For those in the NOVA area still looking for a new graphics card and have the means necessary - I was just at Microcenter an hour ago and they had 4 RTX 3080Ti cards in stock. The clerk working that area had to re-assure me that I wasn't seeing things and that there were indeed there, and for sale... for $1600 ea.

I've been playing nothing but the Mass effect trilogy legendary edition. It's been really great to go back to this universe again. Also it comes with all of the DLC, so I'm experiencing some Mass effect content for the first time which is super exciting.

I like how the trailer is full of little homages to all the infuriating crazy bullshit we used to do on servers and get banned.
128 player maps! Hopefully they go back to their roots and tone down the arcadey shit they've been doing for the past couple. I hope it moves toward a faster paced less milsimmy ArmA. That way I can just pop in and play a few games without the commitment or the BS of KotH mode.

Elden Ring just got a trailer drop, looks like dark souls with some george rr martin infusion, hope its not all weiners like his books are.
Battlefield looks odd never been a big fan of future shooters but I love battlefield. Interesting how on consoles itll be $70 and on PC $60 considering it has no campaign or BR.
Loving Valhalla so far 55 hours in and probably not near halfway even as I'm doing everything in a zone before moving on and its so much fun. Wish they had more armor and weapon variants and a one handed sword but oh well, great story and fun game.

I played parts of Mass Effect (1) on Xbox 360 but never finished it and never played any of the other games. Picked up the Trilogy on PC and just finished 1. The final mission and ending was pretty sweet! Now on to ME2.
My biggest complaint about 1 is that the game reused so many assets that so many areas looked the same as others and it also made finding your way around some locations really confusing because everything looked the same. The game definitely showed its age in that regard.

I'm going to follow up with Bioshock 2 when I'm finished, but really I'm only doing it so I can get to Infinite. I remember 2 not being nearly as good as the original.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Two just didn't match the same atmosphere/aesthetic as the original. Infinite was closer but the story got a little weird for my tastes. Still a phenomenal series.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Recently played bioshock 1 and had fun with it. Bit short but I had to remind myself the current 100+ hour games these days are special and I constantly forget how short the older games were. Still had fun and will eventually play 2 and infinite when I get that horror itch.

You know its funny you say that, as I just had this conversation with my gf when she asked why I liked playing horror games after watching me play Bioshock for a spell. I've only ever played through a couple of horror games, The Evil Within being the most recent (so take this as a very uneducated opinion). I wouldn't really call Bioshock a horror game. It absolutely has horror elements and a few jump scares, but it doesn't have that feeling of existential dread throughout. I run around rapture actively taking in all the sights while being completely unafraid of any of the baddies running around since I only die if I get lazy. I feel like a true horror game leaves you on edge at all times while making ammo scarce and bad guys really tough to kill in an environment that perpetuates all those feelings of dread.

I'm fine with multi-player only in most games, because that's how is spend time with friends. But I'm also some one that that hates story. Let me play the game, if I wanted a movie, I'd go watch a movie.

I'm that way with most shooters but not Halo the story there is always top notch and makes me want more. That said the multiplayer for halo is also legit which makes me love it more. BF2042 is probably going to be a pass for me as I'm not big on futuristic stuff like this game has.

Didnt get to watch much of E3 this year again and cant say it sounds like much was missed in the way of major announcements due to Covid most projects are simply pushed back it seems. Gonna look into the Starfield bit but again bethesda doesnt bring alot of new stuff up and I wonder if we will ever see ES6 or if its a big long joke and itll be skyrim special edition 2.

Kicking myself in the ass for not buying a 1660 Ti last fall when they were still reasonably priced. As it is, my 7870 is now 9 generations old and new games are pretty much out of reach until I upgrade. When that'll be...who knows?
BF2042 looks pretty interesting though. 1942 was obviously the best and Battlefield2 pretty good as well. Definitely prefer that series over the constant COD refreshes.

I'm absolutely obsessed with the new Chivalry game. One of the best MP sequels in years. Takes what the first does and makes it better. New mechanics and still keeps the feeling of absolute chaos the first did.
Plus it's always fun when you get to have a "Butcher of Blavakin" moment and cut and dance through like 10 people in 30 seconds.

Lots of smoke billowing around a rumor that EA is going to announce a return of an established IP at an event in July, and the major rumors right now are that they are bringing back Dead Space.
I would personally love it if they could manage to do it right. The first two games were as close to perfection as it got, and the thought of reintroducing that universe in the PS5/XSX/PC world definitely has my interest piqued. There definitely seems to be some merit to this, as there were some whispers a month or so ago that it could return given the success of the Mass Effect remaster.

