Bookies everywhere rejoice with a roughing the passer call on OSU saving it from being likely an 11 point lead for OSU and now a 4 point lead for Minny instead
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
The Roughing (which was mild, but legit) had absolutely nothing to do with the interception that was thrown. It's essentially a 75 yd penalty and change of possession.
There's no reason that an INT should be negated by a roughing-the-passer. Its a crappy rule that needs to be changed.
Also, 100% guarantee this is a no-call if this game is in Columbus.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I'm against any more arbitrary rules in CFB. Its a live ball foul while possession is a toss up applying it any other way adds ambiguity which we've watched be controversial for years (targeting).
Edit: Actually making it a dead ball foul would make at least some sense even though its technically occurring during a live play.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
While i agree that getting an INT taken away due to roughing the passer sucks, changing it would have to have some clause about where the ball was when intercepted. If the pass is batted backward (after the roughing) and intercepted behind the line then one could argue the QB might have had a chance to make the play if they weren't fouled. But 90% of the time these throws are 30+ yards down the field and have no change in the outcome.

The fact that apparently the Targeting aspect wasn't even reviewed is inexcusable.
After watching this game, I can fully conclude that I have no idea what constitutes PI, holding, or targeting. Hopefully this "alliance" doesn't bring any Big10 officials to the ACC, this has been completely inconsistent and embarrassing.
The only thing more embarrassing was listening to the announcers waffle their way through it. Have an opinion and stick to it.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Eh see this is the problem with targeting. It's rarely ever "100%" certain because of the language of the rule.
The defender kept his facemask up and did NOT lead with the crown of his helmet. The head to head was incidental, AND he kept his head up like a proper form tackle. I don't know what else you're supposed to do if you're the defender there, dislocate your neck like a snake dislocates its jaw?
Then you have to question whether the WR was "defenseless" which again, is a subjective and unclear state of existing in a discrete moment on a football field. The argument for defenseless player is by far the best in favor of it being targeting, but I don't think the DB did anything "dirty," or "classless," as is always stated in passion in the wake of these plays.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
He lunged and appeared to leave his feet, making helmet to helmet contact with a player who clearly had no time to brace or protect himself.
He knocked the guy cold.
I understand your position and agree to an extent and the rules are written vaguely. But, at some point, things have to speak for themselves...knocking a guy out with a helmet to helmet hit should be targeting...protecting head injuries is the point of the rule.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I usually agree with you on most things, Chris, but I'm going to disagree with you here after watching a clip.
The defender kept his facemask up and did NOT lead with the crown of his helmet.
at least from the angle in the clip I watched, it's not clear that this is true. What is clear, is that the crown of the defender's helmet makes contact with the helmet of the receiver.
The head to head was incidental
It doesn't look that way to me at all
AND he kept his head up like a proper form tackle
I think of a proper form tackle as wrapping up and twisting down. There is no intent by the defender to wrap up the player. He intentionally made a missile out of his body and tried to hit the player with as much force as possible.
I don't know what else you're supposed to do if you're the defender there, dislocate your neck like a snake dislocates its jaw?
target the hips of the player, not the shoulder/head region. Besides, tackling a player at the hips is more effective than trying to take them down by the shoulders.
but I don't think the DB did anything "dirty," or "classless," as is always stated in passion in the wake of these plays.
I don't think the defender had mal-intent, necessarily. His job is to tackle the opposing player. I just think his technique is questionable. He aims high, doesn't even attempt to wrap up, and is clearly trying to deliver a very forceful hit.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
To be clear, I'm not saying it wasn't targeting, but merely explaining why I do not think it is a clear-cut case based on the subjective nature in which targeting is both written as a rule and inconsistently interpreted from instance to instance.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I sort of misunderstood that part of it. I agree that the way the rule is written and enforced is pretty poor - nobody really knows what targeting is and sometimes I wonder if that extends to the refs themselves.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
An example off the top of my head for how inconsistent and different the circumstances are each time this happens:
After the hit last night it did look like the WR got knocked out cold, facemask up (imo), no targeting called. In the 2019 playoff between Ohio State and Clemson, a sub 6'0 corner is called for targeting on Trevor Lawrence because he put his head down to do a normal tackle (does dip his helmet down), and 6'6 Trevor Lawrence ducked down to the point where their helmets hit. The helmets never would have made contact if not for Trevor Lawrence ducking down (significantly) into the hit. Targeting is called. Trevor stayed down for a second, but not even for his head, he was holding his shoulder (where the majority of the contact occurred).
Both plays could have been been called the other way and it almost would have made more sense to me, but alas, we got the opposite.

