OT: Fall 2021 TV - What are you looking forward to?

I did a quick look to see if there was a somewhat recent TV thread, but didn't see one, so I decided to just make a thread.

Anyways, Apple recently announced the starting date of their Foundation TV show (24 September) and I am absolutely fucking stoked for this. This is the inspiration for a lot of past and modern science fiction, and I'm glad that somebody is putting the money up to do this right. I've got really high hopes for this, and I'm thinking that Apple is going to deliver here. If so, this has the makings of the next GOT-type cultural phenomenon.

Also looking forward to the Wheel of Time starting up on Amazon some time in November or December. Can't wait to see how they visually interpret weaving the source, and how they are able to deliver on what is one of the most epic fantasy series written.

What are you looking forward to watching this fall?

I originally didn't have a reply, and then this happened....

Hopefully you have watched Clarkson Farm?

Very disappointed that their might not be a season 2. Season 1 was simply great. Having been raised on a farm, I laughed hard at many things.

I am excited about and dreading the Wheel of Time series. One of my favorite book series and worried how badly Amazon is going to screw it up. Interesting side note, apparently they are thinking of turning the series into a trio of movies as well.

The trio of movies thing is from the same people who made that horrible trailer a few years ago to try and hold onto the rights. Apparently when Sony/Amazon bought them, they only bought the rights to the content of the books (of to a tv show only, the details are not super clear in my reading).

This movie script thing seems more intended to latch on to the shows launch hype and be sold rather than to try and develop any actual films I do not have high hopes they will go anywhere.

I just recently re-read the Foundation novels to prepare for the Apple series. Fourth time through them, and they seem to get better each time. Cannot wait for this to drop. I am hopeful that Apple will do a good job with their adaptation, this has been a long time coming.

Also interested in the Wheel of Time - that has so much source material.

Wish someone would do something with the Pern novels. Been talked about for years.

Yes, to both of these. Also the Lord of the Rings adaptation that Amazon is also working on, not sure when that is going to be released though, maybe late this year, maybe early next year. Also sort of looking forward to the He-man reboot that's getting released later this month. Hopefully Amazon doesn't ruin the WoT or LoTR potential.

You might want to look at Netflix's reboot of She-Ra to decide if you want to look forward (or dread) their reboot of He-man. Just sayin'.

Ahh reliving childhood. But I will say that I definitely prefer the 80's animation to this.....The drawing from the original is much more detailed.... This one looks like a bad mash-up between My Little Pony/Equestria Girls and Sailor Moon.

I would recommend giving at least the first season a watch. My kids love it and it's really well-written.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

Oh I don't deny that it's cool. My comment was more an observation on the art style.

Marvelous Mrs Maisel season 4 should be coming in December

I believe Strange New Worlds should be coming out around that time as well

College Gameday, College Football Games, Virginia Tech Football Games... that's about all the TV I'll watch this fall.

Probably true for me too - minus College Gameday and most College Football Games. In fact, if UNC wipes the floor with us I probably won't watch much of anything

Finally someone gave the correct reply.

Fall TV= FOOTBALL. DUH!!!!!!

More like next week instead of the Fall but I am really looking forward to season 2 of Ted Lasso.

Not really for the Fall since it's already out, but "The Goes Wrong Show" on Prime is worth your time, especially if you've ever been involved with the theater in any way.

The official trailer for Foundation was released yesterday. SQUEEEEEE!!!!!

This trailer is not the beginning... but it is a beginning.

Well, they released a scene at one of the cons and it has made me very wary. Trying hard not to read too much into just a min or so of footage though.

I do art stuff.

The more I read about it, the less excited and more nervous I get about the production. I loved the books, but finding out they have a:
1. Changed the cast from teens to older because they don't want to be confused with young adult???? It is a coming of age story.
2. Changed casting quite a LOT from the books doesn't help.
3. Already having to replace at least one of the MAIN actors (Mat) from season 1 to 2 doesn't inspire confidence.

This trailer looks pretty spiffy though. Still trying to manage expectations.

anyone else watching Only Murders in the Building ? Probably my new favorite TV show

Just started watching that. Looks interesting so far, but I'm only two episodes in.

Ted Lasso season two was great. Spanned summer and fall and just ended last week. I think I preferred season one over season two, but it was still a fun watch.

Squid Game on Netflix seems to be a worldwide phenomenon and it was captivating. Kept me at the edge of my seat for much of the season.

This weekend Succession season three comes out on HBO and I'm looking forward to that.

Finally started watching Ted Lasso, and I ended up devouring it in a few weeks (then had to wait on the last few episodes). Great show, really feel-goody, and I enjoyed the storylines and characterizations a lot.

Agree on Squid Game. Really did have me at the edge of my seat. Really worth the watch, if you aren't too squeamish. One suggestion: either watch in Korean with English subtitles, or in English with no subtitles. The disconnect between the spoken English and English subtitles was a bit jarring, and broke immersion several times an episode.

I watched with subtitles and Korean dialogue. Pretty much everything I've seen about the show says they recommend the Korean dialogue just because of how expressive the actors are. No idea how the dubbed voices are in comparison but I'd imagine less so.

Can't wait for Succession season 3. Really interesting premise for a show in terms of character development. Basically, lets make every character very unlikeable in their own way, and then see who the audience decides to root for. Feels like an evolution from a show like Breaking Bad, where we all end up rooting for the bad guy. In Succession, your brain almost forces you to pick who is the "least" bad guy and root for them. It's a natural audience reaction that we want to root for somebody.

The answer is Kendall, and Tom to a lesser extent in my opinion.

Before I saw the show it seemed to me like it was just gonna be boring honestly but it's incredible how they've written it and developed characters the way they have. The characters are (almost) all so complex and I find myself thinking several different things about any given character. I'll always root for Greg until he gives me a reason not to, and then it'll be back to Kendall.

+1 for squid game, didn't like the last episode too much, but it was quite a ride

I'm a bit disappointed in Foundation so far. I get that a lot of it had to change, but it really does seem to be developing too slowly, and the hooks to keep you watching are not really that strong. (Trying to be spoiler-free here.) I intend to keep watching, but I wouldn't be surprised to see significant drop off of viewers in the next few episodes, if the pace doesn't pick up.
