D is playing pretty solid. They are defending the run fairly well and finally got some pressure on Howell at the end of that last drive. O is playing pretty good and I like the gameplan, but I know we are going to need to attack down the field in the passing game at some point.

Game plan to limit UNC possessions and shorten the game is working perfectly. Only issue for this being 3 scores is the fumble, but that's an execution error, not a gameplan error, though I didn't love that play call when we fumbled.

I get it, but if your AD just last year had to come out and basically lay his neck out for you to keep the fanbase from rioting (and one of the reasons was shit like that), I'm stepping on the gas whenever I can if I'm him.

I'm not sure what you are implying, but I can say that fuente is our coach for now and at least this year. I just want to clarify that.
My biggest problem with the conservative play before the half is that it signals to the players that the coaches don't believe in them.
As a coach, you inspire confidence from your players by going for it. That tells your guys "I believe in you and trust you to make the right decisions".
It also signals that you're doing what's working. Nothing stopping Fuente from opening it up later.

A good bit of this win was defense, but a good bit was also the offensive strategy, that burned that clock like there was no tomorrow, all game.

I get your perspective and you are right in the first half. But if it wasn't for the D in the second half coming up with turnovers and big stops, we may have lost the game. The O lost the TOP in the second half and the strategy failed. We weren't able to adapt.
For sure, the defense won that game. The offense failed on execution multiple times.
There was a missed punt and a lost fumble in the red zone. We left points on the field. Lots of them. Burmeister hasn't shown as much growth as we'd hoped he would.
Did we deserve to win that game? The defense did, the offense did not.
Still, right now, I'll take it.
I too am wondering how much of this was good VT play and how much was UNC playing really crappy at times. Looking forward to hear French do an analysis as I'd love to get his take.
