FSU: Loss, but awesome game. We Arrived.
Auburn: Loss, but so close. We are still in it.
Kansas: Loss. WTF? Kansas? That did not just happen.
Cincinnati: Win. Ok, maybe we are back on track.
Stanford: As Andy wrote, head first into a buzzsaw. (Did you not write "loss" intentionally? Nicely done if so)
Michigan: Fucking Pac-10 Refs can burn in hell. Otherwise, shot ourselves in the foot too many times.

That Auburn loss stung. Undefeated SEC team. Went for it on a 4th and goal and dropped a wide open pass, missed a FG (if I remember correctly).

That Kansas loss was the anti-beamer ball. KU blocks a FG, Talib takes a pick six in. And Beamer took a hard stance on benching Ore for part of the game.

The Stanford was the only loss IMHO in which we were not on the same talent level as the other team, both in the coaching (Harbaugh was coaching circles around Frank and Co) and talent (Andrew Luck; hows he doing these days?).

Michigan: covered ad nasuem in here, but a fake FG that got caught by a OL and rekicked for a real FG, 2 jump ball TD's by a glorified RB, Beamers Fake FG (Wtf), and Danny Coale...

Great article Andy!!! When you put that spin on it I don't feel so bad about the 1-5 record..I mean...it's still upsetting but at least we're not LOLUVA...amirite?

Onward and upward

We're the only team in Virginia that has played for, and won, a BCS game. That will be true forever, unless the BCS somehow is resurrected.

"Exit light..."

I just threw up in my mouth a little thinking about the Kansas game.

It hurts to hear the truth, but this just further justifies our struggles in big games. Here's to hoping that 2014 is the start of another run at legitimizing our status as a national contender in the years to come.

Very nice read Andy, a very tough read at that. It stings looking back on those losses and seeing how close we were to being 5-1( our team was not ready to play Stanford) but we held our own in the rest of the games. It's hurts even worse listening to jumbo fisher and Gus talk about how their players make the plays when they are in a tough spot and being comfortable in game wining situations, championship situations that is. I really hope we can shake off the big game struggles and finally fill that trophy case one day.

There are wolves and there are sheep, I am the sheep dog

I will always remember the VT BCS era Sugar bowls for inexplicably turning down points to for it on 4th and short early in the game and poor special teams play. Seriously, something happens to Beamer when he goes down to N.O.

Total yardage:
2000 sugar bowl VT - 503 FSU - 359
2005 sugar bowl VT - 375 Auburn - 299
2012 sugar bowl VT - 377 Michigan - 184

salt in the wound. .. natural selection at its finest

salt in the wound dude. It was bad enough without the stats.

I had to walk away from my computer, this was making me chuckle too loudly for work conference call

Thanks for that.....

Uh did we just watch Someone commit suicide??

The real question is if it was real or part of a show.

It's still remarkable that Virginia Tech and Oregon are the only "outsider" programs to ever play for the national championship. It's very hard to be the Cinderella team in football - that it took the most physically gifted QB to ever step on a college field and a whole lot of luck shows just how hard it is to play with the big boys.

And Oregon came within 3 of winning it, and VT had a lead in the 4th..

Did anyone watch any of the US Army All American high school game this past weekend?

I really got to thinking about VT and our lack of success in the big game, and how it plays into our lack of recruiting success (until the most recent cycles at least on paper) for several years there.

I was thinking this because of the last announcement of the day was Joe Mixon - 5 * kid out of California. During his announcement he picked Oklahoma over UCLA, Cal, and 1 other big school which I forget. He specifically said that his decision was tipped to OU because of their win against Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.

These BCS games (and losses) have not helped VT the last few years, and recruits absolutely pay attention to this stuff.

Which reminds me - there was a kid that committed to the lesser VA school during the game. How is London landing these top tier recruits?

Don't you know? According to London they are building a dynasty over there in magical Hooland. Who wouldn't want to be a part of it?

In all seriousness I have know idea what he is feeding them, I think those 7 on 7 coaches must have something to do with it. I think eventually recruits will not fall for his nonsense and come to the Tech.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

I think eventually recruits will not fall for his nonsense and come to the Tech.

I agree - top recruits want to go to winning programs. As with the All American game this past weekend, each one of those players is thinking "what program will give me the best opporunity to play in the NFL."

Now, for the record, UVA has put some kids in the pros (mainly OL's and TE's, a few others) but so have we - and we have won games, and have been to bowl games.

...and we've beaten them for an entire papacy...

That's what I said on another thread. It's also what one of my co-workers said.

True Hokies STICK IT IN!!!

STICK IT IN Army of Virginia Tech
