Florida QB is Transferring - Hokies are Rumored...

Florida QB has decided to transfer after already graduating which means he could play where ever he goes right away:

http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/10142620/qb-tyler-murphy-...

The Hokies are rumored (according to TSL) to be interested in a QB transfer but no names have been mentioned. It would make sense that Murphy would be the guy since Scott recruited him at Florida (according to TSL).

Our Wilson to his Wisconsin? That would be wonderful.

Murphy is nowhere near what Wilson was when he transferred to Whisky. While i understand interest in a Sr transfer, not sure he is better than what's already in the stable.

I would prefer Motley or Leal .. jmo

I was alluding to the success of that relationship more so than making a comparison between the two players. But yes I do agree that Murphy is not a Wilson.

But I like to think it's better to have more competition next year. Maybe he's not the guy and Leal or Motley is but I like having that opportunity that he is.

Agree 100% on competition being better for improvement and also like that we are at least a possible suitor. I definitely could be wrong re: Murphy's potential at VT or Motley's. I am also not ready to write off Leal ...

Will be an interesting spring/summer :)

I understood what you meant. Sometimes a joke is just a joke.

The Dude Abides

uh... Do you mean my Wilson/Wisconsin post? Or the mysterious down vote I got for the post you replied to? If the latter then not sure what the joke was as I was trying to be serious. Anyway, no worries

I'm not a downvoter

The Dude Abides

No, I didn't mean you were. I was just unsure what you meant. No worries

Dunno bout all that. Starting in the swamp is heady stuff.

You can't get more game playing experience than that.

Plus, we need someone to wear #3.

Don't be so certain that either freshmen will be ready to play..while getting them into games will be important; starting a freshmen without even redshirting is asking allot.

Seems legit . I love the "win now" mentality of this coaching staff. Forget 2015 and '16. Lets gitter done...NOW!

If it ain't orange, it better be maroon...and if it ain't maroon, it better be soon!

Pull that trigger kid.

This could be something that ignites our teams supposed 15-16 fuse. To be even rumored is huge.

New territory. Fuckin awesome.

Bigger, Faster, STRONGER...BUILT TO HIT

I'd like this a heck of a lot. It'd give us an experienced (not saying Tom Brady or anything, but the man's taken game reps), athletic option that would bridge the gap nicely between Thomas and Ford/Durkin. I like what was said on TSL about his athleticism, basically that he'd give the rebuilding OLine a larger margin for error. Defenses would be hesitant to blitz him and he'd have a better chance than Leal or Thomas of getting out of trouble in the event of a breakdown. I'm very, very interested to see where this kid ends up.

Even if we don't add any more, this QB competition will be something else

Do you have a link to where the Hokies are rumored to be a potential landing spot?

It's mentioned in an article, but admittedly a self-manufactured thought.
I don't think there are any sources except 'Murphy's transferring, wouldn't it be cool if......'

Gotcha. Long as we're careful to not post information from behind pay walls.

I believe there is some insider info that TSL receive from talking to someone in the program that there is interest in a transferring QB. That's all it really alluded too. I've not seen any such article however..

So many conflicted feelings.

Our entire roster will be QBs and RBs but we don't know if any of them will be any good.

I just sit on my couch and b*tch. - HokieChemE2016

That doesn't really bother me. High school QB's and RB's are usually the best atheletes, which is why HS coaches put the ball in their hands 20 times a game. This will work out.

The Dude Abides

It most certainly will. To the point that Gia is becoming an obsession that I think about constantly.

I kept a VT flag up outside. I am more excited about February and the spring game than I have been in a very very long time.

I'm ready to win.

Bigger, Faster, STRONGER...BUILT TO HIT

My flag is still out there too.
It's getting a workout this week.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

I have not watched Murphy, but if Loeffler is actively pursuing him, that means they have less faith than advertised in Leal (and based on what I saw of Leal in spring and fall camp, such a lack of faith is justified) and they don't want to throw Motley, Ford, or Durkin into the fire yet.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

There are more rumors that Cato is looking to graduate and transfer from Marshall. I would take either him or Murphy in a heartbeat!

In Sam Rogers we trust.

I don't know much about Cato, but he looks super intense. I say sign him up and let's see what happens with him and Rogers on the field at the same time!

cato intense

HO-LEE-FUCK-ING-SHIT!!! YES!!!

True Hokies STICK IT IN!!!

Fosterball

These rumors are false. NEVER believe a single rumor from WV. Seriously.

Cato is not going anywhere. This whole rumor got started from a parody site.

This would be even better, Cato would be a great fit if he is indeed looking else where..I bet Scot would be all over that!

Touchdown Tech - Bill Roth

I had not heard of Cato transferring, so I googled "Cato transfer" and I learned that there is a WVU football blog "WeMustIgniteThisCouch" dot com, and I stopped searching for more information because I was laughing so hard.

classic!

Onward and upward

From their "season preview" (yeah, they don't put out many articles)

I think it's very reasonable to suggest that this team can at least equal their record of 7-6 from last year, and I will predict that the team finishes 9-4, winning their lower-tier bowl game and winning the respect that they seem to have lost from many of the Mountaineer faithful.

Hilarious.

haha..solid prediction

Onward and upward

WVU fans are absolutely the worst. The whole Cato thing got started from this article. Obviously, it was sarcasm. The previous articles claim Rich Rod is coming back and WVU is getting kicked out of the Big 12.

However, and I am a born and raised WVian, some people in this state don't actually read/pay attention to where the rumor is coming from. People just love rumors here, I do not know why. From there on, the unfounded rumor gained huge legs, and a reporter even asked Holgorsen if he had talked to Cato /facepalm.

