Stiney to...LSU?

Apparently he's interviewing to be their OL coach. I don't make the news...I just report it.

Huh. For what position?

Edit - nevermind, it's in the post. O-Line job. I guess that's a step up? I'd hate to lose him right now, especially with this class coming together so nicely...

It was a catch

OL coach

That's an interesting development. Is it OC, recruiting, or just positional. I can't really see OC after what just happened, but then again the Mad Hatter has his nickname for a reason. At least his insanity is more productive than detrimental.

It's for their offensive line job. Hierarchy wise it seems like a lateral move, although The Hat and LSU can probably pay more than Frank and VT.

This is the third time (that I can remember) Stiney's name has come up with regards to another job. He put a smile on his face and kept coming to work after his demotion, maybe he wants a new opportunity? Either way it would be a loss for Tech on the recruiting front, and it would give another SEC school access to the 757.

Completely agree. He is one of our best recruiters, and would be a great addition to the staff and recruiting efforts of LSU. Definitely would be a loss for VT. LSU may be looking for someone to compete with Bama/Florida/Georgia/South Carolina in getting a solid footprint in the 757. LSU, from what I have seen, has not pulled many athletes from us - Bama and others have.

Stability. Has to be in the back of his mind. Its such a rough life for assistant coaches, working at the whim not only of 18-21 year old kids, but of coaches, fanbases, administration. Anything can cause sheer destruction to your stability and homelife. Miss out on a few recruits, have a few key injuries, have a head coach get in a motorcycle wreck with his mistress, change in AD, etc.

For Stiney to leave the Shell of Protectivity offered by Frank and his staff would be a big step. But, to that end, no risk and no reward. Stiney has likely reached the pinnacle of his career if he stays. And Frank will be stepping down in the near'er future, so that protection may be coming to an end anyway.

generating buzz over new schools in a move to leverage a contract renegotiation = genius

I have a hard time believing he doesn't realize just how cherry his situation is here. Way overpaid to be a TE coach/recruiting coord, IMO, and I'd be willing to bet in an honest moment, in his opinion as well.

Took a relatively minor pay cut w/his demotion from OC rather than going out on his ass, which is SOP pretty much everyhwere, and rightfully so.

I love what he does for recruiting, and think he's doing a fine job w/ our TEs. And as I said, I don't believe its the case, but if he's truly playing this game in the hopes of getting a sweeter deal here than he already has, then he's an asshat.

And if everyone here is right that thinks his value as a recruiter is that big, and an irrecoverable asset loss if he leaves, then VT football is in bigger trouble than we all thought.

Good for him. I hope he stays with the good guys though.

If I remember correctly, Stiney was rumored to have interviewed with LSU for the same job back in 2012. Something must have made a good impression on the Mad Hatter for Stiney to get another invite.

Choosing either living in Blacksburg or Baton Rouge would be like choosing either unlimited bacon or stabbing yourself in the thigh with a butter knife.

In my opinion, of course.

Leonard. Duh.

Never been to Baton Rouge so I can't tell which is bacon and which is the butter knife...

Why do you say that? I had a great time in Baton Rouge when I went to VT vs LSU.

You must've skipped the game then.

Or just blackedo...... Not remembered it?

I prefer to use the term "African-Americaned Out". More politically correct.

Interestingly, I find "African-Americaned Out" to be more offensive given the context..

Wow, I need to pay attention. That was not smart.

Probably how you're feeling right now...

Update: source thought he overheard Stiney saying "LSU" in the hallway of VT's football offices. Apparently he was just sneezing and "Ah-choo!" sounds a lot like "LSU" when heard from afar and when motivated by generating headlines.

"Exit light..."

This guys generally good and he seems pretty confident Stiney's not going anywhere as well. (3rd entry from the top) http://footballscoop.com/the-scoop

I remember reading that last year. The funny thing is even though they won't admit it I'm sure 90% of the time they have the same sources.

Of course Time cop was offered the same job and Associate HC but turned it down, per Time Cop.

I think Mike Barber won this round:

As BrianM11 pointed out on Twitter, CoachingSearch corrected their post about Stinespring.

LSU: Correcting an earlier report on the Ticker, LSU is not interviewing Virginia Tech assistant Bryan Stinespring. The coach the Tigers, at the least, have inquired about is Virginia Tech offensive line coach Jeff Grimes.

Interesting development. I guess LSU liked what they saw from the Auburn O-Line.

@Fightin_Gobbler

Go Hokies

Go Falcons

Now this would be devastating.

but not happening

I would hope Grimes would stick around for more than one season
