Women Hokies winning 46-22 at halftime over Davidson. Seems like they are going through the motions and finding their legs. Kitley struggling a bit to find her form.
Men's team plays @ 8 PM. Both games on the ACCNetworkX. LETS GO!!!!

Doing well. 2 months on Saturday. Had clear scans today which means we can begin Phase 2 hopefully Monday. Then maybe another month or so before she's able to come home.

65-44 Hokies going into the 4th Quarter. Several Hokies struggling to finish at the rim, but are lighting it up from behind the arc. Kitley with 6 blocks.

HOKIES WIN!!! 76-57. They cooled off in the second half. Kitley struggled to find her game. Sheppard shot 70% from 3. Overall a good start. The transfers got into the action and seemed to fit in well.

So I have Youtube TV in NC. Is there any way for me to watch this without subscribing to ESPN+?
Nevermind, I got it. Needed to go to the Watch ESPN site and it shows its ACCNXTRA as well as ESPN+, which is all it says on ESPN. Shady, shady, shady, trying to trick people into paying for something they don't need.

If this game is any indication of how we'll be relying on our players, Justyn Mutts is probably going to be one of the biggest indicators of HOW good we can be by the end of the year. If he can play at this level versus ACC teams it'll be a fun year.
Storm Murphy doesn't seem to be trying to force the issue on shooting yet, but seems good as a distributor so far. Alleyne made some threes and a good defensive play so far, Aluma playing good D and being a rock in the post.
Team defense looks good, although left a shooter or two open going for help defense which might not be good when we play better teams, but game seems kinda overmatched.
Would say to buy into the hype of this team IMO have the juice and doing the things that translate when bigger competition comes around. The rebounding might be an issue against teams with size like FSU but seeing good habits so far

Initial thoughts with disclaimer that (no offense) Maine isn't a powerhouse:
per usual we look superb from 3. Storm Murphy has some burst, looked to play within himself that half. Mutts, Catoor, Alleyne, Aluma all still solid. Ojiako and Nguessan looked good and did some cool stuff! Maddox got a bucket too! And we got a Pedulla sighting.
We could clean up rebounding and turnovers, once or twice we looked to get a little too fast for ourselves. Sports are fun again!

Defensive rebounding could be much better. But I know storm will get better with time... dudes got to be anxious. He finally got one and he's a better shooter than what he's shown so far.

1st half impressions
Murphy looks a little lost on defense, and dare I say a little over-matched physically against.. Maine... I expect he'll be something of a liability on defense at times and certain match-ups may expose him a bit. Thankfully Mutts, Aluma, Ojiako are showing they can clean up around the rim. Meanwhile on offense he was a bit tentative at first, and short-armed a couple shot but settled in later in the half, showed great vision passing and some nifty moves with the ball to create an open shot.
Cattoor has been solid, hasn't had to do much in this game
Alleyne has been on point, quick and decisive on offense and very active on defense fighting through screens
Mutts is off to a great start, everywhere on defense, finishing inside and out on offense
Aluma looks good, hasn't been relied upon much in this game
off the bench...
Ojiako looks great, much more lean and has an extra bounce in his step, showing some good moves in the post and solid defense
N'Guessan looks great, very active on defense, making tough layups in traffic on O
Maddox looks smooth, confident and much more in position.
offense seemed to get a little mixed up when all 3 bench players were on the court together briefly but no terrible breakdowns.
Coaches seemed upset a couple times with the defensive execution, particularly giving up offensive rebounds and not getting back in transition a couple times.

1st half was pretty good overall. Thought we got a little sloppy after the hot start, and we just started jacking up shots instead of finding good looks to keep the tempo up.
N'Guessan and Ojiako have been impressive so far, really like what N'Guessan brings to the table. Can't understate the importance of talented bigs either when it comes to post depth.
Storm Murphy just has such good handles and quickness to be able to get space for open shots like he has. Blink and he's made the defender flinch back while he shoots a wide open 3.
Cattoor is playing well on both ends, I don't know if his contributions would show up in the box score every game but he makes a difference by doing the small things. Also moves well without the ball on offense and made a good cut for a layup early.
Want to see more from Maddox and Pedulla before this game ends to get a feel for what they can bring when they're on the court

Cattoor is quietly having a great game... he just collected his first charge of the season, then did a great job fighting for position in the post against a bigger player leading to a Maine turnover

So obvi this game is in hand...tangentially related, our script. I'm becoming less and less of a fan of the Star Trek script. I think seeing football don the '99s did it for me. VT is so interesting because we have this sharp cultural and thematic clash between invent the future and history/tradition. We have to reconcile that somehow. I would love to see the '99 unis become our permanent football look and everything brand-wise follow. I just don't think the Star Trek font fits.

Man we have a tough out of conference schedule planned. Navy (up on lolvua rn), Memphis, Maryland, and St Bonneventure. We're an experienced team but man, looking forward to see how we do.

It's crazy how it seems every single player has improved some aspect of their game from last year. It's only 1 game but CMY's style really seems to give players the freedom and confidence to develop.

Basketball is such a crazy sport to. As your body matures your game can drastically get better (or worse). I was 10X the basketball player my senior year of college as opposed to my senior of high school.
I was just your run of the mill high school player and avid pick up game player as well. Imagine what D1 athletes can do.

Navy down two starters wins in hooville! Switched to a zone defense in the second half and held uva scoreless for a period of over 8 minutes late in the second half. Absolutely shot the lights out from deep. Great rebounding. Gutsy performance

I can't say to much, we constantly changed lines the entire game. Lots of bench experience for players. Mutts shocked me and Aluma was a non-factor due to foul trouble.
Big John came out of nowhere! We got the bigs involved early.