In the Immaculate - Youngstown game. When Immaculate was leading (under 4 minutes to go), a flag was picked up for targeting against Youngstown. The Penguin clearly launched leading with his helmet, but targeted the body not the head so they said no targeting. Then again it was @ Youngstown, and they were losing, so how much home cooking...
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I disagree with the harsh penalty associated with targeting. For this, I tend to want to see the penalty overturned. However, as written, I see this as a play they are trying to get rid of and should probably be targeting. There was one in another game that I was watching that got overturned as well. I wonder if the officials were told to let coin flips go this year.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
The WR had no time to protect himself from the hit as he was still in the process of making the catch. Blow him up if you want but you can't earhole him in the scenario.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
he needs his thumb to work though. I read through a couple news articles very quickly and his absence from their game / depth chart looks to be because he's still recovering from thumb surgery during the offseason.

I had to look up his current team b/c who can possibly keep track. He's 23 and has 2 years left of eligibility (might be 3 w/ covid). If he gets creative he might challenge Weinke for the oldest college QB. When I fact checked that Weinke was indeed the oldest, I ran across this article. Can you imagine playing college football at the age of 61?

You know at first, me too a bit but then I realized that King or Blackshear make that same play. It was a blown coverage with excellent downfield blocking. No one got near him, it was just a sprint and he is fast.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
For starters neither King nor Blackshear posses that kind of talent - the dude is the highest rated RB to commit to OSU. Secondly, yes it was a busted coverage, no the downfield blocking wasn't excellent. The dude simply ran away from every one.
It was a fantastic play by Henderson.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I'm not saying King or Blackshear are as talented, just on that play, they could have scored as well. Henderson didn't do anything special or fantastic that guys we have couldn't do (vision, juke, etc) it was just pure speed. He had a lineman downfield blocking some and a WR running beside him blocking. Only 1 guy had a shot at touching him and he was coming off of a block.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
it was a good play call, he shook the man he needed to beat, MN was out of position - that usually means a TD or at least a big play at this level, regardless of how great the ball carrier is.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
If Hooker couldn't beat out Milton... Whew. Milton was, underwhelming. Missed deep shot after deep shot despite forever in the pocket. And then when he ran, he tip-toed anywhere near contact. Vols should have scored three more TDs.

I thought the same. Flat footed for 5 solid seconds before delivering an incompletion or poorly thrown completion. Even took a sack for -5 after tons of protection. My guess is Tennessee struggles this year.

This Penn State/Wisconsin game is a stereotypical B10 game. All defense and next to no offense. I have been able to walk the dog and come back and literally not miss anything of note.

Yeah, very disappointing. My rooting interest in the Big 10 is Wisconsin and I am not a fan of Penn State. Maybe they will get their act together yet this year.

So yeah Clemson look no bueno but Georgia's d looks as good as advertised. Same old Kirby smart legendary defense mediocre offense.
Also how is skalski still playing I can't stand that guy
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Uiagaleilei looks like a significant downgrade from Lawrence. Not nearly as fast and seems slow reading the field/hesitant. Also no run game against this Georgia front.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Yeah, I think BB3 played better yesterday and he is playing today. The only reason Clemson is even in this game is their defense is playing very well. Though if Georgia scores here and goes up 14, I think it is over. Clemson's offense is borderline inept tonight.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
What conference are these refs from? No roughing the kicker because it was "tipped" even though nobody came within 5 feet of touching that ball and no late hit out of bounds when the guy was a good 2 yards out of bounds.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I thought the ACC had mandated that neutral site games should be officiated by third conference. Maybe that only applies to certain game? The CFA Alabama/Miami game had Big Ten refs, but Duke's Mayo brought in the SEC.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Looks like the ACC is in mid season form with their 3 sweethearts, Clemson/UNC/Miami, already losing in week one. This conference is anybody's game this year

The quietest Lane game I've ever been to was louder than the loudest DKR game I've ever been to. UT is so lame for their size and money. I don't blame their jealousy one bit.

