Hello and good morning to all y'all hokie wrestling or hokie sports fans in General. Today kicks off the wrestling season for the hokies in a tournament style format and if you wanna watch its on Flowrestling (gotta have a subscription) or you follow along with my updates or floarena (which is free to use) or the hokies wrestling Twitter. So there's 2 divisions. Open and the Fresh/Sopho division. I'm gonna be following mostly the open division but if I see some of the other division scores I'll post them.

So the main team is all there except Andonian (sad face) but at 149 is Caleb Henson. Our class of 22 commit and #5 p4p HS wrestler in the country is competing in the open division so he's facing mostly people who's gonna be starting in college so that's gonna be very interesting to watch.
Should mention Hilliegas and Smith are not competing cause of minor injuries
May want to add something about wrestling to thread name.

Bolen with a 15-0 tech fall
Howard with a 20-5 tech fall and traxler with another pin
Damn. I assume this was scheduled as a patty-cake warm up, as it does not sound like we faced any competition.
Yeah really its to get the guys some matches in before Ohio state on Nov 19th
Also gives the back ups some good experience
Catka with 12-3 MD
Latona in hole mat 8 for the 125 championship
Latona loses 10-8
Thanks APrimusHokie for the updates!
Bolen gets the good vibes back with a pin
Myers with a 16-4 MD

Henson wins 6-2. Keep in mind this man still has a year in HS left and he has beating 3 wrestlers who's been in college for a couple years
Henson faces Princeton wrestler and former CBurg native Marshall Keller in the finals
Lewis up 6-0 early on mat 6
Lewis with 1st period pin
Bolen with his 3rd pin of the day

Excited to see what this kid does this winter, had some strong matches last year.

And with that match its the end of my tournament coverage. Thanks for all the people who keep up with the thread. Talk to y'all laterπ PEACEπ
Thanks for all the updates.
Yes indeed, thanks for posting this. Always good when anyone wearing VT wins. Or even if they just do their damnedist trying.
Thanks for bringing this some more attention. During COVID and starved for anything sport-like I started following wrestling and other Olympic sports. Of course I saw the NCAA Championship bouts by Mekhi but I really like our team and what Robie has done with SERTC and recruiting. Lots of promise here. It is great to have so many options to stream these sports wither live or delayed and so happy where the non-football sports are going these days. GO HOKIES!
Thanks Primus!
Great scroll! Thanks for the updates!
I know APrimus does a great job keeping us updated on our mat men but here's a reminder that we take on Ohio State tonight at 7pm Cassell. ACCNetwork Extra
I hope the fans pack the place and we kick some butt for the 3rd straight time.
I'm gonna need someone to pull a shift for me cause I'm gonna be at the match and I don't bring my phone with meπ
Unfortunate for Andonian but man is he always so much fun to watch. His matches are always active and he always pulls at least one acrobatic, opposite of what you're taught, wrestling move.
Not good. Great wrestling, close matches that aren't looking close on the score card. Down 9-4 with 5 to go.
Brady almost with a quick string takedown at the start of the 157 match. Then he follows up with a takedown. Hokies up 2-1 in the 157 match at the end of the first period. Brady is definitely going after him.
3-1 Hokies after the second period. Brady is still being the aggressor. Let's finish it in the third.
Brady held on for the win 3-2. Could've been higher scoring if he got points on two other close calls.
Brady not getting any help at 157. Two chances for points not ruled our way.
Hokies Ulrey lost 5-2 against the #10 wrestler in the nation. Mekhi Lewis up now. #4 v. #5
Mekhi Lewis with the 6-4 decision! That man should not be that quick at that size.
Hokies down 10-12 with Hunter Bolen up. Let's see if he can get bonus points in this match!
OSUs wrestler with the stall warning. Bolen keeps attacking and gets the takedown! 2-0! And then two more stall points! 4-0 plus riding time point!
Bolen wins 7-1 so unfortunately no major decision. Hokies up 13-12. 2 weight classes left.
Howard lost 3-2 in an extremely active 197 match. Hokies down 15-13. It all comes down to the final match. #14 v #7 in the heavyweight to determine the dual winner
Hokies lost 3-2 in the heavyweight match. Well wrestled by the Hokies. The deciding match was the Latona loss early on.
I think the weight cut for latona is catching up to him
How was the environment there? On the stream it seemed quieter than wrestling matches were pre-covid.
It got rowdy at some points. The ref was getting alot of heat which he deserved
Hokies with a bounce back 35-6 win over gardner Webb today btw
Thanks for staying vigilant.
This OSU match was really fun. If you have not been to a match I highly recommend it... I'm not a wrestling aficionado but scoring is pretty easy to understand. And it's free