Only found this out yesterday while I was looking into these rumors, but apparently the guy who headed Dead Space for Visceral Games started a new company, Striking Distance, and they are set to come out with a new game for consoles next year, The Callisto Protocol. Lets just say from the trailer, it looks heavily influenced by Dead Space, if not acting as a bit if a sequel to it.

I might be in the minority opinion here, but i'm less than enthused in general with Blizzard. They need some original IP soon because they are getting stagnant. Not counting Overwatch (which in my opinion was a copycat multiplayer shooter that can trace its roots back to Quake and Half-Life), Blizzard hasn't developed anything *new* since Starcraft in '99. These remakes (throw in Warcraft III, Starcraft, WoW Classic) to their credit look fantastic, and continue to keep the money rolling in, but I've grown tired of the storylines... Starcraft - hey, we missed a couple and the Zerg are back... Warcraft - there's another titan that we just found out about and we have to fight again to save the world.... Diablo - um, Diablo's back, we can't seem to kill this guy.
That said - for anyone that hasn't played these through you owe it to yourself to buy/play because each one of these (the exception being warcraft III reforged) are masterpieces.

Picked up Iron Harvest, Planet Coaster, Railway Empire, Surviving Mars, Borderlands 2, and Half Life 2 in the summer sale. I did not realize Iron Harvest is Scythe (my favorite board game) in RTS form. I love this.

If you enjoy this game, check out Per Aspera. It's similar but more about the story aspect, I've played through it quite a couple times already.
I got Outer Wilds and Asseto Corsa in the summer sale. So far I'm enjoying Outer Wilds but haven't been fully immersed in it yet. It's fun and simple controls make it quick to pick up.

Just picked up Iron Harvest based on your description, I had over 600 hours in CoH2 and this seems like it is in a similar vein. Looking for some new game recs to play online with my friends. We've exhausted all the usuals that everyone plays and hit a standstill on finding something fun. Xbox players with GamePass.

Forza Horizon 4 is pretty good and you can all get together and form a convoy to play as you want, if you haven't already tried the game out, but I am assuming you have.

worth noting that Forza Horizon 5 is coming out in November and will be available day 1 on GamePass. So if you like FH4, keep that in mind for later.
Also, its been a little while since I started the game, but I think there are a few introductory events you need to complete before it opens up online play, but they don't take terribly long to accomplish.

It honestly just makes me wonder about their approach to market sensing and how they figured that this was an unsatisfied sector. I'm of the mindset (and have been) that the PC gaming arena is never going to buy-in to a portable platform unless said platform is customizable the same way that a PC is. This portable form factor has been tried multiple times with mixed (at best) results.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I dont see much issue here, I think this will have a decent market to pull from especially if you can use your steam library on it. Nice way to travel and still be able to access and play some games without having to lug your rig around.

It is kind of a weird device option. Gaming laptops can get expensive. BUT then again you can stream on your laptop from your desktop, provided it doesn't get turned off. I guess it really depends on the performance they get out of it since it doesn't have an OS overhead.
But it is an odd device from a 1000 ft view.

I am downloading Skyward Sword for the Switch as I type this. I cant explain why, but it was one of my favorite Zelda games. IIRC it takes place near or at the very beginning of the Zelda timeline, so I guess I like the thought that much of the lore is drawn from the time period. (And yes I am seriously trying to open a can of worms for discussion of the convoluted Zelda timeline lol!)

I wanted to love SS but it just didn't click with me when I first attempted to play it. Everything from the motion controls, to the story, to a different take on the relationships between characters seemed cool, but I stopped playing when real life happened (I moved) and I never went back to it.
Hopefully I'll have better luck with it on the Switch with all of the enhancements.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Hopefully playing with something like a pro-controller helps. I never hated the motion controls, but I can absolutely understand why people do. The "quality of life" enhancements they made to the game do seem promising. Hopefully the prologue to the game is quicker. I do remember it taking way too long.

Just imagine... Dead Space with 4k graphics and textures, ray tracing and 3d sound. If they keep the same creepy as hell (and undeniably awesome) background noise compilation this really could be an epic game. I would love to be working on this project, they could do so much cool with it in the current gen.

1 is great from a 'wtf is going on' mindset. 2 really built upon it, and you can tell they had a much larger budget to work with. And, lets be honest, the nursery level is one of the creepiest things I've ever seen.
The fact that they have twinkle twinkle little star playing in this trailer when it wasn't used until DS2 leads me to believe there might be a little bit more than just a remake. But even if its just a remake, doing it on the PS5/XBSX platform with a complete redesign of the graphics package should really make for an excellent game in its own right.