LSU fans can explain away last year in the context of the pandemic and replacing most of the 2019 team, but another year like last year and that ED O seat might get Gene Chizik hot.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Probably way too early hot take but with Georgia shutting down Clemson and Oklahoma barely getting the W (against Tulane π) should we go ahead and present the trophy to Bama?
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Handing bama the trophy in week one, it sure is looking that way, maybe the osu QB gets up to speed, but I surely dont think clemsons QB will show up any time soon
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Too early on anyone. Bama played an overrated Miami team (the u is not back) so hard to draw too much from that game. Let's wait until the middle of the SEC season before we get a good sense on Bama. Ohio St played a tougher than they look Minnesota team and looked decent enough to be a front runner. The only other "OMG" takes I had from this real opening weekend is that Georgia's defense may be brick wall. Clemson had 2 (?!!?!) yards rushing - any team should be able to run forward, trip, and still be able to get more than that against any D. Not sure if this had more to do with Clemsons o-line, or if Georgia really is that good.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Craziest week 1 in awhile. ACC and Pac12 did not cover themselves in glory outside of UCLA. Lots of good upsets from smaller schools. Some close calls as well. That OU-Tulane game... OU didn't look like they were going to get a stop if that QB's dive had been two yards further down the field.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Yeah not a great showing from the lower SEC teams, but their shaky start was heavily outshined by the ACC and PAC12's poor showings against FCS/G5 teams.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Yes. Junky way to interfere with the opposing offense's communication.
There used to be a rule that the band had to cut off when the offense broke huddle. I don't know whether that rule has gone away, or no one knows how to deal with it when the offense doesn't huddle, or if it's just Clemson band getting away with CONCACAFing.

I don't care for either of these teams, but dang it feels good for those obnoxious FSU fans and their stupid chant to have to watch this terrible team.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I don't want to jinx us, but man with Clemson coming down to earth some, FSU and Miami in shambles, GT losing to NIU and wanting Geoff Collins fired, and us shutting down UNC on Friday, the time is ripe for VT to make a run and seize back some power in the ACC. If Clemson plays like they did last night, NC State might have a shot to take the Atlantic.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Announcers tonight asked is it concerning unc lost as a ranked team, then in the same sentence say fsu can rebound with a win against a ranked opponent. No respect for VT. Not surprising but the cognitive dissonance is astounding

I hadn't heard about the awful tweet, but I found this gem on r/cfb earlier today. They overturned a fumble and the dude had to give the chain back and run back out on the field.

Alabama vs Georgia SEC championship with both going to the playoffs no matter what? That Georgia dline and RB look ridiculous.
Clemson oline and dline look suspect. Possibly the year someone else wins the ACC?
UCLA looked fun and I'm so happy they beat LSU. It would be great if Louisville could win one for the ACC tomorrow.
ND looks good. Great TE, RB, and WRs. Defense looks solid too. That's going to be a really tough game.
I love our win but I expected a lot more from the offense. To my untrained eyes, it seems like there was a lot of opportunity but a lack of execution. Hopefully we can clean that up in the next week or two.

I know our fans shit on Fuente and Corny but, damn, Norvell has made some of the most mind numbingly dumb calls in this game. Starting and sticking with Travis as long as he did and ONLY stuck Milton in once Travis lost his helmet. And that absolutely desperation drive in the 3rd. If FSU wins this game, they will do it in spite of Norvell not because of him.

This has been one of the worst coaching jobs I can ever remember by Norvell. He should personally apologize to every player after this game for sucking this badly.

If I have hurt anyone out there, I can't tell you how much I say from the bottom of my heart I'm so very, very sorry. I pride myself and think of myself as a man of faith, as there's a drive into deep left field by Castellanos and that'll be a home run, and so that'll make it a 4-0 ballgame."

So I went to my first Camp Randall game on Saturday, it was everything I could've hoped for even with the bad play and cloudy weather. Wasn't enough time for me to pregame tailgate for an 11 am game, but the postgame tailgating was fun. Highly recommend. I love Madison already, even though I'm moving back to DC next week, but this was definitely part of the Madison experience I missed out on last fall.

It was awesome! Enter Sandman is more hype, Jump Around is just everybody having fun. The way their student section is set up makes it look really really cool.

