Hello Hokie Nation!
I woke up in Blacksburg this morning to a gorgeous fall day. Why am I back in Blacksburg on a Tuesday you ask? BECAUSE VIRGINIA TECH BASKETBALL TIPS OFF TODAY!!
I'm no Brian Marcolini who can effortlessly crank out a few thousand words on the strengths and weaknesses of our team. I'm no Rob Peterson who can break down opposing teams and what to look for on a game by game basis like an entire scouting department can. But I can hype some people up so LET'S GOOOO HOOOOKIES.

LET'S START GETTING HYPE! It's time to talk hoops! What are you looking forward for this upcoming basketball season? Are you planning on going to any games? What's your favorite Virginia Tech basketball memory? What would you do if Virginia Tech did the unthinkable and brought home a natty in both mens and women's basketball this year?
Or the best question: AFTER THE MISERY OF THE LAST COUPLE MONTHS OF WHAT FOOTBALL HAS DONE TO US, WHY SHOULD I CARE ABOUT VIRGINIA TECH BASKETBALL? Let's do a thought experiment. Visualize the state of Virginia and think of the national championship being in Washington DC. The men's basketball team is probably around Manassas and to be honest the women's basketball team is probably around Arlington. The football program is currently stuck in Hurley, trying to find out the best way to get out of Guesses Fork without ending up in Kentucky. That was probably a terrible metaphor but what I'm trying to say is that our men's and women's hoop squads are much, much closer to winning a natty then I think people realize and our football program is pretty far away from doing the same at the moment. So if you want to see a group of Hokies lifting a national championship trophy, basketball has a good shot at it.

While we're on the topic: if you have been keeping up with football over there last couple years, you probably realize that there is a clear difference between Those That Have and Those That Don't. Those that have the resources and image and bandwidth and perception always seem to find a way into the playoffs overshadowing those that don't. In basketball it's a little different. Most people think that Gonzaga (not Kentucky) was the most talented squad a year ago and Baylor (not Duke or UNC) actually won the national championship. No offense to Gonzaga or Baylor, I'm just saying that while the road to success is certainly easier if you are and established Blue blood in basketball, it's not required.
ONE LAST THOUGHT: There is still plenty of room on the hoops hype train! While I am decidedly basketball first and all other sports after, I was not always that way. Like most VT basketball fans I know many of us came here from football and that's okay. I didn't play hoops in high school so I had a lot to learn. So if you're curious about VT basketball and want to jump on the hype train with us, we can absolutely reserve you a seat on this journey even if you know nothing about the sport. There's no dumb questions here. Do you want to know something simple like the difference between a foul and a charge? That's a great question because honestly ACC refs don't really know the answer either.
So strap in my friends and LETS GOOOOOOO

