After the things his mom put out on social media lately, I'm not sure this is surprising. Even if he wasn't going pro, I'm not sure I got vibes he was coming back.
Does he mean his last game and it's in Lane stadium or his last game in Lane Stadium?
senior day is this weekend, tre is likely graduating with his degree after 4 years of classes, its our last home game of the season (then we have @Miami and @lolUVA)
sounds like he won't be back next year, this is his last game played in Lane
Last game he will play in Lane wearing a VT uniform.
We play UNC on the road next year I thought? I'm just looking forward to shutting him down when we play him next year. Dudes definitely not going pro, he couldn't even make a scout team.
Pro potential, bad coaches
Bad coaches or not, he's a great kid, just don't see him making it as a pro receiver, and if he goes pro after this season versus transferring he has even less of a shot.
Pro potential is not the same as pro. Lots of guys have pro potential.
Maybe he wasn't developed, but some point, the mirror is part of that story.
Going into the season I expected this. After the recent twitter comments, I figured it was a done deal. Tre stuck around when many others bolted and without him, the offense might have been even worse. Good luck with your future, Big Play Tre! I hope it includes years of success in the NFL.
I'm just curious if he grad transfers or takes his shot at the pros. I wish him the best of luck wherever he ends up.
My guess is he will put his name in the NFL Draft advisory committee and it will depend upon the result.
If he gets a late-round or worse report, he probably transfers and suits up for a team with on O.C. who has an actual clue how the forward passing game works.
There's not many players in VT history who I think "he under achieved, and it was the coaches' fault" - usually it's injuries, or off the field issues. Sucks to see him go out like this.
Based on his success post-VT, maybe put Trey Edmunds in that category?
I always thought VT coaches gave up on him way too early.
So did VT fans...
thought he had a lot of injury issues? I guess Dragon also kind of took over the starting RB spot after a 1000 yard freshmen season
Well, he made the NFL as a special teamer, but he really didn't have any more success at Maryland after leaving us. For that matter, same could be said for a guy like Chuck Clark, who has found much more success in the NFL than he had here. That being said, I think much of Chuck's success in the NFL was a result of him being here and learning defense under Bud, on top of the fact that Chuck is a smart guy.
My memory of Chuck Clark's time at VT was different? I felt like he was a dependable multi-year starter and leader? His late round draft status I thought was about right for how he performed here. Trey Edmunds on the other hand had a very unremarkable career with us. I wouldn't have guessed he would become an NFL starter.
Are you getting the Edmundii brothers confused? Trey isn't an NFL starter but Terrell is.
No I did mean Trey, although after looking it up it seems I did get confused. I thought he was playing in Arizona for some reason. He's not a starter but he's at least managed to stick around in the NFL which in itself is more than his time at VT would indicate.
Terrell I remember being surprised he was drafted so high, but I wouldn't quality him as someone who was let down by the coaching staff. If anything his draft status is proof that he got plenty of opportunity to showcase himself.
I've said it before and I'll say it again and again
TREY EDMUNDS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A LINEBACKER
Best of luck to the guy. He stuck around through all of *gestures around wildly* this!
Watch him transfer to Miami so he'll play in Lane again next year.
Somehow I don't think he's the type of player to go Trevon Hill on us.
Really liked him as a player though he didn't seem to develop much over his career. I blame the coaches. If I were him, I'd transfer and see if I can grow before getting drafted in the 6th round.
Thanks TT11, best of luck!
I figured this might be his last year regardless. Much like Dax (who already announced he is coming back), he has been a fully participating (non-redshirt) player in four seasons for VT when this season finishes. The only reason either of them have eligibility left is because of the COVID year.
Hope he balls out the rest of the year.
OT but I only learned that was Jeter's nephew a few weeks ago
Well, I only learned it a few seconds ago after reading this. So...
Hey me too.

Heard he's switching to volleyball
Get outta here with that horseshitπ
I went to see my cousin play a volleyball game in Richmond a few weeks back and holy shit, those kids are badass. They have some serious ups and athletic talent. Apparently one of the best teams in the country. Brain farting the name of the high school...
HS or College?
HS. Apparently all of the varsity guys play on travel teams. Think it was Glen Allen HS. I get confused because my cousin works for the school system and has been at all of them. I can't keep em straight
The VT club team has been historically good combining some of the best HS talent out of Richmond and VA Beach. Finished pretty highly in nationals every year I was there.
Sauce: played in HS and club at VT. There's actually a semi-pro league that's got a lot of wind in its sails based out of Richmond right now. But for high school youre good Richmond teams are Deep Run, Cosby, Godwin unless that's shifted since I've lived there.
I hope he joins Wiggins down in Alabama if he doesn't go pro.
That's comical ππ
Idk what you have against Tre personally but no need to drag him in multiple comments here. He's been one of the few bright spots on the team in the last few years and there's plenty of people sorry to see him leave and who just want him to do well after Tech
Telling the truth isn't having something against someone. I'm sure once he's suiting up against us next year a lot of y'all will change tune too, but either way, it's absolutely comical to think Alabama would want Tre, nothing against him, that ain't happening
He stuck with VT longer than a lot of others. No need to trash a fellow Hokie. If you think he's not that good a receiver, fine, but he's the best we've got and him leaving doesn't make us a better team. Maybe you're just trolling or maybe you're genuinely surprised to see people sticking up for Tre on here. If the latter, try finding a way to make your point without denigrating a player.
