Louisville's hiring of Bobby Petrino for his second stint as its football coach is imminent, multiple sources told Yahoo Sports.
Athletic director Tom Jurich is expected to meet with Petrino's agent, David Dunn, Wednesday night to finalize contract details. The school plans to introduce Petrino Thursday. The Louisville Athletic Association's personnel committee has called a 10 a.m. ET meeting Thursday to discuss a personnel matter. The committee is expected to approve a contract for Petrino, and he will be formally introduced thereafter.
Yahoo's Pat Forde who is reporting the news lives in Louisville and worked at The Courier-Journal back in the day. He's connected, and isn't going to be wrong here.
What do y'all think?

I'd have to look at his contract to make sure that there are motorcycle driving classes included at no charge.
And a well paid spot on his staff for his mistress
It's actually a good hire. Arkansas was on the brink of doing something special then imploding, and it starts with Petrino.
I'm sure he will have quite a few contract stipulations, but this could be the best hire Louisville could have made.
Yep, as a big a douche as Petrino is, he will make Louisville better, and in turn make the ACC better. However, I we can snag Ford from them.
Make Louisville better? Didn't they just have 11 and 12 win seasons?
in the Big East? Is that FCS now?
AAC actually not he Big East any more
Now whenever I go to any CFB website and check the standings I go to the first listed conference and stare at it for a minute wondering who the hell all the teams are then I remember the Big East changed it's name to try and stay relevant.
haha yea it bothers me because whether its checking standings/scores on ESPN or playing NCAA I always accidentally click on the AAC not ACC
And they didn't voluntarily change it. When the catholic schools (basketball) left they sued to keep the name. The "remaining" schools choose AAC because it would put them first in the listings.
I have to disagree with you on this. I think Bobby Petrino is a dirtbag and Louisville is sending the wrong message here.
Read this article...

"hired his mistress to work in the Arkansas football office, got in a motorcycle accident with her, then lied to his employer about the situation. That guy. To do things the right way."
The guy can coach for sure, but Louisville will get what they deserve with this hire.
agreed 100% - this hire is an embarassment to Louisville, and I think really shows where the AD's priorities lie. I think in the long run, this sets Louisville back tremendously.
This is an unbelievably lazy and horrible hire. Is Petrino a good coach? Yes. But he is also a horrible human being and is not someone that the ACC is going to be pleased to welcome into their conference.
Note to VT's new AD: Seth Greenberg is available to replace JJ (/sarcastica)
Since when did being a horrible human being matter with regards to football coaching?
I wouldn't want my coach trying to persuade the players not to attend a funeral in which they were a pallbearer. I might say that's a moral issue.

