To each their own, but if you think 21 points will win this game, you might be the most optimistic Hokie I've ever come across....Yea, Wiscy collapsed, but it also takes quite an output to hang a 31 spot, especially in the 4th qtr. Makes me curious at what the highest output in a single qtr for each qtr this staff has put up...

Hey, I thought we would need to score 35 to beat UNC and we only needed 11. I think our defense has really surpassed expectations so I'm shifting my expectations a bit. I think with an extra week to prep and having the Lane crowd at night our defense will be able to stifle ND.
Before the season I would have said that we need to score at least 35 to beat ND. But after the show our defense (and crowd) put on back in September I feel more confident that we only need to get 21, maybe 24 to win. Surely our offense can come up with 21, at home? I don't think it's impossible but I wouldn't bet on it.

Fair enough. I think the biggest thing is the offense holding the defense back with too many 3-out punts and ND controlling the field position game. If 21 points is going to win it, then there has to be some longer sustained drives that pins ND back numerous times and making them drive the field to score. The D has been a welcome surprise this year, but the O is going to have to pick up the slack at some point. (damn, that sounds familiar.........)

The lead up to this game gives us a huge advantage that can't be ignored. We got Richmond and a bye week, they got Wisconsin and Cincy. Am I naïve to think that the offense can't script a few drives between now and then that allows us to take an early lead on them? With the way our D has been playing, I see no reason why we couldn't replicate the UNC gameplan.

This was announced a while ago that it was going to be on ACCN. I'm pretty sure it and a couple of Clemson games are being used as negotiating tools to try and get Comcast onboard.

Actually, Devonte has a point. I can only know one person I ever met at Tech who had an orange hoodie. I never got any long sleeve orange gear until they started alternating the Effect shirts.

I unfortunately have to forfeit going on accounts of NICU safety.
I will drown myself in wings and liquor all day and hopefully be so messed up that:
A: If we lose = I wont remember
B: If we win = it'll be close to midnight and the neighborhood wont be awake to see me streaking up the quad and to the gymnasium.

She's good. Just had surgery #2 today and had a g-tube put in. Now starts 4 weeks of getting nutrients from mom's milk while weaning off of IV nutrition. After that, just a few more weeks of allowing the procedure we're considering to take form and finish its thing, and she should be home by Thanksgiving to watch VT beat UVA on TV.

One of the proudest moments of your life will be walking out of that NICU. I don't know you but from one parent of a NICU grad to another (soon), best wishes.

We actually have NICU experience. Baby girl #1 had a brief stent herself 2 years ago. But this is by far a much longer experience. Not even a month old and she's got a million dollar penthouse apartment at the top of Roanoke Memorial with heli pad on top.
But I'm hoping Thanksgiving is still a good timeline, it'll be nice for all the family to be in town and everyone will finally get to meet her.

Sounds like quite the setup and I hope everything goes well. My first spent most of her life in the NICU unfortunately so it was quite the relief to leave the place.

My niece was in the NICU for three months --premie in the late 1980s- weighed two pounds 4 ounces. - sis had to use cabbage patch kids diaper cause they didn't gave premie ones back then--now a healthy thirty-something. hope that gives you some encouragement

Hey everyone, I just bought a ticket to this game and it's going to be my first ever experience in Lane; needless to say I'm hella hyped. I went to the ACCCG in Charlotte back in 2010 and I've been to Blacksburg in the offseason but having lived in South Carolina the majority of my life its been tough to make a game before. Does the TKP still have a tailgating scene? I'm looking to make the most out of this since I'll be going by myself

Come to Lot 18! We're right beside of the road on Duck Pond Drive near the Smithfield Rd. intersection. We always have lots of good food and beverages to share.

More than welcome to join out group in the German Club lot. We'll have a good group of Hokies and ND fans (family and family friends). We plan on starting out tailgate no later than noon with it being a night game... Let me know if interested and we can exchange phone #'s or email

I've tailgated in most spots (not Lot 18 yet haha) and I think the German Club lot is by far the best spot to tailgate. Nice grassy area so the sun isn't radiating on you, beautiful clubhouse with a place to sit and watch other games on a big projector screen and really nice bathrooms (vs don jons), never over crowded where your tailgate set up is bumping up against others (but plenty enough so a solid tailgate scene), extra shade from trees, and an easy 5 minute walk to stadium.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I'm a German Club tailgater and I agree it is probably the best spot on campus. I usually get there early enough to claim my spot right behind the stone wall at the entrance.

I really hope Xfinity gets their head out of their ass and picks up ACCN again before this game, but I have little hope... and unfortunately can't get to a bar that night since my wife works, putting me on kid duty...
Going to have to find a pirate stream...