There's a lot of hot takes in here from people that have never thought about Tre or others previously, but after a mom posts a frustrated tweet, they want to drag a player and say it's his fault. Let the kid make his decision, wish him well, and thank him for his time put in in a Hokie uniform.
I'd guess Tennessee.
I wondered the same thing.
But you wonder if Hooker's stock is about as high as it's going to get right now, so he may not be there next year.
That's a solid point. And Hooker's stock might not be higher given this year's quarterback class.
I have to think that he has enough on tape to get a decent draft grade, but I don't know much about how that works.
Best of luck Tre, Hokie Nation will be forever grateful.
I see him transferring, not enough of a body of work in this offense for a Pro-Tape but stranger things have happened
I don't blame him... Had a decent career but could have been great if we had an competent HC/OC.
Yep. It would be damned hard to have the talent, see Hooker balling out at UT, and not want to bolt.
And if he put on some muscle to his frame. Yes, Corny and our offense suck ass but he didn't do himself any favors. But best of luck to him in the pros/ at UTenn with HH/ wherever life takes him.
Along with better quarterbacks, although the quarterbacks would have been better with better coaching, so I get it.
I'd transfer to a pass-happy, well-coached program to get his draft stock up. But who knows, he could nail it at the Combine to also get his draft stock up, without risking injury during an additional year of college ball. Hard to say what would be the better option, but with a decent Combine showing, I could see him being a mid-round pick.
Good on him, best of luck wherever he ends up next. Hopefully with a strong armed qb and oc that utilizes his talents
I hope he reconsiders after seeing who the new staff is.
I don't think he's going to the league next year, the smart money is to transfer where he can get in a quality strength and conditioning program and an offense that can showcase his skills.
Big knock is that he's still the same size as he was his freshman year...but I'm of the mind that Hilgart hasn't shown he can't develop players properly. Also, the wide receivers haven't developed at all since Wiggins left. So hopefully Tre goes somewhere where he can be developed and utilized, much like Hooker was.
Side note: Fuente is leaving the cupboard ALOT emptier than when he inherited the program. Next year is going to be rough no matter who the head whistle is...ugh.
He's accepted an invite to the Senior Bowl.
Haha shows what I know
Tre gonna be catching TDs in Creamsicle orange from Hendon next year
Ooof. It sucks enough to have one UT player that I am wishing good things for, having two will be painful.
If Hooker comes back for 1 more year, it would not surprise me at all. Tennessee has 3 football games remaining Hooker already has 339 more yards passing and 8 more TD tosses than he did in any season at VT.
Hooker is playing his way up the draft board right now. They way the League over reaches for QBs wouldn't surprise me to see him project 2nd-3rd round at EOY.
Wildly weak QB class too I mean Pickett has taken the #1 spot and while he's certainly got talent and experience he's not a world beater by any means.
To Tre:
Best of luck with whatever comes next.
If I'm him, I'd try and be a graduate transfer to some place warm and different, something like a Pac 10 school.
My guess is he tests the NFL waters and an extra year of college is a secondary option if he doesn't feel he has a fair shake at the NFL yet.
If he can bulk up like Isaiah Ford did before the combine it would probably help his draft stock.
As an optimist, I'll focus on "play" rather than "last".
If you know the tailgate, you'd try to get back to a few games a year as well. She's good people.
You know, thinking about how much of a shame it is that Tre's talents were seemingly so badly misused in our offense, I got looking back to one of our previous WR greats, Eddie Royal. The numbers surprised me.
Tre Turner (VT career, 2 games left)
Receiving - 129 catches, 2248 yds, 13 TDs
Rushing - 53 carries, 456 yards, 4 TDs
Eddie Royal (VT career)
Receiving - 119 catches, 1778 yards, 12 TDs
Rushing- 24 carries, 226 yards, 2 TDs
We definitely underutilized all of those WR's from that era. Eddie Royal, Josh Morgan, David Clowney, and Justin Harper were all NFL talents who stuck around for varying amounts of time in the NFL. None of them had particularly impressive numbers at VT.
Loved that group of receivers. They were tough!
I'll never get over not having Marcus Vick in 2006, with that defense and some of the weapons we had on offense. What could have been!?!?!?!
2006 is one of the greatest what-ifs... Vick just had to step on Dumvervil's calf like a moron.
Oh, he was a moron for so, so many other things too.
A lot of knee jerk reactions, but Tre has been solid.
I think the perception is that Tre was so good as true freshman that he should be even better now. But he didn't really develop into a significantly better player, at least when it comes to stats and size. He was still a good/great WR his whole career
i don't know what next year holds for tre, but one thing discussed on here fairly frequently is alumni relations. a lot of guys that transferred wouldn't exactly receive a warm welcome when coming back to VT. but i think tre always will be welcomed back on the sidelines. he represented us well.
Maybe he'll transfer to VT.
I think QP would be welcome with open arms. I personally loved HH, maybe other people feel differently.
A lot of the other guys...yeah not so much.
Tre wearing the #25 this week! Let's Go Big Play Tre!
What special teams unit does he play on?
Going to miss him big time. But I think he will get PAID.
Tre confirms that he will be going the NFL route instead of a grad transfer.
Also this reply from James Mitchell makes it sound like he will be staying in Blacksburg.
Worried about him. He was not properly developed after Wiggins left and the strength and conditioning staff has failed him big time. Really hope he gets an honest evaluation and considers coming back for a year
I really hope he does what's best for him and his family. After 4 years he doesn't owe VT anything and would be most likely gone without a "covid year" anyway. However he should always be revered as a VT great regardless βπ¦