BTW saw Kabongo on campus this week.... still a Hokie, still a student
HOKIESSSSSSSSSS!
HOORAY FOR POSITIVE DISTRACTIONS!!!!!
Used to be a distraction...now it is the main event. Been counting the days! Now, here is to hoping I haven't totally dropped the ball on my tv subscription streaming options and ACCNX/ESPN+ doesn't oddly blackout the game tonight. I've stopped trying to understand and solve this riddle, and have resorted to prayer each gameday.
Like Jaboo in Major League, sometimes it best just to commune with the sports gods and hope for the best.
Jobu
"Are you trying to say Jesus Christ can't hit a curve ball!?!?!?!"
Best line in the movie IMHO
I'll be there tonight with my wife and some friends, ready to bring the NOISE!!!
ITS MIKE YOUNG SZN
CHOO CHOO BABY CHOO CHOO
BEARDS
Over/under 5 games for the men's hoops before they surpass the football teams win total? ;)
Yes
The football team should at least have a decent shot against Duke.... right?
Please?
Basketball team might have a better shot at Duke
God that was great.
Thanks for the memory.
As always and forever, this is one of my all time favorite gif's.
Logged in for the first time in years to say "Let's F'n Go!" My hoops hype is off the charts and I can't wait to be back in Cassell tonight and many more this season. It's gonna be a party, don't miss out!
We playing in Australia?
Whenever that storming opposing twitter with pictures of (I think it was Nolley first) players started I always flipped mine upside down just for extra laughs
While I am not an X's and O's basketball expert, I have really enjoyed the Mike Young era of VT basketball, in large part because there is so much similarity to the Emory & Henry teams of the late 80s/early 90s that I used to go watch. I am really excited to see what Storm Murphy adds to the team. The weakness last year was the lack of guards who had the ability to finish at the rim. If Murphy or the young additions can drive and either finish or dish with equal ability, it will help mightily with the offensive lulls that hit late last season.
Alright, way to get this hype thread going Danny Coale Is My Animal Spirit! I want to see the horse head cheering from the stands!
Appreciate the hype thread, Danny. Been waiting for CMYBall season for a while! Anyone know if the game is televised? LET'S GO!!!
ACCNX
So that means also on ESPN+, right?
If you have ESPN+ you should have access to it is my understanding
That's not how it worked in years past, since ACCN/ACCNX is a separate subscription only available through your TV provider, but they may have changed it this year.
It's listed as ACCNX and ESPN+ on Watch ESPN, which happened for one of the football games this year. It seems like for some of the lesser games they're having them on both. Noticed Florida's basketball game is the same way with the SEC Network+.
I'm gonna need some help here too, I have FIOS in the DC area and don't think I get it, which is massively disappointing.
You'll get it on ESPN3/+ if you just log into your service provider on watch espn. From there I usually just cast it to my TV
Cheers to you sir.

No luck yet.
Ncaabballstreams, the holy grail
I'm going to the game at Maryland Dec 1 for my birthday. It'll be my first game since the Sweet Sixteen game.
God Daaaaaaaaaaaaaamnnnnnnn this is a sweet burn!
Considered me HYPED!
Let's Go Hokies!
You just have to learn the ACC system for reffing to get the call right.
Does it call attention to Teddy Valentine? It's a foul.
Do the refs have somewhere to be? Not a foul.
Is it against a school from NC - probably not a foul - better make sure
Is it against a former Big East school? probably a foul - just call it to be sure.
Is it a bad enough call to get the quite crowd riled up and back into a blow-out game? Go for it.
Will it make coach Kajsrhiuaogbsky look bad on his victory lap? Not a foul.
Did the player driving make a load grunting sound when he shot the ball? Had to be a foul.
Edit for spelling.
I don't know about everybody else, but MY and Hokie Basketball gets my hype because they aren't afraid to make big move (I.e. hiring Mike Jones) and they are fun to watch!
Getting the popcorn ready.

I love you, you nerd.

STORM Hype Vid...
Watching him aggressively split those hard hedges and create havoc I Can't help but think he will shred the UVa pack line.

Having a dude at the point who can create their own shot, or at the very least cut to the rim and get fouled and go to the line, when everyone else is in a shooting slump is going to be a very important thing this year.
That second highlight...

I am more pumped for this season of roundball than I have for any other season in the past decade and a half! Things I am looking forward to seeing tonight in order of interest:
1) Impact of Storm Murphy - We have not seen a Mike Young team with an offensive impact player at the most important position on the court. Justin Robinson was so much fun to watch in Maroon & Orange. Storm has the energy, aggressiveness, and leadership that I've been missing since Justin Robinson left, and he already knows the offense. This could be fun. Absolutely perfect fit on paper.
2) David N'guessan's development/confidence - We need a strong player off the bench to become a great team. Or maybe he will start and someone else comes off the bench?
3) Justyn Mutts' development and use- you can't convince me anyone improved more over the course of last season. With the loss of Radford, does he become a slasher and a serious 3 point threat? Serious potential to become a dynamic scorer.
I AM HYPE!!!!
Going to miss the start of the 5 pm game due to work. But I will still be there when the 8 pm game starts.
That said, I hope they don't run too many of these doubleheaders.
I'm hype! Just wish I could watch the first game :(
The boys picking right up where we left off. I feel very good about this season.
Hot start so far. I like what I see. This team has some athletes.
Wheres the game thread? Wheres the game thread?
Good to see Bamisile seems to have landed in a good spot.