I have only been during the day, but it just seemed better fit for an afternoon of football. Fun. But I don't see it holding up at night, but I feel the same way about enter sandman for non kickoffs, its out of place, but at night its one of a kind. But Madison is a great place to watch a game, jump around is fun to be apart of.

First time I remember seeing them do it was in 2010 or 2011 in primetime when Nebraska went to Camp Randall (think Gameday may have been there). Wisconsin was beating the brakes off of em and they came out of commercial to it and my jaw dropped lol that place was rockin

Holy Mother of God!!! 4 players (2 from each team) ejected for targeting in the Louisville/Ole Miss game and it's not even halftime. If this keeps up, they will have to pull fans/cheerleaders/random people off the street to finish the game.

Louisville MIGHT win four games this season if they continue to play like this. I feel like the fanbase despises Satterfield, especially after the USCe debacle.

Kirk and rece head some nice conversation about us during the louisville ole miss game tonight. They were discussing how people were down on the Acc because of clemson and Unc losing but then argued that they thought Vt looked real good with "justin hamilton's defense flying around" and both were very impressed with burmeister. Just some nice media attention to hear on espn

On the ending thing with SVP they just went through and talked about how Clemson losing to Georgia is nothing to be ashamed of, Miami losing to Bama is nothing to be ashamed of, and losing on the road to VT is nothing to be ashamed of. Nice to hear the respect and a little flattery, even if we really shouldn't be lumped with Bama and Georgia lol.

I'm watching the Minnesota offense and can't help but wonder if we secretly traded Loeffler away this offseason.
Do you mean Cornelsen?
Loeffler's the HC at Bowling Green... And he's
destroying that program.
Probably. Yeah... I'm already game day beverage ready for tomorrow. Yes - Corny is who I meant
They just we're talking about how the HC took play calling back after one quarter lol.
Did they say Minnesota averaged 25 players out per week last season due to COVID?
Yes - I heard that as well. Insane.
No excuse, Minnesota. Everyone else had to deal with covid too.
dcwilson's alt confirmed.
I believe the point they were making was that you can't look at last season as an indicator for how this season will play out.

Ya hate to see it
He's still a bit rusty, but I see why they went with Milton.
I watched the game for a little bit, all Milton fumbling away. Did Hooker get some game time?
All Milton, no QB controversy in vols-land.
Edit: I retract that. He had one pass for 5yrds. I guess I went to bed before he got in.
There was also a fumble on an attempted hand-off that kept Tennessee from covering the 35-37 point spread.
Oof, pretty telling that the Tenn fans on CFB calling to bench Milton want Bailey to start.

Is it a Hooker problem or a coaching one?
Shane named a Grad Assistant COACH his starting QB at uSCe this weekend...
And he tosses 4 td passes today......
Wow, how about that App State/ECU struggle at the goal line?
Refs tried to give it to ECU. Review overturned it (I don't know how).
Michigan State's offense is looking as good as our defense early on. Just gashing Northwestern.
Charlotte gonna upset Duke! π
Duke was outclassed in almost every facet.
So far 3 FCS over FBS wins this year. What a wild start to the season.
Campbell πͺπͺπͺ playing Liberty today at 6. Hoping camels can stick around and give them a scare at least.
Malik Willis might be a cheat code in this game though.
Just flipped to the BC-Colgate game accidentally and the announcers are taking about VT, Burmeister, and how much trouble Hooker gave BC last year.
God, it feels nice to have Tech be worth mentioning outside of our own games.
I hope it'll last.gif
This Penn State/Wisconsin game is a stereotypical B10 game. All defense and next to no offense. I have been able to walk the dog and come back and literally not miss anything of note.

