For those who don't want to give it the hit:
Zumwalt had 10 tackles and an interception that he returned 43 yards in the Bruins' 42-12 victory over Virginia Tech in the Hyundai Sun Bowl. Then there were the plays that aren't so obvious in the box score, such as the hit that knocked Hokie quarterback Logan Thomas out of the game and the two additional tackles negated by penalties
So they praise him for a cheap late hit that knocked the qb out of the game and was penalized by the refs. Stay classy ESPN.

ESPN will never be confused with "Classy". Remember their the SEC mouthpiece!!
Incredible.
ESPN lost all respect from me years ago - this kind of crap just makes it worse.
While I don't think the hit was that bad, just had an unfortunate outcome. You don't praise a guy for giving another player a concussion. That's just dumb, I can understand wanting to hurt another player (knock them out for a couple plays, but no real long-term damage, just let them know you're there), but to actually applaud a player for injuring someone is not ok.
That's just effing amazing they call it out as a positive point.
A penalty hit that injures a player named as a reason he gets an award.
I wasn't anti ESPN before but, I am now.
cancelling my subscription today.
CBS did the game. ABC is ESPN parent. Kids are going to be p***ed we're going to Universal. NBC is my new champion.
Reality is that bloggers, sites like these are the only media outlets that have any integrity left whatsoever.
I do like HBO's Bryant Gumbel show. Probably owned by someone I don't like.
Did I call them the SEC mouthpiece, I meant SEC TOOL!
SEC mouthtool FTW.
Nice!!
Idk if I'm making this up (I probably am) but has anyone else noticed how many of the people that used to report for ESPN have left? It's an extremely hollow victory that Im probably making up, but I think since ESPN has gotten so powerful, its quality has begun its downward slide and many reporters noticed and bolted
Disney in general is on a downhill slide if you ask me.
Only until Star Wars comes out...
there is so much about this I don't like.
That kid is just a bastard that makes illegal hits. Cheater.
Dirty Hits McGee! The kid played the game dirty but where were the refs to toss him? Rules are great but if no one's going to actually enforcement them then you get this. He laid AT LEAST 3 hits where he led with his helmet. Great job with the research and journalism yet again ESPN!
In other ESPN news: Johnny Manziel, Johnny Johnny Johnny Mike and Mike and Johnny Manziel!!!!
Tim Tebow? Who dat. Johnny Manziel!!!
I've had my fill of this:
I'm so tires of hearing this (if 1st link didn't work).
Yea I didn't think the hit was illegal to be honest. It was one of the biggest hits I've seen all year but I didn't think there was any malicious intent from the guy. That being said, it's disgusting that ESPN praises you for knocking another player out of the game.
Crown of the helmet to the jaw. Should have been an ejection.
he had to be on his tip toes to even reach Logan's head. I'd love to see the montage of all the tackles he made, leading with his helmet, during that game.
stand corrected
Also the f'ing arms tucked to his f'ing chest. I hate setting this picture since every time I see it I get madder. The kid is playing the wrong way. I don't know if he's a bad kid or of some of his coaches have some explaining to do....
I wasn't swayed until that pic. That kid is a missle.
He downright intended to do it, and I'll never be told otherwise now.
If that's the way it's to be played, then fine.
Pray you're nowhere near the playoffs.
If you watch it frame by frame, he tucks his chin and arms in at the last possible moment. They even kept showing him on the sideline bleeding from his forehead. If that is his form, by all accounts of that game it must be, and he makes it to the NFL, he's gonna get seriously hurt very quickly, either by his own doing, or by someone retaliating against him.
Wouldn't it be a shame if he plays Houston and Brown cuts his knees out?
The officials thought it was illegal (thus the 15 yards). Should've been and ejection (why is wasn't I have no idea). Take his stats away from that point and it's not as impressive of a game.
booooooooooooo
This hit was absolutely illegal. I was spitting mad when I saw it and then I was worried for Logan. Honestly, he's lucky to walk away with only a concussion.
ESPN promoting the hit as a great play that didn't count on the stat sheet leaves me dumbfounded.
How do we give ESPN the finger over this? Twitter? Can we email someone? Seriously, this shit makes me want to fight somebody - and I am NOT a fighter.
Expressing displeasure via social media (especially Twitter and Facebook) seems to be the way people try to get results lately. The more public it is, the more likely they are to respond. Emailing via some generic "contact us" page is never going to get anything done. I, too, am outraged that they are glorifying this hit. Targeting or not (and it was, as I have stated several times), penalized plays should NEVER be glorified, especially in this case where they are honoring him because of it. Disgusting.
Thug hit, but I haven't seen him enough to know if he's a thug player. After Thomas ran over players on the attack defensively, he "was targeted" for some payback. Hitting him while he was in no position to hit back does not a man make. Payback for zumwalt will probably come when he's about 50 and has a fried brain.

We aren't the only ones thinking that he's dirty...
Logan is wowing the scouts with his 40 times...
Zumwalt is turning heads during his 40 as well:

The link is SFW the video on the page is NSFW
Good to see his true colors shining through.
Well now, let's not jump to conclusions. He could have been perfectly happy with his 40 time. Maybe his neck is still just a little sore though.
6 4 235 6.76 40 is a recipe for disaster in today's NFL.... but who knows, maybe some idiot will let him line up and try to smash RBs with the crown of his helmet until someone gets really hurt.

Analysis
Strengths
Very competitive with a fiery, on-field temperament. Explosive hitter. Throws his body around recklessly and times up the blitz well (disruptive presence). Is around the ball a lot. Very good football intelligence -- lines up teammates and makes adjustments. Versatile and has played all linebacker positions and contributed as a fullback in short-yardage situations. Defensive tone-setter -- has a love for the game and it shows. Plays big on big stages -- capped his career with co-MVP effort in the Sun Bowl vs. Virginia Tech, when he knocked Logan Thomas unconscious and returned an interception 43 yards.
Just another exhibit for why the NCAA players will have unions.
This thug got the MVP of the Sun Bowl as well, and mainly due to that hit.
Insult to injury.
World class P.O.S. !!!!!!!!!!
6.76 sec for a NFL LB is garbage...
6.76 is a typo. He ran a 4.76. Not especially fast, but not devastatingly slow like 6.76 would be.
