PFF ranks VT at #16

It's a nice nod but I think rankings in the first several weeks are relatively meaningless - outside of a few guarantees (Bama being great, for example) the pre-season rankings are a complete crapshoot and that crapshoot just extends into the first few weeks as the truth slowly comes out on some teams. Ultimately I think UNC is a good team that will win 9+ games and maybe even finish in the top 20. Perhaps 10 was a bit too generous for them out of the gate - perhaps VT is going to be really good this year. We don't really know after just one game.

DID YOU KNOW.... that opposing QBs had a better chance of "insert something obnoxiously difficult and nearly impossible" than getting a completion against Caleb Farley?

I like it.

I know the whole "VT plays better as an underdog" and "would prefer to earn our ranking" thing has been something of a mantra on here for awhile, but is that actually true? I would love to see the actual numbers, because they ain't good the last few years.

While I wouldn't go so far as to call it a dominant win, it was most definetely a good solid win against a team that may not be #10, but is most certainly a good top 20 team with a QB that will be drafted high barring some significant injury. If King doesn't fumble that ball and a couple other things here and there, we are all talking about how the Hokies blew the doors off UNC.

Take the love, and then get ready to beat Midde Tenn. and prepare to embarrass the cousins in Morgantown. If the good guys are sitting at 3-0 I will feel pretty damn good about this season vs my expectations.

Not even a single vote in the AP poll

AP hasn't published yet.

Their website seems to be mixing last week and this week.

19 in the AP. It was all jacked up until a few minutes ago.

That sounds right. I knew we had at least one vote because Brett McMurphy had us in the top 15.

No. 19 Virginia Tech moved into the rankings after beating Atlantic Coast Conference rival North Carolina. This is the sixth straight season the Hokies have been ranked for at least one week, though Virginia Tech has not finished in the Top 25 since 2017. The Tar Heels fell 14 spots to No. 24.

this isn't a good stat.

Mediocre teams have ugly stats. I don't know how anyone would expect differently.

Also a friendly reminder that in nearly all of those seasons we were ranked at some point. My point being, as stoked as I am about the last win, I'm waiting for us to tack on a few more before proclaiming the Hokies as bak.

Don't proclaim it but hope for it. Enjoy the highs instead of safeguarding for the lows. I am pretty damn excited for this team but I am not buying ACC championship tickets yet.
