Guy looks like a beast

That was eating at me all game. We were so close to having a really good one...

Both teams at one point or another tried their best to give the game away. Hope the ACC keeps this up, because I refuse to embrace basketball.
