Another tough matchup tonight for the Hokies as Clemson comes to town. Unless our big men have a great game on the boards this could get ugly early. Another piece of bad news today is that Marshall Wood may be leaving the program at the end of the year, really calling into question JJs ability to work through challenges with his players. Regardless lets hope the boys get after it.

On dtv ch 693 in cfl...go hokies! I'm hopin I'm still watchin 2nd half w tiger D bein the real deal.
Blacked out where I am, sigh.
No crowd....darn....
well students arent back yet...
It still seemed there were significantly fewer people there than the other holiday break home games
Anybody have a link other than ESPN3? Not on TV in Richmond and blacked out on ESPN3.
Its on CSN MA+ in Iichmond. Im guessing that's a second comcast sportsnet channel.
Solid start. Lets hope it continues. Still too much working for the perimeter shot. 10-7 Tech do far
Decent start, good rebounding n wilson hit 2 3s
If you live in NOVA it's on 575 on FiOS. It's also on Fox Sports South.
Finally found it.
I just don't understand our offense...all perimeter...no inside/outside balance...
Tie game. 17-17.
Nice come bak, d is doin well, notice we r winnin the inside, pound the paint!
What a slam byJzV
Bad call on eddie
Defense is doing OK. Did bud foster show up @ bball practice? Eddie havin tuff game. JvZ havin good game. No other big men really, maybe the recipe will work...
Pretty nice transition there good hustle by JVZ. 31-28 Tech with about 17 left in second half
Eddie has to give it to Emelogu on that three on one. 4 point swing.
Totally agree...been a bad night for Eddie all around
Good hustle by Beyer.
Five point lead.
And just like that, it's gone.
Wilson playing well thus far.
Dumb foul by Eddie.
Refs bailing Clemson out.
That was such a weak foul called on jvz and no call on the backcourt violation on clemson gives clemson a three point lead with 1:18 to go. Really bad sequence there
Wow no foul there?
Wow refs opened the floodgates with one sided calls here
Wilson needs to spend the next three weeks at the foul line for every practice. He has missed seven free throws tonight out of nine
THIS!!! I'M SICK OF HIM MISSIN IN ACC PLAY! Sorry for yellin, damn frustrating loss!
Refs and missed free throws are too blame for this one.
our team makes it really hard for me to support them
Welp that will do it. 49-49 with a 1:40 remaining and the Hokies go frozen for the rest of the game to lose 56-49. Really bad calls down the end didnt help. Too bad to waste another opportunity like that. HATS OFF to JVZ. Best offensive performance and overall game from him tonight. Eddie was awful and Wilson has to improve drom the line
The Flying Dutchman got some solid tape for his highlight reel tonight. Dunked like a man!
4 for 14 from the charity stripe in the second half. Ouch.
THIS!!
That is just flat unacceptable. How can they miss free throws!
Game summary:

That hurts to watch........wait, the gif or hokie bball? Both.
This n Grimes leavin......a day that will live in Hokie infamy. We need some good news.
We don't have an offensive go to guy(s) down the stretch...this is gettin repetitive! Defense was really good! What is up with Eddie? JvZ was great, some bad calls by refs, no #31, poor free throws........................we loose 3 @ home. No Raines, little Barksdale. Inside game kept us in game early, then our offensive approach seemed to change. Darn!!
:(
If this is the message that JJ wants to send to recruits, that he is not willing to forgive a player and move on and would rather lose just to prove a point, I don't think they are going to want to play for him and he may not get that 3rd year that everyone expects him to get.
Devin had a decent game and so did JVZ, but Smith took too many ludacris threes and not having Marshall or Raines is hurting the rotation down the stretch. Eventually these young guys are going to hit a wall every game and they end up playing not to lose rather than playing to win. Good contributions from Beyer, but he isn't going to do that every game.
If JJ wants to win another ACC contest, he is going to need to let whatever it is going with him and Raines/Wood and just let the kids play.
I'll start off by saying I do not care for basketball in the least bit, but I went to the game to support my Hokies. And while it was like watching a mediocre high school basketball team, and the refs missed so many calls, one other thing stuck out to me. the fan support. I know it wasn't an entertaining game to watch and with a minute something left we weren't gonna win, but geez, stay the extra 10min to at least see the game to the end. No wonder our guys seem to hit a wall and stop playing, the fans (really they shouldn't be called fans, maybe spectators) leave before the game is even over. It was just disappointing to say the least.
Than again, I might have been spoiled considering my first BB game as a student was the OT thriller in 2007 against MD during an ice storm.
I think attendance would be much better if Tech lowered season ticket prices for alumni, or at least they would sell more tickets.
They need to do something creative...whether its lowering prices, instituting a tiered ticket system, or offering additional benefits as part of the season ticket packages, things like meet and greets with the players, a chance to watch a practice, a tour of the basketball facility, or other such things that make the season tickets more attractive.
I agree. I am an alumni who is busy doing other things and I like basketball but I need at least two tickets (wife and I). I am not going to pay $1000 for our bad program, especially when they schedule games mid week during working hours when I wouldn't be able to go anyway.
The ice storm game vs Maryland is how Cassell should be rock'n. One of my favorites
Awesome! That was how nearly every home game back from 1979 to 1985 was. I mean Every. Home. Game. Cassell rocked for every opponent. We were a basketball school back then. Cassell was feared by opposing teams. There is no reason we could not be both a B-ball & Football school. I remember some incredible games - and waiting in lines in front of Cassell in tents for as much as 3 days to get tickets (rotated with friends and fraternity brothers). It was 1st come for best seats then. And students had the entire North side! And we filled it!! Some of the games:
1. Beating Louisville in 3OTs on National TV
2. Beating the #1 ranked Memphis State University Tigers by 20 points!
3. Watching Dell Curry drop amazing after amazing shot (before there were 3s)!
4. Winning the Metro Conference in our 1st year when we weren't permitted to go the Metro Tournament!
If you want to generate revenue, then we need an agreement that fans, alumni, and students will come and the administration will hire quality coaching talent for their side of the bargain.
If we don't get back to this atmosphere in Cassell, we will not improve our B-ball relevancy.
that was one of my last games as a student, place was rocking for sure. my buddies and I had student season tickets in the second row on the sideline across form the visitor bench....made for an awesome season for us
1. Free throws - 4 for 14 is just flat out unacceptable.
2. Not blaming the refs, but they certainly didn't help there in the last 2 minutes
3. We seem to be incapable of finishing a game strong
4. Free Cadarian Raines! JJ is doing a huge disservice to the team keeping him on the bench.
5. Too many 3 attempts, work the ball inside more
I don't understand how any team can hit less than 60% free throws in a game, and 60% is BAD!!! They should spend the next practice hour shooting nothing but free throws. That was 6-8 points missed with a better percentage, guess what that was the score difference.
Well 6 of the 10 misses were all by one player. Devin Wilson went 2 for 8 from the free throw line. Considering he is our one guard that consistently drives the lane and draws fouls, he needs to spend days at the free throw line going forward. He is shooting 61.3% on the season from the line.
JvZ can also spend some time with Wilson at the line as he went 1 for 4. He is shooting 35.9% on the season so far from the line. Emelogu went 1 for 2 but is shooting 75% for the season
I agree, I saw that number an winced. Erick Green he is not.
