The Hokies had four Hokies drafted over the past few days in the 2021 MLB draft.
- Shane Connolly (LHP) was drafted in the 10th round (289th overall) by the Kansas City Royals*
- T.J. Rumfield (SS) was drafted in the 12th round (355th overall) by the Philadelphia Phillies
- Chris Gerard (LHP) was also drafted in the 12th round (361st overall) by the St. Louis Cardinals
- Anthony Simonelli (RHP) was drafted in the 16th round (469th overall) by the Kansas City Royals
Way to go, Hokies. I'm guessing that means we should start a #VT2MO hashtag, now?
*Shane's slot comes with a signing bonus of $147,700, per mlb.com's draft tracker.

Its also worth pointing out that just because you are drafted doesn't mean you are locked into this. Unlike football and basketball, these guys can decline to accept their draft positions and stay in school, eligible to be drafted again in a future season, at least thats how it went with some members of my extended family who went through this themselves.
Idk I think Simonelli and Gerard are gone
Depending on age/ year of school they are in they have to wait a season but I can't find the exact time frame. (Had a senior at my high school get drafted but he wanted to play football in college so he waited, didn't work out so well got hurt).
A senior High school player can be drafted, sign a contract and go pro. If they go to a 4 year college they can't be drafted again for three years. The other option is that they can go to a JUCO and be drafted after their first or second year at the JUCO.
Thank you.
The baseball draft is kind of crazy. For those who don't remember Michael Vick was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in 2000.
469....
TBH, I had that same thought when typing this up, but thought, "Just me? Yeah, nobody would think that because of the 4 in front...."
Glad to know I was mistaken.
My locker number in high school was 469, soooooooo
Also my dorm# was 420. It was great.
Dave?
My roommate was Dave, although he went by Alex
Darn. So many things lined up there. Technically, Dave was suite 420, not room 420. 2007 history major. Same locale. Seemed like it was a possibility.
Big Dave? also went by Superfan or Duvy?
I don't know him by any of those.
He would know about a crazy game of mushroom, though... if it were Dave
Different Dave then
Is exactly why you read every sub-thread, well done folks. Also, I'm now curious about the mushroom story.
I am also kinda curious
All 5 hokies that got drafted are gone ( I went ahead and counted Albright since he was a hokie commit)
