My DD on Memphis given that I've watched them every season I was at UH:
They're a fairly competitive team that can up their offense if they need to. They can adjust fairly well to an opponent. Under Hardaway, after throwing out the NCAA violations against their 5 star player, he's in kind of a hot seat this year.
On the flip side, they very much deserved an NCAA Tourney bid. They won the NIT last year and were fairly competitive in the AAC, which is a flip flop between being a strong and weak basketball conference. For the 2020-2021 season, they were fairly weak.
Oklahoma State, UH played in 2018 and 2019. Decimated them in 2018, then they did the same to us in 2019. that's all I really have, nothing much of it.
Mind updating heading to include "MENS BASKETBALL"? I realize it's under Basketball forum but off the main ticker will be easier to hone in on with a specific target for the audience in the title.
Thanks for the post!
A mod did it. And no problem! We did this all the time at my undergrad, and it's a lot of fun to keep track of tweets and build current/future schedules.
2 x surprise wins
2 x crippling WTF losses
multiple blood pressure spikes
multiple late game myocardial infarctions
Don't remind me of my undergrad loss days.
Houston's final four season were faced with losses to Tulsa (last second foul), Wichita State (didn't see anything wrong with that), and ECU.
ECU.
ecu....
ECU won because Jayden Gardner went the freak off and actually got help from the rest of his team. (They've knocked off one good team a year that way under Dooley, Cronin Cincy in 2019 and SMU in 2020)
Oh and Jaydens at UVA now btw :)
He's a good player. Not in Fertitta Center, but he's a good player. They said after their five game hiatus, that they were going to upset Houston. Big win for their program.
But wow, UVA. Ew. Like congrats for him but ew.
The B1G/ACC matchup may no longer be Michigan State, BUT this can be Michigan State and Duke scheduling a matchup given that they played in the champions classic last year, and the B1G/ACC might not want to make that an alliance game.
If it ends up being part of that, we can cross MSU off our list.
This can also put an eye on who we might schedule.
That is certainly not insignificant.
Jeff Goodman is reporting the contrary

They care more about making money not saving some "potential" star from leaving.
It could also be part of their strategy in recruiting. Recruit players that aren't getting looks from the majors but tell them you are scheduling the majors for them to play against.
Don't know if it would work, but I bet somebody will try it.
With as connected as recruits are with each other, this would go over like a lead balloon.
This seems more likely. Mid majors have zero leverage.
If VT plays at houston I will definitely be there
The Houston vs ACC school is very much speculation. It was planned while I was an undergrad there, and fell through or was probably postponed to a different time.
If this game happens, I will 100% be there, and probably sneak back into the Student Section or somewhere in the back.
The Fertitta Center is a fun time. The student section is divided into two parts, the courtside and behind the band.
Game vs St. Bonnies on 12/17 in Charlotte as part of a quadruple header.
Added!
As predicted, Hokies hosting Radford
Updated, easy prediction since it is in-state, slightly quality, and because boo(Hoos) did it.
Updated with Davidson and the schedule link from the VT Site.
So far, it's a pretty okay schedule. Home games are cupcakey, the NIT tip off is great and the HOF shootout is a nice addon.
It's getting finalized. ACC school TBD.
I'd love for that to be us and I consider us prominent, but does the media?
We are good. We aren't prominent though. I suspect FSU, UVA or NC State level. They would have used "powerhouse" for Duke or UNC.
It's likely going to be the Hoos. The ACC rumored school a few years back was Hoos. Would love for it to be a game in Blacksburg.
Updated with Navy.
Mike Jones coming to impress all them DMV recruits!
I'm glad it's on the road.
Better resume win
Updated the post. UVA ended up being Houston's ACC team.
Then your rooting interest is doubly clear.
We get to see UVA lose three times this year and next year!
Damn, loading up on sneaky good games.
Confirmed for Dec 12
Dang I'll be in the Dayton area literally a week later
That Dayton team that we played two years ago was a legit final four team IMHO. Not sure how this season's team will stack up against that squad, but I don't expect this to be an easy game for the good guys.
Dayton fans travel really well. VT and Dayton were both in the Wooden Legacy tournament in 2016 in Anaheim. Dayton fans were everywhere, and second only to the UCLA fans present. I'm wondering if they would also travel in numbers to Blacksburg.
Not surprising that they travel... they live in Dayton. I am sure visiting anywhere else is nice.
CMY walking in and seeing Landers..
one free NIL contract to whichever player throws the nastiest dunk on him
I am hoping they all do throw the dunk on him.