Of course, Holgs said he hasn't. I went to the Military Bowl, saw Cato after, and he could not be more thrilled to be with his teammates and Doc Holliday.

Doc Holliday has tuberculosis.
It doesn't look good.
He definitely will not be with WVU next year.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

It took me a second but I guffawed. I wonder if he can do the cup trick.

Bigger, Faster, STRONGER...BUILT TO HIT

Also, comma club for me.

I'd like to thank everyone, especially myself for being so hilarious and poignant.

Bigger, Faster, STRONGER...BUILT TO HIT

This guy has no idea what he's talking about.

He called Texas "DBU".

Bigger, Faster, STRONGER...BUILT TO HIT

Well, from a numbers standpoint of DB's in the NFL from UT he's kinda got a point. They lead every other college with 11 DB's.

"War was always here. Before man was, war waited for him. The ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner.”~~Judge Holden

pfft... maybe. But how many those are Fuller's?

I'm gonna go with the 'ol Goose Egg. I hate the "DBU" argument. Is it based off players in the NFL? Number of INT's by a school? (Which I think we're pretty high on the overall list) or production you get out of your DB's while in school? I dunno, so eff it, we're DBU too!

"War was always here. Before man was, war waited for him. The ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner.”~~Judge Holden

I've never forgave them for trying to coin the term BrownBall or MackBall or whatever it was.

So, what everybody is saying is there are more rumors about QB's transferring to VT than fans at the LOLUVA spring game? Makes sense.

"War was always here. Before man was, war waited for him. The ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner.”~~Judge Holden

huh?

Sean

What he's saying is that it seems like there are a lot of rumors saying the QB will transfer to Tech, but in reality there are only a few sources saying that's a possibility.

Yup, what TechHokie13 said. Also, anytime math/numbers are involved it's been a long standing tradition around here to poke at that "other school in Virginia" fan base, or lack thereof!

"War was always here. Before man was, war waited for him. The ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner.”~~Judge Holden

Sad that the original comment even needed an explanation.

Murphy's good games this year were against Arkansas, Tennessee and Kentucky. He was lousy against UGA and LSU. He had a lot of yards against Vandy but 3 picks. I'm not convinced he's good.

But he has at least played vs SEC schools and albeit might not have been great he still has experience. And UF was an absolute mess this year so I wouldn't take this year as a measuring stick for his play

"I'm high on Juice and ready to stick it in!" Whit Babcock

But he played in the SEC and, therefore, is automatically better than anyone in any other conference because the SEC. This analysis brought to you by ESPN and /sarcastica

I'm not saying he is better than ant QB we have coming in, but he has played more snaps in a conference that has produced a ton of NFL talent... Also Loeffler recruited him so he had to see something he liked. Regardless our QB situation will be the main talking point until we start our season

"I'm high on Juice and ready to stick it in!" Whit Babcock

So you're saying he could beat BC, Duke and UMD.

Where did I say that??

We should have beat UMD, BC and Ill let the Duke loss slide.

"I'm high on Juice and ready to stick it in!" Whit Babcock

He was replying to Rocco's post, not yours.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

gotcha

"I'm high on Juice and ready to stick it in!" Whit Babcock

losing to Duke in football can never be let sliden.. uh, slode?...slided?... slodden? .. uh... not acceptable

I checked my West Virginia dictionary...the correct usage of the word would be "Slud"

VHokie

Shots at West Virginian literacy will always receive turkey legs.

Those three teams went to bowl games. UT, UK and Arky were the dregs of the SEC. His line against Vandy is probably equivalent to those three teams and UF lost that game.

I'm not terribly impressed by him or his experience.

Neither Leal, but we will find out in a couple months

"I'm high on Juice and ready to stick it in!" Whit Babcock

Yeah, in a perfect world, Leal is adequate enough to start. In a near perfect world, Murphy comes in and beats out Leal and is adequate or slightly better.

We don't want to have to play the freshman, it sure would be great to get them stronger for a year. But a lot of us are just a teensy bit concerned with Leal at this point.

Well, if a freshman is a better player, then yes, we do want to play him.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

Leal's been a good soldier for the last 4 years. I have no problem with giving him a shot at the job. I doubt he keeps the job.

We spoke a bit about this midway through December. Here is the old forum topic if anyone wants to poke around.

2013 stat line: in 6 starts - 112/185 passing (60.5%), 1216 yards, 6 TD/5 INT, 61 carries for 61 yards and 3 TD.

I'm no QB evaluator, but it looks like he played fairly well in his first three games (Tennessee, Kentucky and Arkansas) and poorly in his last four (LSU, Mizzou, Georgia, Vandy). He sprained the AC joint in his throwing shoulder vs LSU and played with it until being shut down after the Vandy game. His sister voiced some displeasure on Twitter about UF supposedly trying to cover up the injury.

@historyhokie.bsky.social

Didn't this come up when we first knew we were getting Scot? I feel like this is an old topic...

Yeah but he actually announced that he is transferring now. When we first got Scot he was still at Florida.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

So...knowing that Murphy is experienced, but Florida was a mess and didn't do too well: what specifically can we provide to help Murphy be successful in one year that Florida couldn't? Thoughts?

-What we do is, if we need that extra push, you know what we do? -Put it up to fully dipped? -Fully dipped. Exactly. It's dork magic.

A coaching staff that has a vision with what the offense wants to do. Also we have these things/animals/beasts called Bud Foster and Scott Loeffler