3 gets a bad rap, honestly. Is it as good as the first two, no, but its nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be. If you like the story around the necromorphs and the markers, its a good continuation. Even the 'microtransaction' thing that it gets railed for is very, very tame compared to microtransactions of nowadays.
I rather enjoyed the game, the co-op was pretty cool, especially that the two people didn't always see the same set of events playing out in real time, and the finger gun for completing New Game+ made it completely worth beating it twice.

Streets of Rage 4 and the Mr X Nightmare DLC are fantastic. I'm so happy that Dotemu and company did justice to this series and also made the pricing right on it too, for both the Game and the DLC.

About to finish up Bioshock after getting it through PS+. I hadn't played the game in probably 10 years and I can still say I highly recommend it.
The original bioshock is my favorite game of all time. So good.
I'm going to follow up with Bioshock 2 when I'm finished, but really I'm only doing it so I can get to Infinite. I remember 2 not being nearly as good as the original.

I don't consider bioshock a horror game, just a psychological game. It's not really scary, more unsettling.
I don't consider Bioshock to be a horror game either.
Now F.E.A.R. on the other hand, that one had me on the edge of my seat. Such a good game though.
new halo online trailer
Looks like they are borrowing grappling hooks from titanfall
Not to mention the multiplayer is going to be free on xbox I believe. Or you can pay $70 for an online multiplayer only BF2042.
I'm fine with multi-player only in most games, because that's how is spend time with friends. But I'm also some one that that hates story. Let me play the game, if I wanted a movie, I'd go watch a movie.

Look, master chief is a blunt object who's job is genocide, let me get to it! /s
I stopped playing battlefield games a while ago because they don't feel good to play. I just don't know how to git good.
That's a hard no from me. They lost the thread after Halo 3 and it only gets worse every iteration since.
Forza Horizon 5 due in early November.
Really got into FH4 over the past year, so this one has me excited

This is just a fantastic trailer
I don't know what Starfield is, but I must own it.
Maybe by the time the game comes out in Nov '22, we'll all finally have a new graphics card....

So, who's going in on that new Xbox Mini Fridge?
...I don't understand it.
Am hyped for Farcry 6, Battlefield, and FH5 though.
Probably not since I have a full sized fridge devoted to refreshments while playing games about 5 feet from the xbox. But it looks fantastic for those that want a fridge that looks like their refrigerator styled xbox series x.
I have a gaming room kind of away from the kitchen and I've been looking into one for a bit and this might actually fit the bill. Curious on pricing before though if reasonably priced I'll snag one.
I mean you'll always find something cheaper than this, but this complements the kfc console.
I did like the tagline "XBox and chill."
Oh I'm sure it will definitely not be as cheap as a walmart mini fridge but in a game room it might be worth it if the price is semi right.
New gameplay trailer for Breath of the Wild 2 out and man that has me excited.
I love the commitment MS has to Game Pass right now. Can't wait to finally play Hades once it hits the service. Darkest Dungeon finally became available last week and I love that game.
Hades is soooo good. I'm approaching 100 hours played in it.
Looks alot like Diablo in a sense to me. Might have to give it a whirl.
Big eShop sale going on for the switch through today. Some great deals on games. Even some first party stuff is marked down 20 bucks or so.
Played the Humankind Closed Beta because I have it preordered. It is definitely a CIV clone but I like the variation it brings with interesting mechanics, especially around battles.

New announcement trailer for Diablo 2 Resurrected with release date on it. I'll be sinking some time into that when it drops.
I might be in the minority opinion here, but i'm less than enthused in general with Blizzard. They need some original IP soon because they are getting stagnant. Yes, but it would be the most amazing insomnia ever
My friend loves VR and is praying it gets a VR release
Sweeeeet. Dead Space 1+2 are some of my favorite games ever. Never played 3.
Loved 2 the most but man 1 was fun but this is fun. I don't mind remakes personally like this to relive a great story
Anybody play Pokemon Unite on Switch yet? I downloaded it the other day and have had some fun with it.
I was watching people play it the other day and I got a little confused as to what kind of game it actually is.
can't you say that about every PokΓ©mon game?
Eh, the basic Pokemon games I get. Start with one, catch a bunch, beat all the gyms, become the champ.
I've seen it compared to League of Legends but haven't ever really played that game. It's got some short and helpful tutorials and is also free so it seemed fine with me to give it a shot.
I've never played league either, but from what I have seen it did look League-esque. Defending things and killing the other team
What to heck why didnt you tell me about this at all
You know now!
you let me guess about the gameplay and said "yes to those things" and then never splained further!
You got that right

I've jumped back into BF4 in preparation for BF2042. Anyone still play that? I'll run in a squad with ya.