Miami couldn't have scripted a worse start.
...Andddd there's a targeting lol. Bad to worse you hate to see it
How badly do we want Miami to lose? By 28-35?
70?
I actually want them to win. Helps the ACC look better and any Alabama loss is great for the sport.
Miami out there looking like 2020 VT while trying to tackle.
WVU's O-line does not look good against Maryland. This pleases me.
WVU defense getting worked
Yeah, WVU's defense looks mediocre.
But their running back can flat out play
In a shocking turn of events, Bama's highest rated QB recruit ever looks very good so far.
Shocking...
Miami look as advertised for a Manny coached side. King hobbling into the tent not a good sign
When did Maryland's jersey's get way better??? Sort of a throw back to early 2000's but I really like the red helmet.
Bama is just entirely awful for the sport. When are people going to have enough of watching them dominate everyone?
How did I miss duke losing to Charlotte
So I might be premature in saying this...but I don't think that the U is back this year.
Important Update
How is that piece of shit Skalski still playing for Clemson?
Technically that's "Ben Boulware '17 piece of shit" Skalski still playing for Clemson.
I dunno. I turned to the wife last night when I first heard his name and said, "wtf, I thought he graduated last year"
Damn, this punter for UGA is money so far.
Go Tribe!
So yeah Clemson look no bueno but Georgia's d looks as good as advertised. Same old Kirby smart legendary defense mediocre offense.
Also how is skalski still playing I can't stand that guy
Watching the Middle Tennessee game and had no idea that Bailey Hockman was their quarterback this year.
So is Clemson ass, Georgia legit, or somewhere in between?
They look to simply have zero run game and they aren't using the QB run so Georgia are so only pinning the ears back and going all out blitz alot
I'm absolutely thrilled to see Clemson humbled... I'm just surprised (?) I guess lol
I'm not sure there's any gross difference between these two teams.
All I can tell is It's 7-0 right now and the defense is winning.
Also Clemson's offensive line is trash and getting exposed in a big way
Clemson looks mortal this year. They could drop a couple of games if they don't get better QB play.
Uiagaleilei looks like a significant downgrade from Lawrence. Not nearly as fast and seems slow reading the field/hesitant. Also no run game against this Georgia front.
Yeah, I think BB3 played better yesterday and he is playing today. The only reason Clemson is even in this game is their defense is playing very well. Though if Georgia scores here and goes up 14, I think it is over. Clemson's offense is borderline inept tonight.
They're fine at QB IMO. It's OL and RB where they are hurting.
Agreed, the lack of a running game killed their offense.
It is almost the end of the 3rd and Clemson has 92 yards of total offense. This 10 point lead seems insurmountable for them.
"Fuck Matt Ryan" rolls off the tongue pretty easily.
Now imagine a time line where UGA fans are saying "Fuck David John Uiangelelei!" 15 years from now...
Gotta pull for Georgia here.
Clemson has a drive going here but their perimeter blocking has not been good at all. Georgia's CBs are just better than Clemson's WRs tonight.
How quickly this spins into how shitty has Georgia's offense been if Clemson. Score here
A FG helps Clemson here but it still feels like a loss. They had to put that in the endzone.
What conference are these refs from? No roughing the kicker because it was "tipped" even though nobody came within 5 feet of touching that ball and no late hit out of bounds when the guy was a good 2 yards out of bounds.
I thought the ACC had mandated that neutral site games should be officiated by third conference. Maybe that only applies to certain game? The CFA Alabama/Miami game had Big Ten refs, but Duke's Mayo brought in the SEC.
Yeah that was a late hit wayyyy outside the field of play SEC refs bailing out Georgia there
So USCe looked pretty good for Shane Beamer's first go with the head whistle.
How do you all feel about that? Should we root for USCe to win the SEC?
Clemson UGA reminds me a lot of the 6-3 Bama LSU game. Defenses are just having their way
Yup curious, not alot learned other than both defenses are good. Now how bad the offenses really are we won't know for a few weeks
Looks like the ACC is in mid season form with their 3 sweethearts, Clemson/UNC/Miami, already losing in week one. This conference is anybody's game this year
Big L to start the season for Georgia tech, I dont miss the ol ball coach one bit
Yea, that pivot away from the triple option is still hurting them pretty badly. Oh well, at least CPJ isn't a bother anymore.
All my Longhorn Fan or Alum neighbors tonight, are saying Enter Sandman at VT is the Greatest Entrance.
Goodnight, and LET's GO!
