When I head the news this is the exact gif I thought of. ^^^
Damn. I hate that for him.
you beat me to it. this really sucks for him and for the team
Glad he's doing what's right for his health.
With regard to depth, it is what it is. We have bodies, we just don't have a lot of proven bodies. Now is the time for someone to prove out.
Good decision for Belmar, don't mess with your mentals.
Would be a great time for Garbutt to step up.
Well good news there
via GIPHY^^this, right here, is an underrated comment
Def gonna need a freshman to step up in PT
Sad to see him go, but he obvious weighed his options and after such a hard recovery last year I can't blame him.
Best of luck to him in the future.
Anything in the portal worthy of a scholly? What's the latest someone could get in erolled?
I wouldn't be against us snagging a portal DE or JUCO at this point, even on super short notice. I'm sure we had some guys we were monitoring knowing that this could be the case involving Belmar's potential medical retirement.
Tough blow. He was a legit player and a veteran. Now you need True Freshman to contribute because the kids that had time in the program hit the portal. Razor thin there.
I believe Belmar put in a solid 5 years with us including is True Freshman year, I do recall he switched from LB to D-End. I wish him the best of luck, I enjoyed watching him play.
Having seen the other Thread, Can we get Keli Lawson at D-End?
How about Connor Blumrick? The portal seems empty, do we have any undersized OTs that can fill? Drake Delulis?
Man I was still on offense on my "who next at {position} threads"...I might have to switch to D-End
Have you seen Keli Lawson? Zero chance he's playing DE in 2021 (or probably any year).
Bummed, but hope he is ok. Head injuries are not something to roll the dice on and keep playing.
Take care of yourself Belmar. Thank you for pouring your heart into Hokie Football.
Never forget that one of his contributions was recovering the fumble to end the UVA game in 2018

I don't know if DE depth is dire enough to change up schemes, but I swear I saw some DTs playing outside in spring practice pictures. Any chance to flex to a 3-4 with LBs playing stand up DE-like positions? Are those changes so counter to the Teerlinck D-line scheme that they are out of the question?
Always felt like you were getting everything he had to offer on the field. I hate this for him but am not surprised by the news. I was not expecting major contributions from a guy that still hadn't been cleared for a head injury in August. I really hope he uses his opportunity to jump into coaching or any other career path he prefers.
He is a hokie legend for that fumble recovery. If the head injury is that bad, I'm glad he is stepping away in hopes that he'll always remember why he is a legend.
Damn...just sucks all aroundπ. Glad he did the right thing for his health and future. Honestly that's all that really matters and he was a true hokie and always will be. That being said we were thin and just got skinnier with depth....maybe someone steps up and surprises us all? Either way he did what was right and wish belmar the bestππ»ππ»
