Marshall was not one of the 8 seeded teams in the tournament last year, but they had a nice run for the title.
Men's soccer is BY FAR Virginia Tech's best chance to win a national title in the near future. We're consistently good (round of 16 like 4 out of the last 5 years or something) and it's a lot easier for a team of our level to make a run in soccer than in other sports. I'm not expecting it, but it's actually somewhat realistic, unlike our other sports. If Marshall can do it, so can we. Go Hokies!

It was only the fourth time the Tech men's soccer program has upset the nation's top-ranked team. Tech defeated No. 1 Duke in 2004, No. 1 North Carolina in 2011 and No. 1 Notre Dame in 2017.
Marshall returned 10 of 11 starters from that national championship team and boatraced #21 JMU 6-1 a few days ago. Great win for VT as it was kind of a shock to a lot of Marshall people including myself.

Marshall coach Chris Grassie blamed the officiating for his team's loss.
"We were a better [soccer] team by a mile. And if it wasn't for the referee calling whatever he wanted for them, we would've been just fine," Grassie said. "Look at the fouls that led to the corner kick that they got. The PKs were never PKs. They were never PKs. Our guy gets fouled for the second one; that's essentially just giving them the game."

Seems as though this is a carry-over from the Natty run last year. He irked a lot of other fans along the way with his sideline antics and whining from peeping at a Clemson message board. (Yes, I take it with a grain of salt...)

Grassie is a very good guy. Had the pleasure of talking to him more than once. He is ultra competitive though. He talked a lot of shit in the pressers last year during the national championship run.

Turns out there's no monopoly on crying.
Grassie is a very good guy. Had the pleasure of talking to him more than once. He is ultra competitive though. He talked a lot of shit in the pressers last year during the national championship run.
Perhaps he will learn some humility after this...hope he can turn this into a learning opportunity
