Clemson transfer Lynn Kidd has committed to Virginia Tech. Originally a 2021 recruit who reclassed up and joined Clemson last August. I thought he showed some good improvement when I watched him last summer. Should develop well at VT. Gives them size at 6'10" 235.@thekeyplay pic.twitter.com/smk8GDY2LH— Trent Markwith (@TMarkwith14) May 18, 2021
Former 4 star out of Florida had received an offer from the Hokies before committing to Clemson in 2020.

Good gracious, Landry Jones. Have a day!
Didn't play much at Clemson (33 min over 7 games), so not much to go on there, but from July, 2020:
Listed at 220 out of HS, 230 on the Clemson site, and 235 in this tweet. Free year of strength and conditioning at Clemson. During a year where he was still slated to be a HS senior! I'll take it! Looking forward to his development with our staff!
Makes sense - if you're 6'10" and skilled, chances are you're not going to play more than two years tops in the NCAA. Some more physical development, more skill development, and he could be the next big piece for us.
Four star composite ranking of 0.9559 a year ago THAT'S A CENTER? Yes please. I don't even care about his stats at Clemson. I'm happy we got a talented big man.
This dude isn't immediately eligible to play yet is he? Or did that NCAA change go through and I missed it? It would be really nice to get Kidd and Aluma on the floor at the same time....
I think the change went through and he should be eligible. Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but I think he's good to go. Although we know how tricky transfers to VT are.

Thanks for the info! Kidd, Aluma, and N'Guessan will be one hell of a UNIT under the rim.
I think the NCAA approved the 1-transfer-free rule.
But even if they haven't, they have definitely approved a COVID-19 no-sit transfer this offseason
If he's coming to Blacksburg, he better learn quick about that ~Exit Light...~

Perfect, simply perfect.
SIR, but is he related to Jason?
No, but fun fact; he's the founder of this well-known hotel chain:

Fuckin' right!
We're totally in full transition to basketball school
#ClemsontoVT pipeline confirmed!
Cuck Flemson!
How much of an impact is he going to have? Just quickly looking at the box score from Clemson's tournament game against Rutgers - he was a DNP and it looks like three upperclassmen and PJ Hall (all of whom are smaller than him) were ahead of him in the rotation.
That being said, he looks like he reclassified from '21 to '20 so he should have been an HS senior this year...and I mean it's never bad to be a 4*+ out of high school. I guess a ton of untapped potential is there.
Is he an upgrade from Ojiako? Can he play 20+ minutes at the 5 so we can shift Aluma to the 4 and Mutts to the 3? I don't know enough to draw any conclusions.
At 6-10, 235, he's basically the same size as Aluma (6-9, 235) and 10 pounds lighter than Ojiako (6-10, 245). We could occasionally see a split between Ojiako and Kidd at the 5, but depending on their development, I suspect Ojiako will see more floor time in 21-22 because he's had an extra year of collegiate-level s&c. And that's not even taking into account N'Guessan who's made great strides in a short time. I love Kidd's ceiling, though. With that frame and talent, he could absolutely be a star at VT.
Is Virginia Tech considered tall now? We could legitimately put out a line up with 3 players at 6'-9" or 6'-10" in addition to Mutts at 6'-7".
IF Aluma and Ojiako are both on the roster when the season starts, sure. But it's VT hoops. I don't count my roster chickens this early.
...and Boots, who is going to make plays over you no matter how tall you are. We certainly have a lot more length on the roster than we're used to.
Yep that's what I was thinking. It won't be the lineup, but we could trot out Radford, Mutts, Aluma, N'Guessan, and Ojiako/Kidd. Swap in Alleyne if we need a shooter. He is still 6'-5".
Kidd probably gonna redshirt imo
That lineup would be a disaster IMO. I don't know why you would play 4 post players when there is only room for 2 on a basketball court. Plus the only guard in your lineup scores almost all his points inside the arc, so he would have no room to operate due to a congested paint area filled with both offensive and defensive players.
You need multiple shooters on the court to win games in 2021 and that lineup doesn't have any. Not to mention being able to matchup with perimeter players on defense.
Your recipe to win games IMO is to have 3-4 scoring guards who can shoot, supplemented by 1-2 rebounding bigs who can play defense on the court at all times. Look at Baylor and almost any other team to have success in March in recent years (IMO 2020-21 Baylor is the most perfectly constructed college basketball team in recent history).
Mutts could potentially be shifted to a wing if he can improve a lot of aspects of his perimeter game, but I don't see that as a full time move. Even with Murphy-Radford-Mutts-Aluma-center, the paint would be too congested.
Yeah, the lineup calculus is going to be a hodgepodge all season because our top five players don't really fit together. I think this is how it's going to shake out:
Starting 5: Murphy-Alleyne-Mutts-Aluma-Ojiako
Rotation: Cattoor-Boots-N'Guessan-Kidd (Boots becomes a super sub and probably gets more minutes than Murphy or Alleyne)
Deep Bench/Redshirt: Padulla-Maddox-???-???
Closing Unit: Murphy-Alleyne-Radford-Mutts-Aluma (and just pray we're good defensively)
Look at this Kidd!
Replacement Big Man for Durr. Young was NOT Kidding.
