Tonight, Tech starts getting into its ACC schedule with #2 Syracuse. The Hokies likely will be without several starters for this game, so a tough task gets even tougher with Adam Smith, Marshall Wood and C.J. Barksdale likely to miss the game with various injuries/illness. If you are looking to catch the game, E$PN3 will be carrying it. The game kicks off late starting at 9pm. If you are on campus, hopefully you get out and support the boys tonight.

I know we aren't very good, but you would think with us playing the #2 team in the nation we could get a non-internet broadcast...
If you live in the state of VA and you get the CW you should be able to watch the game. http://www.theacc.com/#!/news-detail/ACC-Network-Affiliates-ACCMBB-Syrac...
That's good news! Glad I don't have to watch a pixelated WatchESPN stream. Thought it was weird that the NBC showings (which seem a lot better than CW) of the game are in NY (not surprising) and Charlottesville though.
Unfortunately there are two other top ten matchups in mens basketball tonight that got the primetime slots.
#7 Baylor plays #9 Iowa State at 7pm and #3 Ohio State plays #5 Michigan State, and then the ACC has Duke playing Georgia Tech at 7pm as well.
Its also ESPN slobknobbing the SEC carrying Tenn vs LSU and Vanderbilt vs Alabama
Having to show sec bball is their punishment for all the football bias. Outside UK they're very average
UF tends to have a good team. But to your point, the SEC can still go eat a bowl of dicks.
UVA lost to Tennessee by 35 and the Hoos still think they are good haha.
this could get ugly...
decaf?
you lied to me!
LOL thanks for this. That was me today when i found out a project I've been working on for 4 weeks had the drawings completely changed by the engineer/architect.
almost as bad as being served decaf instead for regular!
I'm an architect- so it definitely was the engineer!
Getting close to game time, whats everyone looking for from this game?
Better ball security than when we faced havoc.
A good streaming website. Firstrow and espn hate my work computer
Barksdale and Wood will play, good news.
That is good news. Now if we could get another guard in the rotation to smooth things out.
Emelogu is going to have to have the game of his life if Smith can't play.
Trevor Thompson and van Zegeren will start, Smith is a game time decision.
I know this makes me a poor fan because I really want to go to the game but I REALLY don't want to leave my nice warm townhouse to drive to Cassell :(
Eddie with a nice three.
Emelogu with another three!
Just remember, we're playing Syracuse, so #ZoneIsForCowards is in effect
van Zegeren can't hit free throws, what's new?
Smith nails a long three! 13-11 Cuse.
Grant is a beast.
Hanging in there, 16-11 Cuse.
Great shot by Raines.
we literally seem to have no offensive game plan, its like my rec bball team where we stood around passing and eventually put up a 3...quickly losing faith in JJ
We can't make any FTs whatsoever.
Sigh, Cuse pulling away 27-15.
We aren't doing so hot on the defensive boards either. Giving up too many second chances to this good a team.
Smith nails another three, 27-18.
The real crime here is that the spread was only -11.5. Hope you were all on 'Cuse
31-24 Cuse. 3:52 to go in the first half.
35-29 with 25 seconds left in the half
35-29 Cuse at halftime.
Im not an X and O guy but the Hokies look anemic on offense. I wish we had a French for basketball too so I could learn this sport too
6 ppt game at the half! Let's Go!
Hokies!
Cuse didn't have any FG in the last 6 minutes of the half. Good defense!
Good defense but no offense other than Smith throwing bombs in from near midcourt
Down 6 at the half? Not bad guys. Keep it close and make some good freebies near the end and we might could pull this off.
Come on Hokies!
Cuse pulling away.
A few things Ive noticed this team does to hurt itself are similar or the same as last year. Bad inbound plays, moving behind screens on defense, poor movement on offense are just a few. This needed to be corrected in the offseason and it wasnt. I dont think its fair to judge JJ's coaching ability while playing Cuse, but he isnt progressing this team with the basics yet
When you run plays, isn't that supposed to create movement on offense? Doesn't matter who you play, you should be able to move off the ball while running plays. I feel that is a big thing on JJ still. Does not seem like the offense has changed that much.
72-52 final. Cuse wins.
We just go on these ridiculous scoring droughts. It is so tough to watch sometimes.
I was there and that was that was terribly frustrating to watch. We have good athletes but not a lot of guys with high basketball IQ or awareness.
or a coaching staff equipped to improve those deficiencies.
If anyone wants to talk basketball, I wrote a quick take here and would love to hear from anyone: http://iarevirginiatech.blogspot.com/2014/01/virginia-tech-is-doing-its-...
I turned it on at 50-40 SU lead. After about 5 possessions with turnovers and not even getting a shot off, the Hokies finally got off a shot....from half court! At least it hit the rim! But, of course, nobody was under the basket to rebound.
Dan Bonner had this classic quip, "Well, it's not normally advisable to shoot half court shots with 10:00 left in the game." Dan used to coach the women's team at R.E. Lee HS in Staunton, maybe he'd be interested in taking over for JJ?
IMHO they could use an assistant coach whose job it is to employ a motion offense. There are plenty of them out there. I generically liked the Maryland double stack, but you should really cater it to your players.
The team will still lose because of poor PG play, but if they learn how to pass and move, it may give them a much better team next year after the PGs have improved over the summer.