He settled in really well in the 2nd half on both ends of the court. Definitely the new guy in the rotation and it showed a bit. I'm optimistic his quickness will start showing up more on the defensive end.

Just got home to find the lady Hokies us by 24 at the half. Looking dominant, as they should. Anybody else watching?
I wasn't, but can tune in if available. What channel?
I am watching on the ESPN app through Hulu, so maybe ACCNx, like the men's to follow.

Missed the start - how are the new transfers looking?
Looking pretty good so far. Seems to be good team chemistry. Sheppard lighting it up.
Great Packer and Durham interview with Brooks on the replay for halftime. They seem to think we are a top team.
I'll be home from the NICU with dinner in hand just in time to catch Maine strain to gain on MYHokies.
Hows the baby doin?
Doing well. 2 months on Saturday. Had clear scans today which means we can begin Phase 2 hopefully Monday. Then maybe another month or so before she's able to come home.
That's great news! Still praying for you and your family.
Home for Christmas sound really good! Best wishes to your family!
Praying and best wishes for continued improvement and you get to bring her home soon.
Bout time Kitley started playing big. They are not feeding her as much as usual.
Yeah they seems to be focusing on the 3-ball rather than feeding it inside to Kitley.
Purdue transfer Traylor 3-3 from behind the arc. Not a bad start to her Hokie career.
ACC refs showing they did not use the offseason to improve. Or maybe its not an ACC crew? No consistency.
65-44 Hokies going into the 4th Quarter. Several Hokies struggling to finish at the rim, but are lighting it up from behind the arc. Kitley with 6 blocks.
Ladies have never lost a home non-con under Brooks? Wow.
Great start to the season! 76-57. Bring on the Men's game!

What a play!
Man, I miss being in Cassell.
Mutts!!
Oh gosh how did I miss this?? Lol mods please delete the other thread I made
Tech offense is looking good
Mutts in on fire!
Aluma getting all the love, but Mutts is fucking on fire

I'm way hype to see Ojiako balling out early
Ojiako looks like a completely different player......for the better, that is-
Looks great
N'Guessan looks good too. I'm feeling a different vibe from both him and Ojaiko.
Even Mutts is looking better than last year, and Maddox is looking like a contributor. I think our post game will be stronger this year.
I just like Mike Young.
I like Mike.
So you want yo be like him?
Initial thoughts with disclaimer that (no offense) Maine isn't a powerhouse:

Mike Young fits VT like a glove. Has a Beamer of basketball feel to him. Just couldn't ask for a better fit and better coach for VT.
Mike Young - "Beamer of Basketball" has a nice ring to it. I like it. Don't want to anoint him with the name too early and jinx it though.
26 points from F/C with Mutts leading the way with 9, all with at least 5.
5 points from the point
3/3 on mid-long range jumpers
oh, and 10:2 ATO margin with 9 forced TO
Oh, and 13 points off the bench

as soon as the 2nd half starts, Murphy makes a couple of great defensive plays.. let's go!
solid summary!
This great summary REAKS of balance across the team. I excite!
1st half was pretty good overall. Thought we got a little sloppy after the hot start, and we just started jacking up shots instead of finding good looks to keep the tempo up.

1. Mutts is going to be a force this season
2. It's fun feeling positive about hokie sports again
I want that "Blacksburg vs. All Y'all" shirt
Is this the same one?
Butts. For. Mutts.
That could clearly go wrong in a lot of ways.
That's the name of the official TKP tailgate this season with provided smoked pork butt. Where is your mind? /s
N'Guessan moving so much better without the ball - awesome give and go Alley oop!
So obvi this game is in hand...tangentially related, our script. I'm becoming less and less of a fan of the Star Trek script. I think seeing football don the '99s did it for me. Ohhh cmon Midies!!
Wow...the coaches weren't bullshitting about N'Guessan's growth.....
It's crazy how it seems every single player has improved some aspect of their game from last year. It's only 1 game but CMY's style really seems to give players the freedom and confidence to develop.

Navy up by a touchdown on UVA! /s
Is Navy going to be a challenge for us or is UVA just overrated?
Both? Navy hitting tons of 3s. 60% from deep with 15 mins left in the 2nd half π
Navy down two starters wins in hooville! Switched to a zone defense in the second half and held uva scoreless for a period of over 8 minutes late in the second half. Absolutely shot the lights out from deep. Great rebounding. Gutsy performance
This team is our next game on friday. Should be interesting.
Our next game is actually tonight at 7. Don't forget to love on our Lady Hokies. They are actually ranked better than the men.
Well as much hype as Murphy got I was underwhelmed he seemed to out of control at times, but made some impressive space off the dribble.
Mutts ability to effortlessly walk down the lane in traffic and score was beautiful.
Everyone looks improved.
Pedulla looks like he'll be able to help off the bench this year.
Cattoor was solid as usual.
Great game.
For somebody who self described himself as a shooter, Murphy didn't impress me. When they both were on the floor, Hunter seemed to run the point more.
Murphy looked about like I expected.
He hadn't played in front of a large crowd in over a year or in a P5 environment since December 2019.
I can't say to much, we constantly changed lines the entire game. Lots of bench experience for players. Mutts shocked me and Aluma was a non-factor due to foul trouble.
Big John came out of nowhere! We got the bigs involved early.
Mutts was the best surprise. Ojiako was a force. Aluma is going to be fine, he's going to be targeted for foul trouble frequently just has to be smart
He settled in really well in the 2nd half on both ends of the court. Definitely the new guy in the rotation and it showed a bit. I'm optimistic his quickness will start showing up more on the defensive end.
Also what I saw. Loved his energy
Imagine Boots on this team π³