The quietest Lane game I've ever been to was louder than the loudest DKR game I've ever been to. UT is so lame for their size and money. I don't blame their jealousy one bit.
HOKIES!!!!
IM JEALOUS OF UCLA OFFENSE!!!
LSUs defense is gassed and chip Kelly has them right where he wants em. Big season for LSU gotta bounce back from a stinker last season
LSU fans can explain away last year in the context of the pandemic and replacing most of the 2019 team, but another year like last year and that ED O seat might get Gene Chizik hot.
LSU is going to lose this game pretty convincingly. The PAC12 needed this pretty desperately.
Heh heh, Boutte
Probably way too early hot take but with Georgia shutting down Clemson and Oklahoma barely getting the W (against Tulane π) should we go ahead and present the trophy to Bama?
Our dark horse undefeated season will catch them by surprise!
Handing bama the trophy in week one, it sure is looking that way, maybe the osu QB gets up to speed, but I surely dont think clemsons QB will show up any time soon
My thoughts are ABPS.
Anyone but Penn State.
Agreed. My nightmare scenario is a championship matchup between Penn State and Bama.
Middle of the SEC season so we can compare them to .... looks at schedule ... Tennessee? The have 2.5 games left, UF, A&M and Auburn.
Well yeah if we are going to be level headed and all rather than overreact then sure let's wait for the season to play out. π
Next week's rankings are going to look significantly different.
Craziest week 1 in awhile. ACC and Pac12 did not cover themselves in glory outside of UCLA. Lots of good upsets from smaller schools. Some close calls as well. That OU-Tulane game... OU didn't look like they were going to get a stop if that QB's dive had been two yards further down the field.
thats what you get with a ranked offense and b12 defense
Vandy lost, MSU should have lost, Mizzou struggled. Not looking so great there Bob.
also increase the counter for ranked teams to lose to FCS, go huskies
Yeah not a great showing from the lower SEC teams, but their shaky start was heavily outshined by the ACC and PAC12's poor showings against FCS/G5 teams.
At least it wasn't us contributing to that for once π
No doubt lol, really nice to be on the opposite end of that spectrum.
Was anyone else bothered by the band that kept playing during Clemson/Georgia and would just hold the last note of a song forever?
If you told me in the late 90s that we'd be using CONCACAF references in college football 25 years from now, I'd call you crazy. Yet, here we are.
FSU's secondary looks like hot garbage so far.
EDIT: Correction. FSU looks like hot garbage. The defense just happened to be on the field first.
F$U in midseason form.
I don't care for either of these teams, but dang it feels good for those obnoxious FSU fans and their stupid chant to have to watch this terrible team.
This game is the definition of a meteor game.
As much as I'd like to see Notre Dame lose, I do enjoy seeing the Criminoles sucking ass.
Better for them to be undefeated when we beat them
FSU's QB is yikes bad. This is the best the can come up with?
I don't want to jinx us, but man with Clemson coming down to earth some, FSU and Miami in shambles, GT losing to NIU and wanting Geoff Collins fired, and us shutting down UNC on Friday, the time is ripe for VT to make a run and seize back some power in the ACC. If Clemson plays like they did last night, NC State might have a shot to take the Atlantic.
QB is definitely bad, but it's hard to be decent when there's opposing guys in your face damn near when the ball hits your hands...
Norte Dame is putting on a clinic to demonstrate why preseason rankings don't mean sh*t.
Feels like they do this at some point every year
Announcers tonight asked is it concerning unc lost as a ranked team, then in the same sentence say fsu can rebound with a win against a ranked opponent. No respect for VT. Not surprising but the cognitive dissonance is astounding
This couldn't have happened to a better team:
Hatin' on The Chain
I hadn't heard about the awful tweet, but I found this gem on r/cfb earlier today. They overturned a fumble and the dude had to give the chain back and run back out on the field.
(Glad to see you back, selhini!!!)
Goddamn, both FSU and ND are playing like hot garbage. Not stopping the ABC announcers fro deep throating ND every chance they get.
FSU needs to have their defense work on tackling drills next week.
Is ND that good offensively or is FSU bad defensively...I'm thinking the latter.
I'd definitely think the latter vs the former.
Well going for that 4th in the 3rd quarter was desperation. Why would you think the game is over this early?
Total desperation and pressing too hard trying for the big play. Not impressed with FSU tonight. ND is solid but overrated too.
FSU giving this game away
Just checked ND's schedule...they play Wisconsin and Cincinnati back to back BEFORE coming to Lane. Daaaammmnnn