Also I am upset I just referenced a Pete Thamel article. He is a turd.
I mean purely in terms of in game it doesnt matter at all. Off the field though we are still talking about impressionable 18 year olds that are going to spend the majority of four years with him. I know I wouldnt want my kid around him. But if we are talking about being a football coach in a vacuum I guess it doesnt.
I just don't see how the "conference's opinion" or what have you matters. If Loserville wants to hire a douchebag, so be it.
Paul Johnson is a Douchebag
Al Golden is a Douchebag
Butch Davis was a Douchebag
Bobby Bowden was a gigantic douchebag
Al Groh was a douchbag
It's not like there hasn't been a host of douchebag coaches in this conference.
I won't argue with your list of D-Bags..but the one thing Petrino has that none of those guys have is a reputation for the type of behavior that gets people fired and embarrasses an organization. PJ, Al Golden, Butch Davis*, Bobby Bowden and Al Groh wouldn't get caught up in an adultery scandal...
*Butch Davis' NCAA violations are the closest thing to that type of behavior..but I'm referring more to socially shunned acts...like adultery
Would like to hear your reasons why you think Golden, Bowden, and Paul Johnson are dbags....
Well for starters Al Golden is from New Jersey, and we all know what comes out of Jersey....
Careful, now...we have several kids we are trying to recruit from Jersey.
I came out of NJ, so according to you, I'm a Dbag. My parents will be so proud.
Please don't make generalizations that are completely subjective. It is a poor reflection on the people of this site.
I'm from NJ also...so thanks for that.
I sure hope you are joking with that NJ comment.
Al Golden is a class act and a stand up individual. While I will never like Miami, I do believe he is the right person to clean that program up and has taken the steps to do so. I would welcome him in Blacksburg, post CFB, if it came down to it.
Can't you people tell this was written in the sarcastica font?! The four periods should've given it away. I laughed at this.
Eggplant?
HERE HERE! Love that it got downvoted! NJ people so insecure
I'm not from new Jersey but this sort of stuff doesn't belong on this forum.
I'm not supporting your bashing of NJ but... It's 'hear hear' ***
Hey at least we aren't Pennsylvania
"NJ people so insecure"
Now thats a pretty broad generalization. All NJ people are insecure?
Well yes. Not many of them at all are securely tied down.
Typical Jersey joke from someone who's probably never been there, but that's not the point I'm here to make
Al Golden, while he does coach for Miami and can seem off-putting, he seems like a stand-up guy. He took over a Temple team that was terrible on the field and terrible in the classroom. Temple was losing scholarships because of their terrible APR rate(or whatever that is) and totally changed the culture and improved the APR and graduation rates tremendously. Yes he does wear a suit and tie on the field and some arrogance that comes from coaching Miami, but everything I've heard about him is he's a class act.
Guess I should of made the Jersey Shore reference a little more obvious.
YA MUFF CABBAGE!!!!!!!!!!!
hey man, next time you can just say Nevada. I'm from there. A lot of dbags come from there and I don't give a damn if you make a joke at it/my expense. sheesh
I was pretty sure you meant this anyway:
PJ and Beamer exchanged words through the media a few years ago. Beamer said that chop blocking is dangerous and does like it. PJ responded with something to the effect of 'He's just whining becomes his team loss'. The two have since patched it up.
Bowden (similar to Spurrier) kind of has a reputation of being a bit of a politician. He often played the media and sort of played his school and put jimbo in an awkward position a few years ago.
To be a head coach you have to be extremely competitive. Ask any former athlete; it's hard to turn the competitive focus on/off. This is why the best coaches, athletes, CEOs, politicians, etc. often come off as 'douchebags'. They want to win, and the media always seems to capture them in the middle of their battles. When they lose, they show emotion and people think their sore losers. When they win, they show emotion and they look cocky/arrogant. It's really a lose/lose for any head coach, unless they go out of their way to craft an image for themselves. Even then, they look fake.
Regarding Petrino, he had a problem staying loyal to his significant other, but 50% of Americans also do. By hiring him, UL has essentially calculated a risk/reward; they believe that Petrino will bring effective results at an acceptable cost. While I wouldn't want my kid to play for him, there's thousands of high school athletes that would jump at the opportunity.
Another side-topic: choosing when to leave in college athletics is tough. Unless you take off four recruiting cycles, you're always going to be 'lying to your kids'. What if you want to advance your career? What if your board with your job and want a change? What if your offered more money elsewhere? While I think a college coach should ALWAYS wait until the offseason to change jobs (cough, cough BRIAN KELLY), other situations are often grey.
CPJ is a a$$hole, but I am not sure about a Dbag.
Everyone who got downvoted because some people don't have a sense of humor or their skin is as thin as paper got an upvote from me.
Great hire, he's a fantastic coach who made one ginormous blunder. No denying he's a richard, but many football coaches are.
And Louisville knows what they are getting into. I've got so much respect for Jurich, one of the best in the business. Louisville won't miss a beat, and may even hang on to those WR's recruits we are trying to poach.
Just my opinion but this isn't a "just one mistake" situation. Petrino has proven over his entire career that he lacks any kind of moral character.
+1... read Frank's book... Petrino called Frank a MF behind his back when he went to apologize for MV5's Dumervil stomp. Not a good guy
But, again, he's a football coach. The "moral character" bar is pretty low.
Which ginormous blunder are you referring to?
The one where he left the Atlanta Falcons high and dry partway into the season because they lost MV7 to jail and got bailed out by PigSuey?
Or the one where he had an affair and wrecked his bike while his mistress was riding along?
I thought he was referring to when he left Louisville the first time right after signing a 10 year extension. The man is slime and scum, but he is one of the better offensive coaches in football (NFL and College). That being said Louisville better be writing in both a morals clause, but also a clause that if he quits he owes them money.
WKU knew going in that he was likely to bail if he showed that he still had the talent and included a 1.2 million parachute for them. I wonder if he is paying it, or Louisville is?
I bet Petrino has to go by the bursar's office each afternoon for his daily pay allotment.
This is like remarrying your ex-wife. Some people just never learn.
He is a good football coach but if they hire him U of LoL will have the sleaziest 1-2 punch in college athletics with Pitino and Petrino.
edit:
Its hard for Cardinal fans to care; they are reighning NCAA Basketball champs, so there is that.
So it looks like Petrino is The Magic Man...
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice...
Great move if you can overlook his "morals"
He's never been in trouble with the NCAA.
Louisville will be a national title contender in the ACC.
Petrino and Petino; their names sound so similar that they can probably swap mistresses
Very valid point from French:
Well as long as he can swing 9-7 over the next 2 ACC seasons he should be fine.
Petrino will have an uphill battle when it comes to recruiting, at least somewhat.
Every opposing coach is going to bring up these transgressions with the recruit and his family and ask them if this is the kind of guy they want to be teaching their child to become a man.
I don't know...
If TimeCop can lure 5 star recruits with such effect strategies as "YOU!" and formerly offer scholarships to a losing program that is only going down, I think Petrino has a pretty good chance to recruit in.
That being said I absolutely hate the guy and think Louisville made a major mistake.
Its night and day. Coach Fondue, while a laughing stock to us, doesn't have a record or history of leaving jobs after making commitments, abandoning a team, cheating on his wife, lying to his employer, etc. I think London is a good guy and, all joking aside, probably does a good job of teaching these kids how to be men. If it came down to London or Petrino, I wouldn't even blink before sending my son to learn under London.
No argument with me about Petrino being a lowlife and if that were my only two choices my son would also be in the loving care of London. However, except when Petrino first made his name at Louisville, and nobody really knew any anything about him, when has he not been infamous for being a horrible person? Yet somehow he keeps getting hired and he keeps pulling recruits. If anything I bet he is quite charismatic in recruiting.
It's a solid point, although winning is a strong recruiting angle as well. As we know with college football, if you can get players that fit your system, stars don't matter as much.
Agree with you...would you want your son to be learning from Petrino?
I have a feeling that his post-crash mugshot will be making a lot of apperances here. And for that I am both thankful and optimistic about the future.
May he never beat the Hokies
No worries, we don't play them until 2020 (and it's not like they are going to beat Klemson and F$U to get to the ACCCCG)...and he won't stay that long.
Then again, he may be "back" to LOLousiville by then (assuming his 3/4 season per team standard...he will be on his 8th coaching job by then).
This guy's off to a fantastic start in terms of surrounding himself with quality people and showing he's a "changed man" who will do things the right way. /Sarcastica
He is recruiting a Douchebag All-Star team...
This thread could break the record for the number of times "douchebag" is typed.
Are we close to the record yet??
Speaking of Douchebags....Did you read that Dennis Rodman thread?
Douchebag....Douchebag.