Do you have ESPN+? So far this season I've been able to watch the ACC Network Games on ESPN+. Just checked and it shows up on their list for Saturday night. Something to consider. I get ESPN+ with my wireless plan.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I think the ACC Network Extra (Richmond game) ones are on ESPN+ for everyone, and the actual ACC Network games are based on your cable package. I was able to watch the Richmond game on ESPN+ with Xfinity, but the game Saturday is only showing up as the ACC Network for me. No ESPN+.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
On the Watch ESPN master list, it's shown with a key (locked) beside it and ACCN. Assume that means it won't be streamed on ESPN+ without access to the ACCN. So Xfinity subscribers are screwed.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I hope so too, but I think keeping ACC Network games limited to subscribers is their only real leverage to getting providers to add the network, right now.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Both sides are sort of at an impasse right now. ESPN/ACCN is going to put every VT and UVA game they can exclusively on ACCN as leverage against Comcast since this is right in the heart of Comcast's market. But unfortunately, VT football is down right now and UVA is...well UVA, so I just don't think it's attracting the eyeballs enough to justify giving in to the carrying fees. So Comcast will probably not budge either.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Yep. Same thing is happening here in NJ/NY with Comcast and the MSG networks. I think providers are realizing that the fees they're paying to RSNs just aren't worth it when the majority of people don't care about sports.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
If anyone wants ESPN+ and already has Hulu (not live, the regular version), look into the bundle option. It includes Hulu, ESPN+, and Disney+ with a decent discount.

2004 was the last time we beat two top ten teams in a single season- if ND beats Cincy we'll get a shot to do it again!
Either way, let's get Lane Stadium ROCKING just like September 3rd! LETS GOOOO

Probably the Hokies if they have Dzansi back, strengthening the O-line. I don't think ND has had much success running the ball and their starting QB is not particularly mobile.

1- this is encouraging
2- this is terrifying. I've lost count of how many teams with shakey run games, or passing games, or defenses have their "breakout" game against the Hokies.

I'm going to take the perspective that, unless we win, the ND game really doesn't matter. I'll be thrilled if VT wins. If they don't, 🤷♂️

I hope Lane is lit (I'm sure it will be)
With our defense and Lane hopping (literally?) we probably only need to score 21 points to win the game. That's doable!
I dont know last time out noter dame scored 41 points off 214 total yards of offense
wisconsins collapse in the 4th was unbelievable
Their QB is a turnover machine. Five against Notre Dame and two in the red zone against Penn State; basically cost them both of those games.
To each their own, but if you think 21 points will win this game, you might be the most optimistic Hokie I've ever come across....Yea, Wiscy collapsed, but it also takes quite an output to hang a 31 spot, especially in the 4th qtr. good thing we've got a cannon attached to our punter's torso

Not on ESPN/ABC national primetime broadcast for inevitable embarassment/letdown...
This was announced a while ago that it was going to be on ACCN. I'm pretty sure it and a couple of Clemson games are being used as negotiating tools to try and get Comcast onboard.
Yea I knew it was on the ACCN since it was announced, it was more towards it just being a night game and we avoid the primetime coverage.
We'll see how the striping effect goes, it'll very likely be a chilly (50 degrees) night, not alot of people have orange hoodies/sweaters
My predominantly maroon and orange wardrobe respectfully disagrees, I enjoy both colors equally. (as long as the orange isn't UT pukesickle shade)
12 hours of drinking before means no hoodie needed
Or clothes!
#nakedeffect
Or as we called it in the Old Corps, "Birthday Bag".
Just put the t shirt on over the sweater. This also works for rain ponchos, shirt over poncho for the color, warm shirt under poncho for weather.
Do you even Hokie?
I've always had at least one of each...hell, my wife (not a VT grad) has several of both.
Actually, Devonte has a point. I can only know one person I ever met at Tech who had an orange hoodie. I never got any long sleeve orange gear until they started alternating the Effect shirts.
I have a very thick, loud orange Carhartt T shirt that would keep me warm on a 50 degree night.
But I won't be there.
I have blaze orange coveralls that are useful in 20 degree temps...but I would have a heat stroke in them Saturday night.
I unfortunately have to forfeit going on accounts of NICU safety.
I will drown myself in wings and liquor all day and hopefully be so messed up that:
A: If we lose = I wont remember

How is your little one doing?

One of the proudest moments of your life will be walking out of that NICU. I don't know you but from one parent of a NICU grad to another (soon), best wishes.

So sorry for your loss.
That's great news! Still praying for her and your family. 🙏