If you're not watching ND vs. FSU turn it on now!
Mckenzie Milton magic? π
So happy for Mackenzie Milton! I was hoping he would throw for the score, but he led them down and they scored a TD.
I really don't want to see FSU win this game but I don't think I could cheer against McKenzie Milton and sleep well tonight...
I want *us* to be the ones to knock off the Irish... But I also cannot root against Milton.
I will *NEVER* root for FSU. In the case of them playing UVA, I could only hope that there is some obscure rule wherein both teams could lose.
Well this year if both teams don't have enough players due to covid they both forfeit, so its possible.
So if you root against Milton, you'll only sleep with one eye open?
Gripping my pillow tight.
This pillow, right?
Only the shirted side. I'm team dad bod (because those of us with dad bods fkin rock.)
I believe the term we're going with now is "father figure"
Ah. I went with what I knew. Hard to keep up with the terms anymore
I know I hate the Noles but how can you not be rooting for Milton?
I don't usually cheer for FSU, but when I do they're playing Notre Dame.
Milton with a shuttle pass and man if they lose this norvell will feel like a dip shit for going for it early in the third
Either way he should feel like a dipshit for that call
Norvell is a dip shit for about 20 different things in this game. He has coached a terrible game.
Game of the year in week 1? Holy cow.
Even more than our NFL-esque battle against UNC?
youalmosthadit.gif
Did Norvell just ice his own kicker?
Norvell icing his own kicker on a made field goal.
That's worse than icing the other team's kicker when they miss on the first "attempt". Norvell better hope he makes the closer kick.
Edit: that's 1000% on the coach. With the college angle being harder than NFL, closer isn't always easier. In the NFL that was good.
Dead. π€£π€£π€£
Tuck rule??
No tuck rule in college. I think everybody got rid of that stupid rule.
Well, if they overturn this call, it's hard to knock Norvell for that...
I don't understand how that's not grounding anyway.
If it was a pass, how was it not grounding?
Wow, pretty terrible call there. That was clearly a fumble.
He iced his own fucking kicker hahahahahahahaha ha norvell is fucking on fire tonight
Norvell has made some horrendous coaching decisions tonight. ACC home cooking from the refs is the only thing that kept them in it.
This has been one of the worst coaching jobs I can ever remember by Norvell. He should personally apologize to every player after this game for sucking this badly.
Ouch. Ball don't lie?
Norvell just did a Fuente.
I was having a hard time deciding which was worse... but Fuente led us to lose to fking Liberty... that was still worse.
Brian Kelly getting all the luck of the Irish to win this one. He owes norvell dinner atleast
He still has his TO. The challenge was a successful one
I forgot the tracker shows it used I forgot
Lolnoles.
Now we get to beat the golden domers.
I honestly was not looking forward to ESPN if FSU had won so...
Did Brian Kelly just say his whole team needs to be executed?
Well he's killed a kid before, so...
Unreal comment about his team. He definitely said it.
ND's apology statement from Kelly tomorrow:
"I made a comment earlier tonight that I guess went out over the air that I am deeply ashamed of.
Brian Kelly on "execution" was an awkward sound bite
I think that makes FSU 0-5 in their last 5 season openers, tying Duke for the worst ever in ACC play.
Geez, did Brian Kelly really just say his entire team should be executed after tonight?
Sure did
On national television.
Me thinks poor attempt at the John McKay quote.
https://www.bucsnation.com/2016/9/19/12972680/john-mckay-buccaneers-tamp...
When trying to be witty goes wrong 101
Chappelle: 1
Kelly: 0
Was witty the way McKay said it.
Kelly, not so much.
When you have already killed one student in your time maybe don't joke about killing more later in life.
I think my ties to Louisville are somewhat known on here by now...this is hard to watch and I'm afraid about to get pretty damn ugly.
O&M glasses off...Jump Around....how does it compare?
Is it my feed or does that stadium look empty
Went to the 2013 Sugar Bowl between UofL and Florida and it miiight have been half full. Just not a well traveling football fanbase.
I thought that maybe Louisville would represent for the ACC tonight
I dont know we have beaten as many top 10 teams as UGA and more than Bama. Seams like a perfect trio!
That Louisville game was hard to watch, partly because Louisville looked like hot garbage, but mostly because Ole Miss hired DJ Durkin.
Agreed. I had not kept up and did not know where Durkin had landed.
For interesting stats of the week, it looks like Rutgers is the highest scoring FBS team week 1.
The bottom appears to be UConn and Clemson. (edit: and USF)
Just like we all predicted.
