Whit did it, now donate to the Hokie Club

Whether it was a negotiated buyout or not, Whit just committed a *lot* of money to get rid of Justin Fuente.

Plenty of people said they wouldn't give VT another dime until Fuente was out. Well, time to put your money where your mouth is.

USA Today took their database behind a paywall (we're 38th according to this article) but we know VT had to go through layoffs and pay cuts due to COVID.

Fuente is gone and Whit needs money for the next guy:

It won't be much, but I am making a donation today.

Donate $25 for Frank Beamer!

Hokies United l Ut Prosim

Donated as soon as I saw the news. Hope many other Hokies do the same!

$25 from me, posted 8:35am

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

I know I had a monthly donation setup, but I could not find the info anywhere in the Hokie Club site. I am going to up my monthly donation if I can figure out where to find it

Football matters to me, and I supported a change vocally. They listened, so I supported financially. Not a lot, but if everyone does a little it will give Whit the confidence to promise our new hires what they need to succeed. If you care, this is a great time to show it.

Done!

Onward and upward

Just donated $25! Took a while as I had to jump through all the hoops to get my account linked/activated. Should have donated another $25 earmarked to get a better online system. As an example, when clicking on "Change Payment Method" (was hoping for PayPal), it pops up with a dialog with nothing in it. So I was forced to use a CC. Oh well...I am happy for the future of Hokies Football!

Site was a little buggy today, could be a lot of traffic!

Hokies United l Ut Prosim

could be a lot of traffic!

Let's hope so! I'm hoping today is a record-setting giving day that is not prompted by a donation campaign. Would be amazing if 25,000 donations of $25 came in!

That would be $625K. Or 3 months of the four year buyout, for perspective.

Isn't this a dirty word now?

Onward and upward

that 625K would be very nice to direct towards recruiting staff!

$25 donated, not much, but have to support some way

not much

But you have to think of it as: a whole lot of "not much" donations ends up becoming one large donation. Every little bit helps when everyone contributes!

Donated $25 for Frank!

Donated $875 in honor of the $8.75M it took to finally make the move

I wasn't that aggressive but I threw a multiple of 25 in to the pot.

Waited in the virtual waiting room to make my contribution.

LET'S GO!

Put my $25 in the offering plate

We'll be doing a 110% donation this year.

I'm in.

These pretzels are making me thirsty.

Did my part.

Kicked in $25

Just donated a Benjamin during my lunch break to the Football Enhancement Fund.

Doubled my 2022 donation this morning which should be a bit more than 110% of my 2021 donation.

I dug around the website a little more and they have added some cool stuff there. It is lighthearted light years better than the Hokie club site of 5 years ago. If you haven't had a chance I would review the dashboard feature they added.

"lighthearted better"?

Put $50 to football, and figured 'WTF' and added $25 to basketball and $25 to softball (the latter due to the nice handwritten note of thanks for the last donation). Go Hokies!

In for $25.00 today. Let's get this ball rolling.

Donated a U. Grant this morning.

Did plenty of griping over the last year, so I gladly put my money where my mouth is yesterday

Gave $25 yesterday. Assuming my Christmas bonus isn't a subscription to the Jelly of The Month club I will try to make another donation later.

Dropped my first ever C-Note to the athletic department.

Old sigline: I've been cutting back on the drinking.

New Sigline: lol it's football season.

So where are our billionaire donors at? MSU just had two of them put up the cash to make Mel Tucker the 2nd highest paid coach in college football.

Well he did continue the ongoing trend of making Harbaugh look like an idiot. That is worth at least a million a year right? Harbaugh is what 1 for everything against MSU and anOSU.

Yeah this has to be top of the "questionable investments" strategy he hasn't really proven anything yet?

(add if applicable) /s

He has proven that he can take Wake's former RB and make him a star.

I mean he's made a good team out of a bunch of transfers but they're paying him 9.5M a year and he's been the HC for less games than Saban has ever lost.

He's paid just under a 256-66-1 Saban at 16-13. Terrible gamble - even if he pans out he'll have been over paid for years. Props to his agent.

If there's anything we've learned, it's that throwing a ton of money at a coach after success early in their career can in no way backfire

To quote the Brothers Osborne: "I'm Good For Some But I'm Not For Everyone"

I don't think we have any.

I've genuinely always wondered this. It seems like we pump out a lot of upper 5/lower 6-figure engineers and what not (which is obviously a great living; I'm not suggesting otherwise). But has anyone gone on to make 7-9 figures? Do they donate to the football program? I have no idea how to look that up.

A quick Google search suggests that Bashar Masri may be our wealthiest alumni -- not sure how frequently he checks in on VT Football from Palestine, however.

Mehul and Hema Sanghani, they gave $7.4M

He's the CEO of Octo, which is a consulting firm.

Clearly has money! But not in the billionaire stratosphere.

Eric Schmidt from Google grew up in Blacksburg. His dad was a VT econ professor for a period of time. I don't think he's motivated to give money to a CFB program though.

$25 now and $25 more if we don't hire Clawson

A quick look at the comments showed quite a few of us have made donations today toward the football program and I'm sure it's appreciated by our program.

Might I suggest joining TKP and supporting Joe for all of the good work he and TKP's contributors do. We get a lot of good information from him and he's committed to us just as we're committed to Tech.

Donated $100 to the football program and $50 to the Monogram Club.

Since Carilion and Virginia Tech are so closely related; my $3 million+ donation will probably process in a month or two once Anthem gets their stuff straight.

"Nooooooooooo!"

"James Franklin to Virginia Tech...."
~Fuck me......*sigh*
"Oh my God.... They're gonna take all our recruits... like WTF bro...."

Month or two? We just got our money credited back from Anthem for my wife's cancer treatments in June of 2019 earlier this month.

Said in 2020 I wouldn't go to a game or give a donation until Fuente was gone. Put up or shut up lol

Pic doesn't work, $200.