Now she's not expected to be home until Christmas. Just in time to watch back-to-back Tobacco Road basketball school beat downs.
Word of unsolicited advice: don't get fixated on a timetable. Life happens, and it'll do weird things to your head.
Just make sure you have more days that improve on yesterday, than days that go the wrong way.
Had three kids make it through the NICU. Take it a day at a time. Hopefully your tomorrow's get better than your today's. Prayers to you and yours.
Sounds like the right conditions for SaladHokie, or maybe even your cousin SaltineHokie to appear
SaladHokie is actually coming up from Richmond for the game... I'll keep you posted on outbursts.
At that point I will have tailgated for about 10 hours so it's going to be a great day. Maybe not a great game, but definitely a great day.
Hey everyone, I just bought a ticket to this game and it's going to be my first ever experience in Lane; needless to say I'm hella hyped. My best friend and his family are part of the German club gang. So many good times there.
I'm a German Club tailgater and I agree it is probably the best spot on campus. I usually get there early enough to claim my spot right behind the stone wall at the entrance.
So your first experience at Lane is going to be a night game vs Notre Dame.
Not too shabby.
As it's an effect game, wear the right color for your section (someone posted below.)
Have a great time!
Need place to tailgate. Plz advize
I really hope you are being sarcastic because if you go to anywhere besides Lot 18, you will be disowned.
Real stoked for a night game.
Same here! I'll be able to attend this one and the away at BC.
For those who need reminding
Lol really trying to make it as simple as possible there for the student section
I particularly like how we're asking the ND fans to wear Maroon.
They'll look better on TV. (And in person)
Maybe they can spray paint them on the way in. Like a tanning booth, but for stripe effect.
Yea I get it, but now it looks dumb in that corner
What is hilarious is the graphic on our Hokiesports shop page is actually different:
https://shop.hokiesports.com/c-13252
I'm guessing they changed it after this went out into the world.
Probably due to the student sections being general admission now.
Doesn't really matter too much because given the weather Saturday, this game is going to be Poncho Effect.
Last time I checked it looked like the rain was supposed to stop around kickoff so I'm holding out hope.
My experience is that hourly forecasts are garbage outside of 6ish hours.
Hopefully by lunch you'll know how wet you might expect to get.
I really hope Xfinity gets their head out of their ass and picks up ACCN again before this game, but I have little hope... and unfortunately can't get to a bar that night since my wife works, putting me on kid duty...
Going to have to find a pirate stream...
Have you considered a free trial of YouTube TV, Hulu, etc? I've had to do that a few times and as long as you remember to cancel it works well
I'm likely going to have to try. Although it now sounds like we might be at my parents house still because our tile installer tested positive, pushing our move in date FURTHER back🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️

Switch to Fios. Way better service and they havethe ACCN.
Richmond was on the main ACCN channel, MTSU was on ACCN Extra (also available on ESPN+).
You're right! I messed that up.
If anyone wants ESPN+ and already has Hulu (not live, the regular version), look into the bundle option. It includes Hulu, ESPN+, and Disney+ with a decent discount.
I think my parents do. Which is sweet because we're still there since nobody can install the tile for our house until November🤦♂️🤦♂️.

can you imagine what December will look like around here if VT has two top 10 wins and 6 losses? It's gon' be crazy asl
Lol just imagine what our fanbase looks like if a 7-5 VT somehow gets to the ACCCG and then beats Wake 14-10.
Yeah, also this.
Oops. Double post
I don't know about you, but I'm gonna crank it up like ZZ Top
I'll be a lot happier than I should be if that happens.
First time in Blacksburg for a game since 2014 and will have 3 other Hokies with me, tailgating advise would be appreciated
Anyone have ideas for places to stay? Hotels and AirBNB are booked up. I don't need anything nice but don't want to drive back to Richmond. Willing to make friends.
Who has the best running game? Chances of a wet one seem pretty high for next week.
Well, we struggled to score on four downs inside the three yard line. So, notgreatbob.gif
Our running game is not good.
No idea how good Pitts running game is. I assume it is goodEdit - I was thinking of the wrong week/teams...oops

lol, my bad. Don't know what I was thinking. Wrong week. Wrong team. Carry on
Probably the Hokies if they have Dzansi back, strengthening the O-line. I don't think ND has had much success running the ball and their starting QB is not particularly mobile.
If this is to be believed, he is indeed back
SI Article
Although, I believe it was the same against Richmond and Smith was in on the first snap.
Ah yes, Silas Dzanski, the Polish member of our OL.
Wonder if that's SI's typo or VT's?
Also we have a new RB "Jaren" Holston
And Tyjuan Garrett at RDE too!
According to cfbstats.com
Notre Dame is ranked 124/130 nationally with 80.80 rush ypg (5 games played).
VT is ranked 87 with 140.75 rush ypg (4 games played).
1- this is encouraging
2- this is terrifying. I've lost count of how many teams with shakey run games, or passing games, or defenses have their "breakout" game against the Hokies.

I am making my triumphant return to Lot18 on Saturday. I am taking reservations for anyone that would like the privilege to see me.
😂😂
It will be an ugly, low scoring game but I think the Hokies have the edge here. Let's get Lane rocking!
Paging Eshiben5? I've got a blackstone tailgate grill I've been waiting to break out for over a year and I need weather advice.
Rain or shine, I am bringing my smoker. I am also preparing to bring a number of canopy tents to cover the food and people.
Don't they normally do the uniform reveals on Thursdays? I haven't seen one yet.
Yeah, I don't really get the logic behind waiting so long. Even if it's a special uniform, seems like it would be better to release it early and hype it up more.
