In today's VT News, there's an announcement about VT's "Vaccination Dashboard". In the first two sentences (below), they're using in-person classes and football to encourage the campus community to upload their vaccination data. The dashboard shows 25.2% of students and 27.9% of employees as vaccinated as of 7/1/2021.
In-person classes. Crowds at Lane Stadium. Campus events. These activities can happen only if the majority of Virginia Tech students and employees are vaccinated for COVID-19. As the fall semester inches closer, the university is making progress. But it isn't there yet.
Mike Mulhare, VT AVP of Emergency Management:
To operate in a near normal environment, our employee and student vaccination percentages need to significantly improve.
My concern (during the upload process) was that there was no explanation of who was receiving the data, how it would be used, how long it would be stored, who would have access, etc. That said, I uploaded it anyway because I do love working here...

Is it possible to put the vaccine in Rails?
That's really poor on VT's part. They should be collecting aggregate data not tied to individual identities and should communicate that that is what they are doing.
The University needs data to make informed and effective decisions, but they need to collect it the right way.
It has to be tied to a person. Their guidelines say if you aren't vaccinated you can't attend as a student unless you have a waiver and if you have one you are subject to measures like testing, mask policy etc.
Collecting individual data on vaccinations isn't new. We had to provide proof of childhood vaccinations when I attended.
This - had to show you were current on vaccines, plus have a negative TB test
I just came here for the comments.

Students need to upload by August 6 and Employees by August 15 so there is still over a month. There is also a FAQ available that answers some basic questions but none of the ones posed by the OP.
Vaccines? I don't care which side of the aisle you're, let's do this!
I'm just here for the reactions of people who want to enjoy the benefits of being in a fully/mostly vaccinated environment without actually being vaccinated themselves.
STIR THAT POT!
So what are your thoughts on a student who had covid, but hasn't gotten the vaccination? Is naturally obtained immunity a qualifier for enjoying that environment?
No because there isn't enough data to show that's sufficient.
Science shows that getting the vaccination after having recovered from COVID significantly reduces the chances of contracting it again, to levels potentially even higher than that of those who never contracted it but are also vaccinated.
I just flat out can't wrap my mind around it. It's a free shot or two. Get it. Why not do the thing that will reduce the chances of having to go to the ER or even worse an inpatient stay that could result in permanent damage or death. Or it could do nothing to you and you just covered all your bases. Ain't nobody got random ER or inpatient stay money so get the free shot. It is literally that simple.
thanks OP for the PSA, but i'm making a command decision to close this thread given the comments thus far that have confirmed my initial feeling that there is little value to having an ongoing discussion
